“The Swing”
We ordered this swingset on a beautiful sunny day, four weeks ago, and we have been eagerly awaiting it’s arrival. It was delivered and set up first thing this morning….at 7:00am! When the delivery men saw us coming down the hill to watch them put it together, they asked me, “Are those all your children or is this a day care?” I said they were all mine and they laughed and said “SIX? You should have gotten a bigger swing set!”
Well, this one is good enough, we think. We picked it out together and now our youngsters have another place of their own, a place to make childhood memories. They have been outside almost all day today, even though the weather is chilly and damp. Grace said dramatically, “They SAID it would be a gloomy day, but it’s the BEST day for US!”
Because, not only did they get a swing set, but Mama also made homemade brownies.
“Wanna come over and swing with me?”

Awesome! What a great swingset that is. I love the happinness in your kids’ eyes. So sweet. Glad you had a nice “gloomy” day, that turned out to be marvelous! 🙂
i LOVE it! and i love to see how happy it makes the kids too!( i’ll take some brownies!)
How fun!
Love it! I love the animals going down the slide =] Would you mind sharing what type of swing set that is or where you ordered it from? You have a beautiful home.
Very nice set…looks very sturdy!!! My kids would be in HOG heaven with that. Hm….maybe that’s something we should look into.{{{Hugs}}}
Much fun in store, I can see ~
I have found memories of swinging! They will, too. You can tell they love it!
Love the swingset!! Your kids will have so much fun. You know I get asked that same question a lot — are those all your kids??? I have to laugh b/c I only have 3 right now. Enjoy all the fun and the brownies .
What a delightful post! Your children surely did have a fantastic day; they all look so pleased with things! have a lovely week!
So sweet! They all look so happy! It looks really nice Shan! Good choice! Love you, and I’ll see you in a couple days!!! Lish
What a cool swingset. I know they will have a ball.
That looks SO delightful! I’ll be right over!
That is a wonderful place for the kids to hang out.We had a similar one made for our niece and nephew by an Amishman.
I love it when can we come over and play?????? ~Amanda
I love it!Can I ask…what do you do with your older kids to keep them quiet/occupied during naptime? Our little guy is the same age as Seth and my older ones are 5 and 7…..I cannot figure out what to do!
FUN!!! So happy you got the swingset—it’s perfect!!
That is very nice!! I’m sure the kids will love it & get much use out of it:) I like what Grace said, and with brownies that’s even better.
Oh it is so universal KID to send the stuffed animals down for a ride! Made me smile! It looks like the perfect swing set, it looks like it will last and last!
They will have so much fun!!
yay for swingsets…me and my three sibs never owned one, but we always loved it when someone else had one and we got to play on it…
Looks like so much fun!
Oh, they will have hours of fun there!! We have definately “gotten our money’s worth” out of our swing. Well worth the investment. I will say though that they get very creative with the slide. (I close my eyes sometimes….it’s just stuff a mom can’t watch:).Enjoy!!! A new swing AND brownies….your daughter was right….it doesn’t get too much better!!
That has always been one of my favorite poems. When I was growing up, we were never without a swing. My dad usually built a swing or two for us children — once it was a long rope swing out over a bank. Wonderful memories!
Yes! My girls DO want to come over and swing! We have been looking at metal sets and think the total weight of our 3 girls exceeds the recommended 100lbs. Did you buy yours from a local company, or someone I too could order from? We are also interested in a trampoline. What diameter is yours? You can “message me” if you don’t want to use up your comment section. Thanks!
@cherylyn_p – Typo!!! That should have been 200lbs, not 100!!!
Fun!! My boys love to swing but at this point we still headed to the park. Beautiful place you have!
If I tell me girls they will want to come even more! I hope to see you Sunday!
Wonderful joyful childhood…this made me smile today! I too have found swinging still fun, and good for the tummy muscles The handover hand bars are so good for the brain, so encourage the kids in that too, may need to have the big guys spot the younger ones so they do not get caught in the swing chains. Please come by and leave a few words of comfort for us sometime when you have the time. Your post today and your family make my heart glad.
Coool- you were on the front page of Xanga…thats how I found this entry. 😉 Happy swinging!!
Hello. Lovely poem and beautiful happy pictures. I wouldn’t mind living here, this lovely house, hill and swing/blimb set. I could make brownies too. Only: six brads ? But seriously: you must have been saving for quite a while…kids appreciate that too, you know. Have lots of fun…in the evenings, whenever you need some peace and quite I advise you a little private swingtime yourself…enjoy.Godeliva from Ariadone
I LOVE swinging when I was little… I would do it for hours 🙂
YAY YAY YAY!!!!! I have so many good memories of swinging as a child (actually, I STILL love to swing! ), and I feel almost as excited for your kids as I would be for my own! There is no doubt in my mind that your children will get that swing set’s FULL WORTH of use out of it, and more! Have a great weekend – I know you all will!Love,Angie
i like the stuffed animals going down the slide! :)swinging = a universal favorite pastime. enjoy the day, shan. ❤
