copying out their verses

at the table

This morning the children sat around the table together, to copy out verses.

The Bible is life, the actual Word of God, spoken through the printed pages.

Just as we need to eat food for our bodies, we need to read the Word for our souls.

“I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.”  Job 23:12

Davy's verses

“More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold:  sweeter also than the honey and the honeycomb.”  Psalm 19:10

“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the world, that ye may grow thereby.”  1 Peter 2:2

Grace's verses

“God be for ever praised in heaven above, that these words are thus recorded, for more than a thousand times I have felt in my heart that they are true.”  ~Elizabeth of Brandenburg

Ethan's verses

“The word of the Lord endureth forever.”  1 Peter 1:25

“I am perfectly satisfied myself to believe what he writes to me; and if it be so written
in his Book, it seems to me to be quite as true and sure as if he had actually come
from heaven, and had talked with me, or had appeared to me in the visions of the
night.”  ~Charles Spurgeon

“Within the Scripture there is a balm for every wound, a salve for every sore.” ~Spurgeon

Jacob's verses

Personally, when I have been in trouble, I have read the Bible until a text has seemed to stand out of the Book, and salute me, saying, “I was written specially for you.”  ~Spurgeon

  1. What a wonderful thing to do!! I’ve done it myself….but why haven’t I thought to have my kids do it??? Thanks for sharing!!! Hope you are doing well! Your family is just growing right along beautifully!!!

  2. Most profitable. I’m impressed by the penmanship as well. Good to proofread too. What’s that 1 Peter 2:2 quote? The Essenes of the Qumran community would have to start over with a fresh parchment. I like the phrase, “A day hemmed in prayer seldom unravels.” I find release of all fruitless thoughts when thinking of the grace and truth verses, Jn 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” and Jn 1:17 “For the law was given by Moses, [but] grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” There’s no such thing as “brutally honest” with Jesus.I miss you guys…think of you frequently…tear up seeing all the love and the loved ones.I made more pumpkin pies this year than ever before, and I’m not done yet. We still have 2 big pumpkins left. Inspired by a book devoted to pumpkin recipes, David and I had our second dinner of pumpkin stew this evening (even plunked it atop a fresh green salad). When Nick and Alicia joined us for Thanksgiving, we made pumpkin pancakes topped with freshly made peach compote and real maple yumminess. God is wonderful in His oppulent provision of amazing tastes. My love and hugs to all, including Rich.
