After snowing all day Saturday and losing electricity, this was the amazing world we awoke to on Sunday morning;
All of the trees were leaning over under the heavy weight of their new snow white coats.
So gorgeous! We were stunned by the amount of snow and damage caused by the storm, but the beauty took my breath away…….
I stood on the front porch of the house in my slippers as I took these pictures.
When the sun started shining it was even more lovely,
Our good neighbor came and made short work of Rich and the boy’s shoveling job.
Later on that day, I ventured out to take some pictures. I couldn’t believe my eyes. All our fine, tall, trees, were leaning so far over. These yellows are supposed to be straight up.
The trees next to the chicken yard are bent over the fence.
The children’s “bird forest” is also very tired looking. It is so bizarre to see!
And this pretty stand of trees on the far corner of the chicken coop is almost flattened by all the heavy snow fall. I am anxious to see how they recover.
A branch that we pass under everyday to get to the dog house is broken off. I’ll miss it. The children used to perch up there.
Some snow people decided to pick our lawn chairs to sit in, and rest a while.
Davy was desperate to go sledding.
Broken tree at the top of the driveway. Grace was just climbing this tree the other day.
We lost electricity (there are trees on power lines all over the place) on Saturday afternoon; no power means no water, no cooking, no heat.
This is what all of our area roads looked like on Saturday. A mess. There were a lot of trees and branches on power lines, which is why we think it will take a while to have our power restored.
We stayed put for a day, but left the house on a cold (too cold for the little ones) Sunday evening, and are waiting now for the electric to get turned back on. We think the storm caused so much damage because a lot of the trees still had leaves on them.
Six of the children are at their wonderful Grandma’s house in NY. I am here at a hotel with Rich and Sarah. We plan on heading back home today to check on the animals. It’s been hard finding hotels to stay in.
Hope my friends are doing well. Much love~

wow. it really looks beautiful, despite the inconveniences it brings. hope your power comes back on soon, but that your time at Grandma’s is sweet!
I have been thinking of you and praying for you all. I figured the power was out! Hope all is well. Quite something to see everything so covered with the snow!!
Hope you are in a warm comfortable place.been wondering if you were snowed in! Looks like Narnia – so beautiful.
Those first few pictures look like a winter wonderland. I’m glad that you are in a warm place. I have been thinking about you guys – figuring from the news that you were out of electric. Our electric went out sometime during the night on Saturday night/Sunday morning, and came back about 8:00 Sunday night. We were glad for our generator.
I have been wondering if this big storm affected you and your family! Your pictures are so beautiful yet I am sorry for all of the damage and loss of electricity! We’ve been sitting around the computer enjoying your blog music while looking at your pictures! Praying things resume to normal very soon!
I wondered about you when I heard the news of all the snow up there. Your pictures are absolutely beautiful, in spite of the dangers and inconveniences y’all are going through. And by the way, it was 70 degrees here today and sunny, truly the “sunny south”!
Ahhh! I told my husband, “Look at these pictures. Isn’t it gorgeous?” His response was a squawk. Somehow he hasn’t figured out the wonders of being snowed in…
I have to giggle a little – as we just turned on our AC tonight here way south. beautiful winter land u have
Oh, my goodness — how beautiful, but how destructive the snow is. I hope the power comes on soon!
beautiful snow…snow hasn’t hit Germany yet…but it isn’t far away, probably…
As beautiful as it looks, those kinds of storms are so destructive! Hope your trees recover, and your power gets back on soon!
It does look like a winter wonderland…… if ya like snow n cold that is 😉 I can’t seem to warm up at all during the long cold winter months 😦 Hope you all were able to stay warm and safe.
Each season has it’s beauty. And a fresh coating of that beautiful snow just makes my heart soar. Thanks for showing these pictures. I grew up where we used to get snow most every winter, but now I live in the south. The few times I can see snow I just want to go stand in it and let it come down in my face. Love your blog!
Very beautiful, but I know it will probably mean lots of clean-up ~ may the Lord be with you ~
Amazing pictures! I didn’t know you got so much snow…I don’t watch the news 🙂 What beautiful whiteness though and makes me think of “Whiter than snow”. Blessings on your day!!! Hope things are going. Thank you for being so transparent in previous posts. I have been struggling myself. And I am so hard on myself also. Prayers and hugs! ~Erin PS Do you have a facebook page that you wouldn’t mind me “friending” you? If you would like to friend me my facebook name is Erin Tucker Young in Michigan. 🙂
Wow! Look at allllll that snow! Although I’m sorry you had some damage and no power, I”m glad that everyone was safe! I hope we get some snow this year! (Though I’m wayyyy down here in GA so maybe, just maybe, in December at earliest we will get a pretty dusting, haha) Stay safe and warm!
We, too were without electicity for 24 hours this past weekend. Lots of trees are broken due to the heavy snow on the leaves. So sad to see mature trees split down the middle. Can’t believe we had that much snow in October!!
Been wondering about you. Our daughter and family had been in WV over the weekend and on their way home yesterday, got a call that there was no electric at their place near the Hudson. They detoured on up here and are staying with her inlaws until the electricity is restored. Crazy! Anyway….they are coming here for dinner this afternoon. An unexpected treat! We had one of those early October storms a few years ago. It did major damage to our trees. They are finally beginning to come back to some sort of normal.Your photos are amazing…but wow. Those poor trees.:(Happy November!D xo
How Beautiful. I still can’t believe what an early snowstorm you had.I am hoping we see one at the end of this month…after our Christmas tree is put up. =)Hopefully all is well back at the homestead, power is restored and the animals are all fine and dandy.Happy Tuesday.
hi shanda…….i was thinking of you and your family over the weekend, wondering if you were affected. i guess you were! hope you get power back soon and can all be reunited once again. how blessed you are to have a wonderful place like grandma’s for your children to go to, though. and those first photos of your trees covered in snow are amazing!!
i received your sweet card yesterday just as i was about to frost my “fall harvest cake”. it was a shanda-filled day! i printed that recipe so long ago and finally made it with my boys. everyone loves it – so moist and yummy. what on earth took me so long to make it?
Gorgeous pictures!!!!!! Glad you’re all safe and hope you get your power back soon!!
Sorry for the trouble the storm caused, but still, it IS quite beautiful.
Your yard looked like a winter wonderland. So pretty-that word just doesn’t do it justice.Hope your power is back on by now and things are getting back to normal!
enjoyed your snow pics…after 6 yrs in MT and now back in OK…I’ll think I’ll be happy for a while just looking at others pics of snow! Hope most of those beautiful trees recover and hope you are getting life back to “normal”!
Oh, my goodness! What a shock, to have this in October! Hope you’re all back home in your own warm house by now!
Beautiful!! But yes, I can imagine a lot of damage! An early snow and the leaves still on the trees!
I’m so sorry that you guys have such a mess. I hope that the power is restored soon so that you can get home again. I’ve got family that is still w/o power too. The trees really are pretty. I laughed at the chairs. Looks like a couple of snow people sat down to rest a bit. I hope that you are getting some rest in during this time.
We just had our 1st snow here in AK on Monday. My sister, who lives in PA, had snow on Friday – I had to laugh at that!
Wow! Incredible! I’ve said it before and I will say it again, I SO wish I could come visit you. The photos of the area surrounding your house are insanely gorgeous. I would go nuts with my camera. Not to mention it’s just way too easy to fall in love with your adorable family. Stay safe!
WOW!!! it is hard to imagine that it’s this time of the year already!!!
