home again, home again, dancing a jig

These are dehydrated mealworms.  The chickens love them, I give them as treats.  You should see how fast their beaks grab them up out of my palms.

The light brown chicken is shy, and I’m happy for her when she gets brave enough to come get some treats for herself.

This is Snickers.  He has pretty eyes.

This is Socks.  He has a very loud purr and sleeps at the end of our bed every night.

This is Ethan and Grace getting off the bus this afternoon.

I didn’t get a snapshot of Jacob because he got off the bus first and was too quick for me.

Ethan brought home a shelf that he made in industrial tech.  I’m proud of him!

He put his initials on the back, why did that make me teary eyed to see?

This is something we can hang on the wall and it will still be here in the years to come, even when Ethan is grown and gone.

I have a little peg/key rack that Rich made when he was in shop class as a young boy, too.

Seth woke up from his nap and came outside with us.

It’s in the mid 50’s today, a quite nice first day of February.

Seth’s third birthday is tomorrow.

Little Sarah Joy woke up from her nap.  She was scarlet,  like a fiesta disc pitcher.

(The dress used to be Grace’s!)

Caleb arrived home again, home again, jiggety jog.

And last but not least, Davy-do!

The noise these two make as they play memory reminds me of the wild monkey-filled jungle.  Hoots and hollers, loud yells and laughing, groans, moans, goofing around, crazy singing, on and on until the rest of us yell, “Please!  Be QUIET!”

Ethan always wins by a lot.  He has an amazing memory.

I met a friend at the library this morning for some play time with our little ones.  Her name is Kelly, and she has four grown children; she brought two of her grandchildren.  I didn’t know her very well, and I felt shy, but we had a nice visit.  She is a lady from the new church we joined.

Rich is working late tonight so I’m not making a big dinner, maybe just some grilled cheese sandwiches.

I have this mother goose poem stuck in my head:

To market, to market, to buy a fat pig;
   Home again, home again, dancing a jig.
To market, to market, to buy a fat hog;
   Home again, home again, jiggety-jog.

How’s your day going so far, friends?

You are loved.  ((hugs))

  1. love love love it all.glad to be introduced to your kitties, they are sooo beautiful. i know Grace loves them. such beautiful and strange weather we’re haing wonder what the ground hogs will tell us tomorrow (though i don’t put much faith in it)

  2. I feel like I’ve just been there, Girly!  Ethan’s woodwork is beautiful! That plaid jacket looks so pretty on Grace! My grandgirl Grace is celebrating her 6th birthday today. Her mommy is the one who introduced me to your blog!  And I’m so thankful for that. I love to see how all of your treasures have grown and what you’re doing in the everyday normal life. I hope tomorrow is just as heart-warming!

  3. We used to buy worms and such for a big pet lizard. The chickens looks so healthy. Happy seeing everyone come home. Great job on the woodwork Ethan! I am so happy when things have names and initials on them. I looked at a favorite pottery bud vase the other day, and I don’t know who made it…though probably David. Grace’s jacket looks wonderful on her. I had a green plaid one like that in High School and remember liking it so much. Hugs all around. I wish I lived next door to you! I saw a card that said “In my imaginary world I live next door to you”, and thought of YOU!!

  4. Hmmm, now after reading this I will have that in my head for the rest of the day!Jeff is working late tonight too, so we’re going to have blueberry pancakes.Grace looks so pretty in her jacket. I love it.Ethan did a wonderful job on the shelf…I understand how you could tear up.Love the scarlett pitcher. =)Happy Wednesday to you.

  5. hi shanda…….hard to believe all your snow melted!  it was in the 50’s here yesterday and lots of our snow is gone, too.  our front yard faces south, so pretty much all that snow is gone, but our backyard gets more shade and faces north, so we have patches of green grass with patches of snow left.  looks like your day was a good one.  ours was okay.  i had school with my older one this morning, but my little guy is on his second day of a fever and a cough.  can’t complain though; it’s the first illness of the season.  he’s been getting homemade chicken broth, oranges, elderberry syrup, and of course lots of love.  we all spent the afternoon hanging out on the couch watching mindless tv and playing some cards.  tonight, my husband is at a boy scout meeting, my little guy is sleeping, and my older one is reading until bedtime at 9:00.  that’s my day; thanks for sharing yours!

  6. That coat of Graces is a cute one!My day’s been up and down, in fact this week has kinda been like that. God seems to be drilling into me though to count it all joy with the message on Sunday and Bible study tonight :)It’s nice and warm here…70 tonight. It sure seems like it’s almost like spring time 🙂

  7. Awww. You reminded me that my daddy used to say that when we would be in the car and ask him where we were going. “Home again, home again, jiggedy jig.” :)Love all your pictures!! Love catching glimpses of your family.
