Once upon a time, last Friday afternoon, Mama bear’s tummy started to growl. She was hungry for a snack. In fact, to be perfectly honest, she was having a craving for chocolate.
She wanted chocolate cake with creamy frosting. But when she checked the cupboards, she found none.
(none)
She thought about making her own cake but she had no energy.
(none at all)
Then she decided to have some Ben and Jerry’s New York Super Fudge Chunk ice cream. But when she checked the freezer, she found none.
(none)
Then she dreamed of Godiva chocolates. But that was only a dream.
(a day dream)
She looked and she looked and finally she found something that might possibly satisfy her craving. It was Nutella. Every good Mama bear buys her cubs animal crackers, so she got those out, too. Then she got a knife.
Her five bear cubs of various sizes were busy in the other room, playing games, so Mama bear sat cross legged on the couch, turned on the news, and ate animal cracker after animal cracker, all spread thick with creamy, chocolaty Nutella.
Soon Mama bear was beginning to feel full. But she recklessly kept on eating anyway. Then, along came her baby bear cub. He wanted his Mama to share and so she did, happily. She started making baby bear his own crackers w/Nutella. Baby bear had some organizational skills and so he lined them all up like this:
Mama bear decided to eat one of Baby bear’s crackers. But this made Baby bear very mad.
Not only did he take it back, he also made himself a new one.
Mama bear was starting to feel very silly from all that sugar. So she decided to do some decorating.
She decided to start with Baby bear’s itty bitty nose.
And then, she decorated Baby bear’s favorite choo-choo, the dirty ink-faced James.
Mama bear’s tummy was round and full when she finally got up and brushed the crumbs off her shirt. She twirled the tops back on the cookie jar and the Nutella and looked at the clock.
Hopefully her chocolate fix and silly mood would last through the next few hours, until Big Papa bear came home. Although she was a bear, she tried hard not to act like one. It was very difficult to keep herself from growling at times.
Chocolate seemed to help with attitude and endurance problems and so Mama bear got back to work, feeling much better after her snack. She was a Very Busy Mama, but no mama should ever too busy for chocolate.
The End

Chocolate can make you do very funny things!!!
Yum! I love Nutella! I never thought of putting it on animal crackers, though. Sounds good.
This was so funny! I have to share this with Jeremy! He’ll get a kick out of it too! Well done!
Haha, fun post! I also get chocolate cravings and have resorted to Nutella a time or two myself Coffee and chocolate can work wonders when you are running on little sleep and taking care of busy kiddos
Mama Bear…..this was an entertaining post. So cute. : )
Remind me to get some of that awesome stuff at the store tomorrow LOL Love Nutella. LOVE It. Alex loved the picture of James, he goes “What’s on his nose, Momma??” Like, all offended that James had marker AND chocolate on him. Hehe.
Ah oh! Now THIS Momma bear is having chocolate cravings……GRRRR…..(that’s the beginning of a growl in this momma bear’s tummy….but…I don’t have any Nutella).
I think I’ll make some hot cocoa. :):)
Thanks for such a fun and adorable post! I hope you are feeling much better and very satisfied!
Blessings!
Jana
too cute. I love Nutella too. =)
Too cute.
I enjoyed your post. Chocolate and peanut butter are my favorite foods, even after eating them for 60 years! Yes, Shanda, he got a picture. I think it still exists in our family somewhere. There are 8 of us and I don’t know who has it. I will let you in on the rest of the story, either on a post later, or if you can’t wait, I can e-mail it to you. I wrote it today. Later, Albert
I am hoping papa is not a “bear” when he comes home..hehe like the story
Cute story! Think I’ll have my afternoon chocolate fix right now.
hehehe….cute story, and sounded about like this mama bear….last night I had hunger needs too, ended up with a small can of beanie weanies, then ice cream with fudge on top, and REALLY wanted peanuts, but NONE, so I sprinkled wheat germ on top…..=/ didn’t quite taste like the nuts I wanted though!!! When the attacks hit, we do what we need to do to survive…right sister?? lol
oh, btw, I have never heard of nutella….wonder if I can get it around here….from the pictures and comments, I think I’m missing out…..=)
LOL…the Cookie Monster’s Moma lives at our house! She likes the tangarines and dark chocolate too
I am amazed that you were able to get a picture of you and baby bear during the meltdown…and you seemed to be enjoying yourself. I think we all were laughing…and wishing for chocolate.
I have still never had Nutella. I think I must try it, especially if it puts Mama Bears in such a good mood.
Cute story, I LOVE Caleb’s face and his trains too. I have never had Nutella either,Where do you buy it? I am guessing it is good?
You are a hoot, dear girl! I have a Dove dark chocolate stash in my cupboard for those moments ~
You’re the best! LOL Very good story…..all us mammas can relate. Yum , Yum to chocolate. Jenny
LOL!
I think you should write childrens books!!!
I’ve never heard of Nutella I’ll have to try and find it.
chocolate………*sighs the nursing mother of a rather sensitive 5 week old…*
As to the blog – I loved it, loved it, loved it. But this mama is NOT happy that now you have her craving chocolate when she is trying to lose a few pounds! lol
And that is why every well-stocked pantry needs something chocolate-y and snack-y for Mama Bears, Baby Bears, and Bears of all statuses.
Aw……your story was un-BEAR-lievably sweet. 🙂
This was very cute. Good work.:)
We just read your story aloud….as every good story book should be read. And we laughed I think momma bear must be reading a few stories to baby bear. We like mama bears sense of humor and good sense! Jenny
I’m bringing up the rear here, and have to say that you made my day! I have to check to see if I can get Nutella, as well!I don’t think I could be quite as creatively entertaining as you were here! This was precious … you’re a great mom!Blessings ~ Deborah <><
Shanda, you are absolutely one-of-a-kind. You are so adorable and you’re able to tell such endearing stories!! You also have the pictures to match!! I enjoyed it wholeheartedly!! I also love Nutella! I first had it while I was in Albania/Kosovo. I didn’t realize that they sold it over here until recently. I, too, must pick some up on my next supermarket adventure. “…but no mama should ever be too busy for chocolate.” I need to remember this. I’m sure I’ll say it again in the future, but I’ll be sure to quote you!!
Oh, Shanda, this was just too cute! You are REALLY creative and an engaging story-teller…I think you would make a great children’s author! I can SO relate to the cravings for chocolate! That’s right – no mama – or woman, for that matter – should ever be too busy for chocolate!
I love you so much…I’m glad mama was able to find something to calm the grizzly in her. I was feeling rather bearish last week. We will have to see how this week goes. Hope to see you this weekend!
So cute – and very creative writing.
Waaaaaay back in the seventh/eight grades, my French teacher would bring this in when we had a party. I don’t think any has crossed my mouth since then. Since I remember it being quite yum, I think it will appear on the grocery list. In that top secret mamma stash section, of course….tee hee.
Oh how I love chocolate! This post was so cute!!
And you wonder why your children write on themselves with lipstick and markers??? ha ha — this was a very cute post!! I’ve never heard of Nutella and probably wouldn’t have bought it as my daughter is very allergic to nuts. What is it normally used for?
How cute! I just realized that except for a taste of orange marmalade, I haven’t had a single sweet morsel since Christmas.
And here I thought Bears liked Honey! — Extremely cute post! d
I have something called my “PMS stash” which consists of chocolates I order online from See’s Candy Co. They aren’t as expensive as Godiva and, by ordering, I only have the ones that are my favorite. Jesse laughs when he comes to our bedroom and finds me with the box open on my lap, my mouth full of chocolates, and the wrappers clutched in one of my hands! He doesn’t even attempt to get close to me – I’d probably growl!!!What IS it about chocolate? LOL
very cute story!i love nutella too! my mom always brought some back from Austria when she went for missions trips…
ah, yes.. sometimes Mama Bear needs to do what Mama Bear needs to do to stay happy~ you know that old saying,”if mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody else happy!” when s. was gone i made a bowl of white butter frosting, and would sit and eat it w/ a spoon almost every night while watching tv~! i’m still paying for that one. 🙂 a few more visits to the gym should do it. but, now seeing this post… hmmm…. i should go see what’s in my cabinets to snack on! See what you’ve created! lol.
What a cute post — it deserves to be published and marketed! Love Nutella, with its hazelnut flavor — mmmm!
I’m a bad mama bear-I have never tried nor bought Nutella. And I always forget the animal crackers…maybe this will help with my lack of energy!!
This was just adornable. WE love nutella around my house! drizzled on this and spooned onto that. YUMMOLAA!
you are hilarious. yeah, i’m all about the chocolate fix, too…..and the silliness! great post!
This is a funny story! Do you know that I have never had Nutella. Now I wonder what I’m missing!
Looks yummy and so much fun!! glad you got your chocolate fix.
