We got a house for the weekend in Cooperstown, NY. It worked out great, the house was big and spacious. The lawn was pretty, with lots of big trees. The children love to climb trees, and there was also an apple tree. The apples were still half green, but the kids loved picking and eating them.
We met my parents at the Farmer’s Museum in Cooperstown on Saturday morning. We enjoyed visiting the museum, with the old things to see, and also animals and the working village with a store, blacksmith, print shop, barn, and so on.
Aren’t the homemade brooms nice? I get inspired by things like this.
I love this picture of Sarah walking into her Grandpa’s arms.
This was a sign in the Blacksmith shop: “When you are the anvil, bear. When you are the hammer, strike.”
I liked the way they used old fence posts to surround this small garden of zinnias. It’s so pretty against the stone foundation and the outside of the barn walls.
After the museum, Mom and Dad came to our house and visited before leaving again for home.

Rich and I shared a delicious bagel for breakfast on Sunday morning. It was a toasted bagel, with cream cheese and thinly sliced tomato on top of each half, with a few grinds of fresh black pepper. Try it! It’s so good. I made myself one for breakfast this morning. (While looking at the September issue of Country Living, did you see page 22? Fiestaware!)
I didn’t get very many photos of the Baseball Hall of Fame, which was what we did on Sunday. Cooperstown is such a beautiful town! I highly recommend a visit, if you can.
On the way back home yesterday, I played with my phone on the way home and made these pictures using a new app called “Halftone”. Fun!
This one is made with an older photo of the little ones at the library.
Happy Monday to you!

That looks like a wonderful get-away.
I like the anvil quote too. I like the comic book templates you used! Awesome! π
looks like a lovely time away.yes!!! to the Country Living September issue…and, when i saw the fiesta ware, i had to think of you! that bagel? sounds scrumptious, thanks for the idea, definitely have to try that here!
Looks like a great & relaxing weekend away:)
ohhhh i love that app you are using. so much fun!! especially the comic book pictures. that picture of the pig is sooo adorable, i know you have a love for pigs too…so i’m always excited to see one! thanks for sharing with us your wonderful journey. how did you manage to rent a house for a weekend, did you know someone who would be away or they have somewhere you can do this? i’m intrigued…
fun pictures! love the one of sarah walking to her grandpa too~ my parents are coming in tonight and i can’t wait. :)have a great week, shanda!
Shanda I love the picture of the brooms through the old window. What a great shot! And the pig up over the fence… that one made me laugh And the picture of Rich with the caption on it is hysterical!! Are all husbands that way? I know mine is.Isn’t it amazing, to see the things that people used to make with their own hands? If they needed something they figured out a way to make it. I so admire those carefully handcrafted items. I’m happy you got to have a relaxing weekend with your parents! Enjoy these last days of summer my friend π
Looks like a lovely get away! Glad u got to have your hubby there too!
Looks like a lovely time! Weekends spent with family are so lovely, and the memories carried away from them are just as lovely! The shots you got from the old homestead are so pretty! And oh my goodness, I’m getting a kick out of my cursor being a little pig on your page!!
What a nice get a way, and having your parents come and be a part of it. Must be so much easier with the family to rent a house like that! Great idea. The pig is so funny!
wonderful!! look like a nice weekend. π
hi shanda…….looks like such a fun little getaway for your family. on saturday we went to a nearby historical site called “old world wisconsin” which is a living museum from the late 1800’s – sounds similar to your farmer’s museum! and on sunday i took along the “country living” magazine when we went out on our boat. and yes, i thought of you when i was on p. 22! i thought the cream & sugar thing was so cute on it’s own little platter/plate. that library table idea on p.61 is too clever – and the clam and pesto pizza will definitely be on our rotation for homemade pizza night . i just love that magazine! the one thing about our weekend that wasn’t similar was your fun photos using your app. you are way more technologically advanced than i am!!!
I thought of you when I saw the Fiesta in my Country Living last evening. π Looks like a wonderful weekend full of memories! ~Maria
What a lovely weekend. How fun!!!I got my Country Living in the mail over the weekend….this afternoon I will be looking through it. I can’t wait. I like all your photos too….going to old historic houses always makes me want to come home, clean and redecorate something. haha.Happy Tuesday to you. =)
