look who found her feet

Here she is…little Sarah Joy, five months old now.  She’s on her big girl bed, all made up in new sheets (I love: shabby chic, Target).  Of course for now, she sleeps in her baby bed, but it’s nice to also have a big bed in her room for Mama to use in the middle of the night.  Alas, she is still waking up at night (this morning I am QUITE tired).  She started eating cereal last week, but so far I’m not sure if anything is going down, it seems like every mouthful gets spit back out.  And I mean she actually SPITS with force and a little spit sound.  It’s pretty unusual and Rich says he would never have the patience for such things.

Her big brothers pick her up and hold her.  They bring her toys to play with.  Seth gives her kisses (he learned to do that from Mommy) and pushes her in her swing wildly (which he did not learn from Mommy)…Sarah laughs and laughs at him.

Grace holds her the most.  This morning she got her dressed for the day.  Sometimes Grace takes her into her room and gives her little girlie toys to touch and play with.

She truly is a precious joy!

Happy first day of November.  Ethan found ice outside today for the first time.  “ICE”, we cried, “IT’s ALMOST WINTER!”  The little boys want snow more than anything, but the ice was a step in the right direction.

Grace’s birthday is the 4th and she is busy making a list because I have no idea what to give her.  Any ideas?  I don’t want to get her toys or clothes (she has plenty of those).

A couple quotes:

“If God has touched us with his mercy, thereby infallibly securing our salvation, then we must thank him with grateful hearts…..”  ~James Montgomery Boise, The Doctrines of Grace

“by the grace of God I am what I am….” (I Corinthians 15:10)

Creation, life, salvation too,

And all things else both good and true,

Come from and through our God always,

And fill our hearts with grateful praise.

Come, lift your voice to heaven’s high throne,

And glory give to God alone!  ~J.M. Boise

  1. Sarah just looks like the happiest baby … and no wonder, with six adoring older siblings. You must love thinking about the relationship that will grow between her and Grace as they get older, with Grace being enough older to be mentor as well as friend, and Sarah always looking up to her big sister. So sweet!Birthday presents … books? (Those were always my favorite.) Sewing or knitting supplies, if she enjoys those sort of activities? A special day, just her and you, going somewhere she picks out on your own?My Joy’s birthday is on the 5th, but she’s a bit easier, as she’s only turning three. Duplos and her first pair of ice skates!

  2. What an adorable baby girl, truly precious! My boy will be 4 months the 16th & he is getting so active and alert. He is doing better about sleeping, he only wakes once now. I’m with you, I love the shabby chic 🙂

  3. Juls has the same pattern in Ally’s bedroom it is so  soft and feminine!I LOVE it when babies find their feet!Is Gee still into American Girl Doll, did you get the big fat catalog they just sent out?  Chloe already has the whole thing dog eared. It will be interesting to see what Gee puts on her list!

  4. 5 months old! Wow, where does time go. 🙂 What a joy indeed. {{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}Hmmm Graces birthday. How about a kit gift. Like a basket/box filled with drawing/journaling/writing… stuff; pretty papers, pens, pencils, felts,stamps, stencils, stickers, envelopes, glue, tape, whatever. A kit filled with things she loves to so. Sew, knit, photography, read, you know a kit filled with her personality! I know you are creative and could put together a beautiful kit for her. 🙂 Can’t wait to see what she ends up getting. I love birthdays!Have a wonderful day! {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}

  5. What about a sewing machine for Grace?  Rachel really enjoys hers.  Sarah is so cute!  I love watching babies play with their feet.  Do you have music today?  Our piano teacher is gone this week, so we have a break from lessons today.  Plenty of other things on the agenda though!  Hope you have a great day.  You can tell your boys we have snow on the ground now.  Jacob got to shovel the front walk at church yesterday.  He did a great job and was so proud of himself!

  6. What a cute little flower she is holding her feet! We have this big turn of the century baby doll that she looks so much like, all round and adorable. I like the pretty rose bedding you picked! My Nicky was up at night for a long time. Some babies are just that way, aren’t they?! I liked hearing how the children interact with her. I agree on the ideas of books, crafts, sewing, art …that sort of thing for Grace. Do you have an art store in town? They often have wonderful things like beeswax candle making kits, special papers, etc. Maybe something to keep her special things in so that little hands do not get into them! Have you ever bought things from the Hearthsong catalog. Might be good for a peak for Christmas. They have all sorts of toys, crafts, etc. that are not your general toystore things. I think it is just Hearthsong.com

  7. So cute!!!  Baby is getting big. I love that line from Target too, that is what I have in my girls room. It’s so pretty and feminine! My boys are longing, longing, longing for cold.  They are definitely winter boys! We had a great big frost, they were excited. For Grace, I know you guys like to cook and bake, how about a new cookbook, and apron special for her?   I do like Hearthsong too. They have a lot for all ages.Happy Monday to you! =)

  8. She loves books.I have loved a certain series since I was her age.the Mandie Series by Lois Gladys Leppardthey are young adult Christian fiction….set in the 1900s…and they are also mystery stories…I have the first 30 (of 40) books. They hold good life lessons, and they talk about how good God is and how He provides for you.I know Grace would like them…

  9. For Grace…I think crafting of some sort? I’m thinking of setting up a canvas kit for my oldest for Christmas. Some of that plastic canvas, yarn, the needles, safety scissors. Or…is there something she wants to learn that you could do lessons for her? Or take a class/lesson together? Would she like a trip somewhere…like to her grandparents.

  10. Shanda, Sarah Joy has gotten so big and she is so very adorable!!! I was thinking about a suggestion for Grace’s birthday….do you think she would enjoy beads for making jewelry or even her very own sewing basket complete with needles, thread, crafty patterns and fabric? I imagine she is very creative!!!! The suggestions from others are great too!! Hard to believe you have ICE!! My air conditioning is running at this very moment, however, the weather pattern is supposed to change in a few days. Blessings to you and your family!!

  11. what a cutie pie~4 grace -i went through the same with kate’s bday recently, not sure what to buy. what about boots? maybe she already has a pair but target has some adorable rubber ones right now/ and the ugg looking kind too, which kate especially loves. several gift cards are fun as they get older, i think – like to several of their favorite stores. that way they can pick out what they want.. and sometimes these girlies just don’t know until they see it!! 😉

  12. She is just adorable… I love when they find their feet!! She must be such a blessing to your family :)For birthday gifts… what about some sort fo scrapbook, or a fancy journal (leather, or natural paper or something?) and a set of nice pens? This is about the age I started journalling a lot, and really loved pretty paper, stickers, clip art, and pens.
