Grace helped fold all these clothes.

At the dinner table, she was complaining that “I used to like folding clothes but now I don’t.  I’m going to try to avoid it every chance I can.”

To which wise Mommy replied, “You’re going to have to learn to enjoy work.  Work makes life worth living.”

Ethan immediately said, unemotionally, as he continued to chew his dinner, “What about food?”

Every time I say something that I think will boggle their minds, they come up with something that boggles mine.

Truly, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.”

And that includes the small men in the family.

Needless to say, I didn’t win any hearts with last night’s meal of boiled dinner.

Now, where’s my book?

  1. I made a resolution some time back that I would NEVER let my clean laundry pile up again. My solution? I (or one of the kids) fold it immediately when it’s dry. I use to take clothes out of the dryer and put them in piles until I had time to get to them. Well, that time didn’t seem to happen and I hated the mess. My new method is working wonderfully!

  2. Very funny!  I can never seem to wow Samuel with my dinners.  Everyone else likes them.  The kid just doesn’t like new things…and the pediatrician says it’s normal.  I think that’s why he wakes up so early–HUNGER!!!

  3. Hilarious photo, Shanda!  My problem is that I take the clean laundry to the bedroom, get distracted with a phone call, etc., then go back there at bedtime and wonder, “What????”  By the way, what is boiled dinner?

  4. Your children say the funniest things.
I agree with fwren, that is a funny photo.  Oh — to real be reading that book! (chuckle) I also have mounds of laundry, dinner to cook, and  children that got into everything that prevents me from getting some reading done. Matter of fact, I just finished my book only because all of us was strapped into car seats.
I too want to know what you are reading. And if you say Martha Stewarts Good House Keeping section of folding laundry — I would know where your little ones get their humor from!

  5. I love this picture… taking time to read even when there is a lot of laundry to do!! I should learn to do that more often; too many times I set aside important things in life to get the work finished. Yes, work is a must, and people have to have clean clothes… but I need to not be so obsessive about it all the time. I need to take time to stop and smell the flowers along the way

  6. A mountain of laundry, the most romantic, old fashion roses,a handsome husbandand way to much red paint.I’m never sure what I’ll find when I come to visit, but it’s always….intertaining or cute or profound or silly or delightful or amazing.I think your family makes life worth living, especially since you know the Lord is with you

  7. I love that picture! sneakers on the couch and all! =) Your house always looks so warm and inviting, like I want to come visit and just linger with a cup of coffee…(in a fiestaware mug) ….
My husband informed me he has to take a day trip for work to CT later this spring…I immediately thought…ohhh maybe I could meet up with Shanda that day! I will no more details soon =)
    Have a great day!

  8. Ha, ha, ha! That sounds like my house and the laundry basket makes me feel like I just walked into our home. The book….well, I would always RATHER be reading than folding laundry!!! Although…..my true heart would say that I’m thankful for all of that laundry because it represents life…..the precious life of each member of the family.
You are a blessing. Thank you, once again, for a little lift and a little chuckle in the morning. Your son is, indeed, hilarious! I just love him!
Have a great day and may you fold mounds of laundry for many years to come! OR….may your CHILDREN fold mounds of laundry for many years to come!
    ((((Hugs))))

  9. Is Grace even as TALL as that basket of clothes? LOL!!!Reminds me of a show (I think “American Dream”) on TV a few years ago about life in the 60’s. The mother told the son, “Every time I hate having to cook dinner, I make tuna casserole.” The son said, “But, we eat tuna casserole all the time!” She smiled at him and nodded her head “yes.” Point was, you have to do some things whether you like them or not!

  10. I think that Ethan boggled your mind should be proof to you that you are doing a great job raising very smart children.  I love it when that happens.  You truly are a wise mommy.  I fold my laundry as soon as it’s done in the dryer because I hate rinkles and ironing, but I wish someone would come over to help me put it away.  I am often running down to the laundry room to get clean clothes for the kids.  In fact, when they come down on weekends and I’ve told them to go get dressed they ask, “Are there any clean clothes in the laundry room?” because they don’t want to go back up stairs.

  11. OH I remember! We did laundry every day of our lives for a long time. It seems weird doing three little loads for just Ed and I. Along with everyone else I just loved this picture. Thanks for making smiles go round. Love you, M

  12. I have two piles that size I’m working my way through … you are fortunate that you still have little ones to help with the extra ‘load’!I love the photo … and this post!  Thank you for the smiles!  Blessings ~ Deborah <><P.S. By the way … what are you reading there?

  13. LOL!!! Kids say the funniest things. šŸ™‚ Good for Grace to help fold the laundry. I too would much rather read than fold. Whatcha reading now?? Blessings

  14. this shot is hilarious. and one so familiar around here ~ my Kate shares the same sentiments as Grace. šŸ™‚ actually… I share the same sentiments as Grace – “avoid it every chance I can.”=D

  15. Very funny!!!! Kids!!! and yes very typical boys! FOOD!!! What would they do without it! I love the picture!! I don’t think I am brave enough to take a picture of mine…ugh! I don’t want a reminder!!! Hahaha!

  16. Right now I’m reading Stephen King’s Duma Key is about the size of that book you’re holding.  What is your book?  The pile of laundry looks familiar:)
