Said the Robin to the Sparrow:
“I should really like to know
Why these anxious human beings
Rush about and worry so.”

Said the Sparrow to the Robin:
“Friend, I think that it must be
That they have no heavenly Father
Such as cares for you and me.”

“Overheard in an Orchard”, Elizabeth Cheney

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? (next to nothing)
and one of them shall not fall on the ground
without your Father.  But the very hairs
of your head are numbered
.  Fear ye not therefore,
ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Jesus’ words in Matthew 10:29-31

Oh thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Jesus’ words in Matthew 14:31

Hello, dear caring xanga friends!   Thank you for your prayers this week!  By the grace of God we got through it.  Every day there was a new challenge and on most days tears were shed, but every day was also full of His blessings.  Just full!  I got happy mail in the mailbox, happy messages here on xanga, I had a nice talk w/Colleen, and my sister Amanda, and several with my friend Kathy.  Kathy made me laugh when she combated my prayer to die with a passionate, “Don’t listen to her, God, she’s not herself!”  (I don’t really want to die, but I would like to just be done with life now and then, you understand, I hope, I’m not really like that, just come and take me to GLORYLAND, that’s how I feel now and then). . . . .anyway, I’ve gotten dinner on the table every night, we did school this week, the kids are clean and taken care of. . .we’re warm, we’re snug, we’re safe, God is good, His grace is sufficient, His mercies are new each morning!

I’m still not feeling all that perky, my neck has been stiff, and I have aches and pains.  But, I am definitely better than I was yesterday and the day before. . . keep those prayers coming and I will pray for you all, too.  Oh, and I was reminded this morning that our journey with God is UPWARD. .even in these down times, when we feel like we are oh so low, we’re not!  He’s always leading us UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn’t that great?

Just think!  God knows right now how many hairs are on your head!

Okay, on to earthly things for a moment:

QUESTION—I want some good tea!  Any suggestions on where to buy and what to buy?  I’m open to online shopping, as well.

ALSO—I need a GOOD PENCIL SHARPENER. .one to mount on the wall that can “never” be lost and will “never” break.   I hate every sharpener I’ve bought, the last one was electric from Target.  We also tried a battery powered one.  Any suggestions to a GOOD ONE that will last for years and not months?  I have had so many frustrating moments as a homeschool mom, just because of pencils!

****I ordered the one our friend mother_of_encouragment suggested! yippee!****

Okay, I’m going to go get Caleb out of his high chair and get the older kids put to bed for reading time.  Caleb already napped so I will have company during quiet time today. . . . .

Have a great afternoon and thanks for stopping by my site today!

  1. Good tea–my favorite tea is from Barnes and Noble–Hearney and Sons–you can buy it online.  I love their Holiday Tea and the Peach Ginger Twist.  SOOOOOO good!!!

  2. I’m so glad you’re doing better today!  So glad!
The BEST tea ever…(and no, Amanda and Cathi, it’s not the tea from the Ladies’ Tea :oP) is Adagio Tea.  They have this amazing little tea dispenser, and I have it, and I love it.  I also have several tins, if you’d like to try some.  I just got a new herbal flavor called Berry Blues.  It’s amazing.  They’ve got a lovely starter kit that runs about $19, but you get several tins of sampler (which, the samples last forever!) flavors, and you get the tea dispenser.  I highly recommend it, as you can tell.  I also love the Tazo line of teas from Starbucks.  Talk to you soon. πŸ™‚  Love, Trish

  3. Oh dear Ms. Shanda, I am so glad that you are starting to fell better and that your spirits have lifted! What an amazing, refreshing post. The first little piece that you shared was particularly eye-opening and realy struck me.
I will continue to send prayers your way… have a blessed day

  4. You know I love the photos ~ especially the first one!    You told me you were thinking of how God cares for even sparrows ~ and sure enough, you were!  Have a wonderful afternoon ~

  5. God’s mercies are new every morning, for us all! πŸ™‚ I am happy that you were encouraged and that God has give you close family and friends to help you through your valley’s. We all understand how you feel. Take it easy my friend.

  6. Really good “jay” photos. I have an old Ranger 55 pencil sharpener (wall mount) and it works GREAT! I went online and you can still buy them…though somewhat pricey ($30.00 range) Go to ReStockit.com. I would buy another one if this one quit…but I don’t think that I will have to. This one is at least 40 years old. Glad that there is some improvement in your health. Love you!

  7. The pictures of the birds are awsome. I have been so happy to hear them sining again this past week on the warm days when I had my windows in the house open. I am glad that the week is over as well I always feel better when I know J can be home with me on the weekends and I know you feel the same way about your hubby!!! The tea I have tried many but I am a plain-jane and stick to Liptons and the pencil sharpener I got a great one believe it or not at Ocean State however it is a table top electric one. Have a great evening xoxox -sissy

  8. You’ve captured my heart with your bird pictures. I just adore birds.I know how discouraging it feels to be sick for a while and have responsibilities, nonetheless. I’m praying here.Tea: My favorite (for when I’m sickly) isn’t as fancy as some that others have mentioned. It is by Celestial Seasonings and called “Bengal Spice” and is available at the grocery store. It contains cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom with a little bit of vanilla. It is on the peppery side and feels great when you have sinus or throat problems.

  9. Glad to hear you are a bit better.
Another nice tea is Celestial Seasoning Lemon Zinger. It is good for when you’re under-the-weather. It’s like Neo-Citron, but of course you control the amount of sugar you put in it, and it doesn’t make you drowsy!
    Be blessed,

  10. “…even in these down times, when we feel like we are oh so low, we’re not!  He’s always leading us UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
A truely amazing thought… these words have been running through my head all day!

  11. That’s my Mom’s favorite poem. My favorite tea is (Mom’s) homegrown peppermint. πŸ™‚ Please report on how you like the pencil sharpener. You can live in heaven now, you know. That’s really what it’s about, living in Jesus NOW and always…..

  12. I’m glad you’re feeling a bit better. Trish suggested Adagio teas, and I like them, too. I’ve only had them at my brother-in-law’s house, though.Lorelei’s fine by the way… just a personality thing, I guess.

  13. those pictures are AMAZING…you are so very talented! Thank you for this encouraging post! I love the reminder that He is always  leading us UP! It is exactly what I needed to “hear” today. =)

  14. I LOVE THESE PHOTO’s!  I had Jeremy look at them they were so awesome!  Its so cool how much detail God puts into his creation and then on top of that he CARES so much for it, no matter how undesirable or undeserving we are.  Thank you for the thoughts and an FYI–I’ve had days recently when I wanted to escape to Glory land–God has you here for a reason, Shan, and you are such a faithful servant and child.  Keep looking up! Love, Lish

  15. Another lovely post!  You are good at looking up   My devotional today said” We are not happy here because we are not at home here.  WE are not happy here because we are not supposed to be happy here.  We are “like foreigners and strangers in this world: (1 Peter 2:11) ” It went on to say we will have moments of joy here…”glimpses of light” but we were made for heaven and the happiness that lies ahead.   Thankfully the Lord gives us joy here  in the midst of our trials and pains.  I do look up to him and pray for His joy   David and I both had our necks adjusted today….”had our heads put on straight”..so hoping that takes care of some of the physical aches.  Giving the soulful ones to the Lord.  blessings, Jenny

  16. You ordered the Miss Read books?!  Ohhh you will just love them!  I happened to pick one up at the library, at random.  I fell in love with it and decided to start with her very first ones.  Enjoy and let me know what you think!

    xoo Cat

  17. Oh man!  I’ve had the same illness down here in my “neck” of the woods!!!!  It’s every where!  I feel for you really!  My neck hurt so bad!  Nothing helped.  I took tons of pain killers and nothing!  I couldn’t look donw at all.  A couple of days and I couldn’t even move my neck at all.  Now one of my sons has it and so does a girl in our Home Church.  What evil bug is this?  Glad to hear you are feeling a little better.  I feel better off and on.  I was able to work on a crochet project this afternoon without pain.
Love the pictures of the blue jays!

  18. Not only did this post make me feel good, but all teh wonderful comments you got made your post even better.God is so good. And don’t I have the sweetest sister (ABAHM)? Whenever I’m troubled or have fun news she is the one God gave me to share it with!

  19. Glad to hear you are a bit better.  Life sometimes leaves me longing for heaven as well, I can understand.  It’s a good thing.  We aren’t meant to be too settled here.  I’m eager to hear how the pencil sharpener works.  I still haven’t found one I like and I was also thinking a wall mount/old school one would be the thing.  I’ll wait to see if you recommend it.:)

  20. Wow once again gotta say it, LOVE your pictures!
And the words you put with them.  Tea….I just got some tea from a place called Teavanna, think you can order on line.  Love their blueberry bliss and also their Snow Geshia (cherry) tea.

  21. Love You my wonderful niece!  I am sorry to have cut our talk short…we will have to make up for it next week!  I will call you (probably Thursday)  We should make this a weekly thing for us to touch base.  Plus I have still been looking for our get-away.  Your Mom mentioned that maybe we should go to Hudson since that is where my grandfather’s family was from…and that there should still be Gohls there.  So that is where I have been looking to go…I will e-mail you some links of the B&Bs that I have been looking at.
Talk with you in a few days!

  22. Just hopping over from a new Xanga friend’s blog & I like that your children are the opposite genders as mine: 4 girls & one boy here!  I was one of girl of 3 boys, I know & sympathyze all the time with my son!!!
A homeschooling momma here, enjoying your encouragement & lovely photography.  My husband’s a photo-buff, too.  God be with you & heal this illness.  Two of my five tornados are back in bed sick, once more with this mystery illness… sore throat, hot, cold, TIRED… take care & it’d be nice to “meet” you once more!  Feel free to visit my blog πŸ˜‰

  23. I am glad you feel better….I hope you are “perky” again soon. Even in the midst of your “down times” God uses your words to encourage others…..you do me! Take it easy……well as much as your can. I understand about wanting GloryLand…..oh what a day of rejoicing that will be!

  24. pretty bird! and thanks for being real & transparent – like that! :)what’s the pencil sharpener? i need a new one too. our big one broke, and i’m tired of the little ones that seem to disappear mysteriously – “but mom, i can’t do my school. my pencil broke and i can’t find the sharpener!!” happy sunday dear~

  25. I’m sorry that you’ve been sick. It sounds like the same thing we had a while back. I had to laugh at a previous post you did about all of you going outside for the first time in awhile. The one on his head, the one crying, unfinished math problems… I’m glad my kids aren’t the only ones who act like that sometimes:) I had the same problems with pencil sharpeners…until I found this little train sharpener that has a handle to turn, and no cord or batteries to replace. It’s been so long I can’t remember where I got it, but the name is, “Sunwood,” and the model # is 5169. They have it for sell at http://www.iospg.com type the model #5169 in the search window and you will find it. I hope you feel stronger soon. With 5 kids myself and homeschooling, I can relate with how you feel. Lately, I’ve found that working up a sweat in some kind of exercise revitalizes me and makes me feel stronger and more alive. Remember…you are doing the most important job any woman can do and I believe your children will grow up to called you blessed. Kathryn

  26. I love your photos of the birds. And you always have some encouraging words to share which I also think is AWESOME! God is so Good!
    Comment back,

  27. Hi Shanda, I am glad you are feeling better. God gives us all the grace we need for each day, one day at a time. I say this, not just because it is the nice thing to say, but because I experience that grace each day. I was going to comment on the poem about the sparrows. I saw lazonya75 made a comment about it. She is my daughter and that painter was my Dad. I aways liked that poem too. Albert

  28. So funny as soon as I saw the first picture I thought of Fwren and how much she will love this post, and there she was saying just that!!!
I am so glad you are feeling better and are so surrounded with loving friends and family!!!
Leading us up reminded me of the “Further up and further in” quote from Narnia.  It is a good reminder I just said on the phone to Steve “it seems like I slipped backwards!!”
