He has a wonderful new teacher, Mr. Clayton B, who always keeps him over his 1/2 hour lesson because they are having so much fun.  (They have become friends.)

After mastering the latest song, “Pop goes the Weasel”, his teacher asked Jacob which song he wanted to learn.

He chose “Ashokan Farewell”.  The song that plays on my blog.

He is so excited about learning it that he has been playing his violin 3 or 4 times a day.

  1. That is so great that he loves his instrument!  I’ve always wanted to learn some string instruments.  It must be neat to listen to him practice and I can tell you are proud of your boy.  Love, Lish

  2. I didn’t know he played!  That’s so cool.  I mean, really cool.  He is half-grown!  I would love to see inside your heart regarding this matter!  Mine are so small, and it seems that Jacob’s age will never come for them, but I know it will be in a flash.  Then, I will be in awe, just like you, wondering what happened to them and how did they mature so much?  ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Oh, I really enjoyed viewing these pictures – glad you were able to post them today! The “Ashokan Farewell” is one of my favorites to hear on the violin. There is a certain mystique about it.I enjoyed our visit!

  4. I think it’s so great that he is learning to play an instrument. I have been thinking of getting my girls involved in learning one too. Please pray for us today, we all have been under the weather this week. Have a great day…

  5. What lovely pictures AND the story about your son, too! That first picture really grabbed my attention. Something about the simplicity of the black & white photo with a glow on his hand and the violin!

  6. Oh I love it! I know you are so proud of him for working so hard at this. I agree with fwren. You will have to record him playing and put it on here. I want to see him in the orchestra as soon as he’s ready!

  7. Hi Shanda…..Those are very beautiful pictures! Thats so great that your son has a passion for the violin. I like the pic of him staring into the camera holding his violin. I really enjoy coming to your site. Though I don’t post a comment like I should be doing. Your pictures really grab me….you are very talented!!
Take care and God Bless You!!

  8. The pictures of your violinist remind me of a sad/sweet story about one of my kids.  At a very early age this child told us he/she wanted to learn to play the flute–very very much.  We thought that was wonderful.  We  bought a flute.  We found a teacher.  We found a childrens band.  But after a year he/she gave it up.  No interest at all.  :o(  I just couldn’t understand it.  We tried to find out why, but the child really didn’t want to talk about it.   It wasn’t until years later that that this child “confessed” to us that the instrument they had REALLY wanted to play was a violin, but they thought it was called a flute.  I said “when we went to the music store and bought the flute, why didn’t you say ‘oh that is not the instrument I meant!!  I meant one like THIS’—and show us a violin?’  Child said it was just to embarressing to admit that he/she didn’t know the difference between a flute and a violin……..we said “it’s never too late to learn”…….but they thought they were “too old”………

  9. beautiful.
RYC: that is so so sad.  I think it was pretty irresponsible of the school to do such a thing.  I pray things can be different for my children.  Lord help us!

  10. Great pictures.  How old is he?  I wish my kids could take violin.  They all take piano and they sing together.  I don’t know anything about getting a good instrument or finding a teacher.  That’s neat that he is learning.  Very handsome young man.

  11. These are wonderful shots — especially the last one, where he looks as if he’s just about to break out in a huge grin!  How nice that he’s excited about music.

  12. Ok, I’m hanging up my camera…Your photos are beyond beautiful!  I love the light and how you focused the camera on the violin and Jake’s hands, with the soft backgound and rich highlights on the wood. Well Done!

  13. beautiful pictures.  My dtr started violin this year as well.  I’m disappointed w/ the school  instruction tho, gonna find her a private teacher today.  Thanks for the inspiration  love the pics
