In my humble opinion, the best time to take a one year old to the beach is at the end of the day.  The burning sun is down, the sand is cool, and the hundreds of sun bathers have gone on home.

Rich and I had such fun watching our doll baby walk around in her beautiful dress and tiny pink shoes.

I stood at the edge of the ocean with her and the waves came in, got our feet wet, and then when the water went  rushing back into the ocean Sarah would lose her balance and tip backwards every time….I held her little hand to keep her up.

Sarah had a great time scratching up tiny clumps of wet sand to give to mama.

Rich took these with his phone.

She was yelling at those big white birds!  (seagulls)

Dear Dawn,

Thank you so much for the pretty dress you made for our sweet girl.  Rich specifically wanted me to tell you that he loves it, and he kept saying all day long that Sarah looked so pretty in it.  You know how I like the Eloise Wilkin illustrations…well, I think Sarah looks like a picture right out of her books in this dress.

Love, Shan

  1. Sweet girlie, sweet dress!Looks like she enjoyed being the center of Mom & Dad’s attention.Glad you got to spend a relaxing, refreshing long week-end together.

  2. When the first picture loaded I thought right away that it was a “Dawn dress” I love how vintage it looks even the fabric is so so perfect!  Did you have a good trip?  Sorry I missed your call I am hoping to be able to call today!Hope you have a great day!

  3. ahhh!! she’s darling. and you quoting anne reminds me of the scene in the movie where matthew goes into the store to buy the dress for her, and he can’t say… “one with pu.. puffed sleeves.” such a great movie.love the daddy/girly shots.

  4. I also love those books and agree that your Sarah looks like the little girl right out of the book… how precious! I love Anne of Green Gables…. sigh… you have made me feel incredibly nostalgic.

  5. Oh Shanda, she looks so sweet in her beautiful smocked, puffy sleeve dress and pink clogs. I am glad she enjoyed the beach this time! My favorite pictures are the ones from the back and side showing her dear little neck and wispy curls, I always found those little necks so kissable

  6. Shanda~ I’ve been keeping up with all your posts but cannot always comment as I am often reading while nursing dear Rosie. I love the pictures and the advice. We are headed to the lake this next week…just Rosie, Me and Papa โ™ฅ Sarah’s dress is beautiful — so is Sarah~ Her feet look so very teeny tiny — precious! Can I just say I love your skirt!! May I ask where you got it? It looks so very comfortable.~Cinnamon

  7. @Cinnamon – It’s so good to hear from you Cinnamon!  It’s wonderful that you are getting away with your husband  and  baby.  I’ll be praying that you are able to rest and enjoy each other.  I  bought my skirt at Old Navy, and I am pretty sure they still carry it.  You’re right, it is very comfortable and (also) flattering to to the mama’s after-baby(ies) body.  The waist folds down and doesn’t feel tight at all.  Hope you can find it in your area!  Much love to you~
