Ahhh, the blessings of Older Children.
I wouldn’t recommend throwing a soft oozy tomato pointblank at your preschooler, but if you have a 6, 11, or 12 year old boy handy….and a nice red juicy tomato handy…..well, I say,
LET ‘EM HAVE IT!
I haven’t laughed so hard in days. We were chasing each other around the porch, through the house (as I screamed, “Get back outside!” “Don’t throw that in here!”) and on the lawn.
I wish I could take credit for Jacob’s face. It was Ethan, all Ethan. He pinned his big brother down, and washed his face in Tomato. I could see, from where I was standing, Ethan’s arm going round and round, as he busily washed and rubbed.
It was at that point that I went for the camera.
Jacob did not lose his temper. He’s just at that age when it’s cool to look “tough” for the camera.
He was a real good sport.
I’m telling ya, it gave me as much energy and happiness as a big ol’ cup of coffee!
I was still chuckling when Rich came home from work, hours later.

You have a beautiful family (even with tomato juice on them.) Enjoy your week away with hubby and baby. I raised 7 children, but they were farther apart than yours. My oldest will be 50 the end of this month, and the youngest is 25. Now I’m enjoying grandchildren and even a great grand- child.
How fun he was a good sport. You are sooo right, it’s is the “age” to look tough Thanks for the early morning smile as I could picture you all running through the house and poor Jacob getting it rubbed in. Boy, boys, boys

You’re such a good mama. Your kids are gonna have so many wonderful memories. I love that you took pictures rather than scolding. But, I must say, those pics are gross! They look like chunky blood. :O

Oh, we did that too as kids. (only with the ooey, rotten ones…) The smell was horiffic, but is was a great memory. My dad even got in on the fun.
Oh, my goodness! When I first came to your site, I thought he was HURT, and that all that goop was blood! Now that I know it’s just tomato, I am giggling, too!
He doesn’t look as “happy” about the situation as you were:)
