with the older children

bookstore buddies

Rest assured, if you are a mama of preschoolers, I can tell you that there WILL come a day when you can take your children with you to the bookstore and relax with them over books.

Don’t let anyone give you the idea that teens are difficult because it’s just not true.  These lovely older children can wipe their own noses and can wander around without getting lost.  Odds are they WON’T spill their hot chocolate.  They don’t need you to take them potty, they can talk to you in a mature fashion, and they won’t pull books off the shelf just to throw them on the floor.  On top of all that, they’re just as cute as their preschool siblings!

Recently, I was tired, I needed some R n’ R, I needed quiet, I wanted to be AT THE BOOKSTORE.

(one of my favorite places to be, you see)

What I needed, too, were some comfortable, *tried and true* friends to come along.

Happily, but not surprisingly, Jacob, Ethan, and Grace were more than willing to make the trip.

(it’s one of their favorite places to be, too)

While we were there, we had deliciously creamy hot chocolate and nobody spilled.

The boys quietly wandered around and looked at books together, while Grace stuck by me and chattered.

We sat, all cozy, at little round tables to enjoy our books and magazines.

I didn’t read a thing to them, but daughter Grace read to me.

And, although I tried to wipe a few noses, no one would let me.

  1. It’s nice to hear that older children are just as fun, it seems everyone is always telling me, “just wait till they are teenagers” So thanks for sharing how fun the older children are!

  2. I don’t have children, but I love to go to Barnes & Noble with my husband. We went last Saturday and shared a yummy sandwich and we each got coffee, he regular, and I got the salty caramel Mocha..nice and hot! My husband brings his laptop and I roam around looking at books and magazines. We meet up at one of those little tables and just relax! Great times.

  3. Aw. Love this. I am one for enjoying every stage my kids are in. And I can’t wait for teenagers. 🙂 I am really enjoying the big kid phase too. Love that you said you tried to wipe noses and no one would let you. 😉

  4. Although we are a few year from having a teenager I’m loving as the kids get bigger and fun to hang out with as friends and enjoying their company…a new step in the journey!Looks like a wonderful way to relax.Happy Tuesday

  5. I am enjoying my children getting older.  Like you said, you were taking along friends. =)And the bookstore! Oh what a fun place to be.Funny they didn’t let you wipe their noses. ;)Hope you’re enjoying your week so far.

  6. Such a lovely post! I’m terrified of how our son will be as a teenager…. both his father and I were, well, NOT ideal teens. Think of that crowd you don’t want your kids to even look at… you know, the ones covered in tattoos and piercings, smoking cigarettes and cussing, wearing the black clothes and have the strange pink and blue hair colors… yeah, that was us. And I gave my parents a good many scares and concerns during that phase. I’m doomed with what my son will turn out during his teenage years…I just know it! Pay back will be awful!Your kids look so mature and mannerly. Were you a good teenager?

  7. Such a sweet post. I think I say that about all your posts. Hahaa!! I guess you’re just a super sweet person! I love reading about the friendships you have with your children!! LOVE it! 🙂 Bookstores are one of my favorite places to be too. Especially a Barnes & Noble, but we have to drive an hour to get to one of those. So our little Books A Million is usually where we end up.
