a poem for you

“The Swing”

We ordered this swingset on a beautiful sunny day, four weeks ago, and we have been eagerly awaiting it’s arrival.  It was delivered and set up first thing this morning….at 7:00am!  When the delivery men saw us coming down the hill to watch them put it together, they asked me, “Are those all your children or is this a day care?”  I said they were all mine and they laughed and said “SIX? You should have gotten a bigger swing set!”

Well, this one is good enough, we think.  We picked it out together and now our youngsters have another place of their own, a place to make childhood memories.  They have been outside almost all day today, even though the weather is chilly and damp.  Grace said dramatically, “They SAID it would be a gloomy day, but it’s the BEST day for US!”

Because, not only did they get a swing set, but Mama also made homemade brownies.

  1. Awesome!  What a great swingset that is.  I love the happinness in your kids’ eyes.  So sweet.  Glad you had a nice “gloomy” day, that turned out to be marvelous! 🙂

  2. Love it! I love the animals going down the slide =] Would you mind sharing what type of swing set that is or where you ordered it from? You have a beautiful home.

  3. Love the swingset!!  Your kids will have so much fun.  You know I get asked that same question a lot — are those all your kids???  I have to laugh b/c I only have 3 right now.  Enjoy all the fun and the brownies .

  4. I love it!Can I ask…what do you do with your older kids to keep them quiet/occupied during naptime?  Our little guy is the same age as Seth and my older ones are 5 and 7…..I cannot figure out what to do!

  5. Oh, they will have hours of fun there!!  We have definately “gotten our money’s worth” out of our swing.  Well worth the investment.  I will say though that they get very creative with the slide.  (I close my eyes sometimes….it’s just stuff a mom can’t watch:).Enjoy!!!  A new swing AND brownies….your daughter was right….it doesn’t get too much better!!

  6. That has always been one of my favorite poems. When I was growing up, we were never without a swing. My dad usually built a swing or two for us children — once it was a long rope swing out over a bank. Wonderful memories!

  7. Yes! My girls DO want to come over and swing! We have been looking at metal sets and think the total weight of our 3 girls exceeds the recommended 100lbs. Did you buy yours from a local company, or someone I too could order from? We are also interested in a trampoline. What diameter is yours? You can “message me” if you don’t want to use up your comment section. Thanks!

  8. Wonderful joyful childhood…this made me smile today! I too have found swinging still fun, and good for the tummy muscles The handover hand bars are so good for the brain, so encourage the kids in that too, may need to have the big guys spot the younger ones so they do not get caught in the swing chains. Please come by and leave a few words of comfort for us sometime when you have the time. Your post today and your family make my heart glad.

  9. Hello. Lovely poem and beautiful happy pictures. I wouldn’t mind living here, this lovely house, hill and swing/blimb set. I could make brownies too. Only: six brads ?  But seriously: you must have been saving for quite a while…kids appreciate that too, you know. Have lots of fun…in the evenings, whenever you need some peace and quite I advise you a little private swingtime yourself…enjoy.Godeliva from Ariadone

  10. YAY YAY YAY!!!!! I have so many good memories of swinging as a child (actually, I STILL love to swing! ), and I feel almost as excited for your kids as I would be for my own! There is no doubt in my mind that your children will get that swing set’s FULL WORTH of use out of it, and more! Have a great weekend – I know you all will!Love,Angie
