The hens are laying again! We are now getting about seven eggs a day.
On Friday, I got to sit on the porch for the first time in ages. I sat with a blanket over my lap, ate homemade chicken soup, and looked at the latest inspiring issue of Mary Jane’s Farm magazine.
On Saturday morning, Rich and I took the children out for breakfast. After our meal, I went to the antique store and found three treasures to bring home with me.
First, a beautiful figurine of an older lady. She reminds Grace and me of Tasha Tudor.
Then, I found a hand-held egg mixer and a pretty pot holder.
The best part of the weekend was Saturday afternoon, when it was warm enough to spend some time outside.
I took my coffee in hand and checked on the flower beds. Things are coming up nicely.

The chickens gathered around me, curious as always.
This one is drinking water out of a puddle.
Several of the hens took a peek into my coffee, and one of them actually took a sip! Never thought I would share my coffee with a chicken……

Seth very much enjoyed the freedom to run and play outside. We went down to look at the water.
Jacob was with us, too.
So was Caleb, who wanted to show me “Caleb’s Island”…..a small clump of land next to the stream.
It was a joy to watch Seth play and explore.

Oh, Seth looks like such a brave, boyish explorer in that last photo! Off to conquer the world in rubber boots I keep thinking I need a pair of Wellingtons for going on springtime walks with the littles. If we lived in the country, I KNOW I’d have to have a pair!

So happy that spring has sprung and I feel so refreshed and excited about my gardens and I love jsut being able to breath fresh air slowly!! Mmmm… I LOVE this post! It was so warm and sunny here this weekend! Now that I am married and have moved to an apartment, I am really missing my gardens at my parents house, but thankfully there is a river and walking/hiking trails from our new home, so that is nice!Oh, and can I just say that I always love the piano music you have on your ?! Lovely.

I noticed that I had some daffodils poking up through the sod this morning — still have some snow but yeah! for spring! Love your pictures — maybe I’ll put my tall boots on and take a walk this afternoon.

I will enjoy your Spring until we get ours! Usually in May it starts to be nicer. Most of March is rain and fog. Today the fog stayed on the ground all day, so everything was gray and drippy. I wonder what your chicken thought of the coffee!
How nice to see the bits of green popping up. We still have far too much snow on the ground to enjoy that view.
I love sharing the seasons with you. Even here, where it is warm, my white narcissus are just putting up their heads. Funny that they bloom after the freesias. I have a little old man figurine that would make a companion to your woman. I will have to take a picture of him. My mom gave him to me. Fun to see the chickens getting out, a handful of eggs, and your explorers. Caleb’s Island sounds just right. Seth is so cute in his big boots.

This is a first…seeing a chicken drink coffee! How funny!! The face of the lady figurine is so sweet looking, she does look like Tasha Tudor. She kinda looks like the older lady in the Fox and the Hound movie.
hard to believe you’ve still got snow! I’m sure you’ll be glad for it to go and I’m loving spring time too! Went for a run this evening with a friend and it was so beautiful outside.

@inanorchard – Aren’t they beautiful??? I love those eggs…they are laid by “Easter Egg chickens”. This is the 2nd year we’ve kept chickens and it’s been so fun!
It’s wonderful that your snow is finally going away and that y’all can get outside and enjoy some sunshine! Sunshine just makes EVERYTHING better, doesn’t it? As I was waiting for my farmboy to come in for lunch a while ago, I stood in the kitchen window and just let the sun warm my back. A simple pleasure! And chickens needs the sunshine as much as we humans do! They definitely lay better when it is warm (but before it gets too hot, which they also dislike!) Don’t you smile to see them tip their heads back to swallow?? I love it. Your children must LOVE that stream. Kids and water…they go together so well. Just gotta keep your little Sethie away from it for now…
It will be so so so nice to have them outdoors again and for all of you to feel the sun again! Soon they will be swimming in the pond again and all the snow will be just a memory! I would not have been as generous with my coffee! LOL!
