Psalm 60

We released butterflies this afternoon.

After reading the latest update on Amy’s blog (who is battling leukemia) I uploaded the pictures of the butterflies and words from Psalm 90 ran through my head.

We fly away. . . we fly away. . .we fly away.

Fly.

We fly.

“Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.”

“For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.”

“. . we spend our years as a tale that is told. . .”

“The days of our years are threescore and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.”

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”

“Return, O Lord, how long?”

“O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.”

“Make us glad”

“Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us”

*at 4:00pm today–just an hour after I posted this– Amy did indeed “fly away” home to her Maker.  Please take time to visit her blog.  Her story will touch your heart.  I did not know her personally, I just visited her blog for the past few months.  Her testimony certainly encouraged me to cherish every moment.

  1. This sunday at church we sang my college-age daughter’s favorite hymn “I’ll Fly Away.”  After we were done the song leader said “I suppose we won’t be singing that song in Heaven…..maybe we’ll change the words to “I flew away, O glory. I flew away.   When I died, Hallelujah, when I died, I flew away.”
And the butterfly also signifies our new life in Christ………fly away…….

  2. We saw some butterflies, pupas, and cacoons at an exhibit at our zoo.  Super cool.  Have you read _Hope for the Flowers_ by Trina Paulus?  It would be a GREAT addition to any science lessons on butterflies…it is all about becoming a new creation.  Lovely book.  Check it out.

  3. The last one of Grace..she looks beautiful!  The kids watched a butterfly exhibit at the library we go to and that got me interested in geting one of the kits, but during that week we found a caterpillar and brought it home.  It was the coolest thing watching it make its cacoon…one of those posts I have not had time to do yet.  Your post reminded me of how much fun it was to release it with the kids.  The colors are beautiful!

  4. Your photography is always wonderful, and these pictures were exquisite!  It looks like you are doing just great as a homeschool mom, and especially in the science department!
    Grace is so pretty.

  5. You are the coolest mom! After just finding out I have number four in my tummy, I was so encouraged by the picture of your family. I can’t wait til they are all old enough to get their picture taken on a log. Luv to you and keep up the good work!

  6. Another great post…went to the site you mentioned….a very emotional place.   My sister just posted today about a family near them, that the husband has cancer, and there’s nothing more to do, so he’s at home with his family….

  7. I am so grateful that I read your post because I am battling a bad mood today and your post was an encouragment to me to be GRATEFUL for all that God has given me and I read Amy’s story.  How beautiful!  How short life is!  I just started crying uncontrolably as I put myself in his and her shoes . . . wow.  Thank you!

  8. What a beautiful, beautiful entry.
Your entry on books is so fanciful…we have a bookstore in an old historical town nearby…very much like this. Thanks for sharing with us.
ryc….Yes, aren’t the Mennonite curriculums and books so sweetly delightful?   I just love the sweet spirit.  : )
    Blessings,   ~Amelia
