happy birthday, Rich!

I still need to make a birthday cake but I thought I’d sit and post some pictures of what we woke up to this morning:

snow falling on the last day of March, Happy Birthday to my husband!

His brother Jason is here with us this weekend, along with his wife Mary and their four children……I made french toast, sausage, and homefries for breakfast, as the birthday man requested.  Then, while everyone was eating and talking, I slipped away outside to take some pictures of our last snow fall of the season (we hope).

These poor little daffies could hardly hold up their heads because of their heavy, cold hats.

I stood underneath a dark, thickly branched pine tree.  It was dry under there, and peaceful.

Standing under another tree, I thought of Joanna, and her pretty embellishments she has done with some of her nature pictures, the swirls….these branches with their red buds added swirls to this photograph.

Jason is assuring me that it will all look nice when he’s done re-digging our long pond.  This is the project that my husband rented the heavy equipment for.  They are making the pond deeper and adding a jumping/fishing dock at one end.

Rich and his brother, Jason.  Soon this place that they are standing in will be full of water again.

The morning snow has melted and it’s a muddy mess outside at our place.

(Incidently, my boys were all so sad about the loss of their favorite bullfrogs out of this pond as it drained.  Jacob and Ethan spent some time trying to save some by throwing them into the other pond.)

A picture from inside (although I have gone out twice…to the store and then out with Rich as he ran errands for the Project.  He bought me a vanilla chai!)

Their Daddies are brothers and you can tell, huh?  Caleb and Chyanne could be siblings.  They are both six years old.

Mary (my sister in law) is out with some of the girls getting ingredients for dinner.  She generously asked to cook for us tonight, hurray I have the night off!

I do have to go get that cake mixed up though!  Here is another picture of Rich and Seth (that I took yesterday).  Happy Birthday, honey!

Much love to all my friends!  Do take the time to say hello, won’t you?  winky

  1. What a lovely snow fall! I wish we lived somewhere that snowed… I love the snow and cooler weather. We didn’t even get the first hint of a flake this past winter :(Can’t wait to see the pond all completed!!!Happy birthday to Rich!!!!

  2. So cool!!!! The boys will no longer be sad when they are jumping into the bigger, better, deeper “More funner” (as my kids would say) pond!  We did not get snow here, but I felt like I went on the walk with you!  I was all like”Hey that’s me!” when I saw my name there, I was so caught up in your walk that seeing my name shocked me as if I saw it in a novel! LOL!   I get stressed over details, where are they putting all the mud that they are taking out? And how did they drain the pond?  Wish I could have shared that chai with you!

  3. It sounds like the big boys are having fun with the big toys! Time for a big swimming hole! Looks like those muddy clothes need to be hosed off before they are brought inside.Happy birthday Rich!

  4. A very happy birthday to Rich!  How nice that his brother is with you for the weekend.  And that pond work looks like a mess now, but it will be wonderful when it’s done!

  5. Well I am sort of glad your snow melted:) those pretty daffies don’t need cold, heavy hats to weigh them down!A deeper pond!…. How fun that will be in the summer!! I love how rich takes care of you!!…. Happy birthday to him. And much love to you:)

  6. The pictures you captured of the spring snow are just breathtaking Shanda! I especially love the one of the snowy branches reaching down toward the water.Sounds like you have a very busy day, but the nice kind of busy that involves friends and family and good food 🙂 Happy Birthday to Rich!

  7. Oh I was also going to tell you that my boys love your website! I tell them all about your property and the stories about the children… they love hearing about all your adventures 🙂 The can hardly believe there are places in the world where snow comes in March and people have ponds and rivers on their property 😉 Poor California boys!ps~ they also love the piggy cursor. Big hit!

  8. happy birthday to Rich! the new pond sounds like it’ll be awesome.. we woke to snow this morning too. it’s now turned to a drizzly rain. makes for a sunday, lazy kind of afternoon. 🙂

  9. well, if it would have snowed this morning, I would have had to laugh since it’s April Fool’s Day – not that we celebrate that, but do like to play jokes on each other. Ya know, it can snow even in May up north here ;)I think it was two yrs ago we had snow in April.. so far we’ve not had much snow at all :)My kids love the pig cursor too 🙂 They think that’s so cool.I love your nature photos – such vibrant rich color in each. Ohh, I do love chai teas latte’s! How thoughtful of Rich – and on his birthday yet – hope he had a blessed day too.

  10. Stopping by to say hello! It’s been too long.  I always love your posts, even when I don’t take the time to comment. I loved your snow pictures, however, I’m glad that we didn’t get any snow! And I ALMOST wish we had a pond… But not quite.

  11. Hi Shanda,You don’t know me but I follow your post all the time. I love how down to earth you are and I thank you for sharing your life with us. I get so much inspiration from you! Also, love how you throw little recipes out now and then. I actually made your pancakes (with the cornmeal). My kids loved them!Amber

  12. Beautiful photos, as usual! I love the daffodils in the snow. They are one of my favorite flowers and I finally got some planted at the sides of my garage this year.

  13. The picture with the swirly branches and the red buds is the prettiest photo I’ve ever seen. I’ve set it as my desktop background…I hope you don’t mind. Happy Birthday to your husband. He has the best gift of all in you!

  14. What a manly, man project for Riches Birthday! The new bigger, deeper pond sounds amazing. Happy Birthday to Rich!! Your swirly picture is very beautiful. I love the red tips, branches, and red building…is that the chicken coop? I liked seeing the frosty daffodils too Those two certainly could be twins. How fun is that? Sound like a wonderful weekend.
