thankful for another year

8:00 on a Sunday morning.

It’s my birthday today.

As I receive my breakfast from my husband,  (egg sandwich)

and gifts from him, (a kindle touch)

smiles from teenage boys,

hugs from little ones,

chatter from my 12 year old daughter,

I remember

just a few months ago

in the darkness of senseless depression

I wanted to give up

however………..

God has been as faithful as ever and led through the dark days

“I shall not die but declare the glory of God”

today I turn 36

and I’m touched again by the brightness of living

my children all around me

the love of my husband who said to me yesterday

“what would I do without you”

the love of friends

(I spent time with 6 of them last night)

life is a good gift

GOD is great.

Thank you for another year.

my absolute favorite hymn:

All the way my Savior leads me;
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my guide?
Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well;
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.

All the way my Savior leads me,
Cheers each winding path I tread;
Gives me grace for every trial,
Feeds me with the living bread.
Though my weary steps may falter,
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see;
Gushing from the rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see.

All the way my Savior leads me
O the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day
This my song through endless ages—
Jesus led me all the way;
This my song through endless ages—
Jesus led me all the way.

  1. Happy Birthday! Enjoy the Kindle. Nothing will ever replace holding a paper hard copy in hand, but the portability and availability over free things to read is wonderful in a different way.

  2. Dear, dear Shanda- Happy Birthday!! I am so glad for the brightness of this morning dawning –not only in our world, but in your heart. And I love your hymn. It is one that was sung by our congregation the Sunday after I lost a 20 week pregnancy– a little boy. Sung acapella, around 200 voices, in traditional Mennonite style, the four part harmony wrapped itself around my heart, and it was comforting and strengthening and reassuring– and has been a life-light ever since. Thank you for sharing it here this morning, because I really needed the reminder! I hope your day is filled with little surprises and much joy, all day long. Love you!
