in my need

DSC_2464

As it often happens, the Lord has so graciously used a trial (a small one, that unfortunately seemed so overwhelmingly large because of it’s very sad nature, an argument with a loved one), to pull me once again into His loving Word. I have just spent a cozy time with my Bible, Eyes Of Wonder’s blog, journal, and the ever-ready yellow pencil. Reading, praying, opening my heart up, receiving, repenting, and recording.

The old hymn, “Sinking Sand”, has been on my mind, and I had Grace, with her sweet voice, sing it with me.

“When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay.” Edward Mote, hymnwriter

“In learning again and again and again, to an always greater degree and sometimes by error and regret, to press into Him, leaning my head upon His breast, because He is love and He loves me.”. Jewels, Eyes of Wonder blog

I copied these verses from her site, too:

“Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples whom Jesus loved.” John 13:23

Whoso leaneth on the Lord, happy is he. Pr. 16:20

“With Jesus, if we want to gain, we must give up. If we want to be filled, we must deny ourselves. If we want to truly get close to God, we’ll have to distance ourselves from other things. If we want to conquer our cravings, we’ll have to redirect them to God. God made us capable of craving so we’d have an unquenchable desire for more of Him, and Him alone.”
From Made to Crave, by Lysa Terkeurst

So, instead of feeling shame in my neediness, I embrace Christ as the One Who can, will, and does supply my every heart and soul need.

  1. Thanks for this! When you mentioned the word “shame”, it made me think of something I learned in the ‘Breaking Free’ study from Beth Moore…”Shame is Satan’s mark of approval”. That ALWAYS reminds me that when I am feeling shame, I am giving the wrong person glory. Praying that you feel hope, peace, strength, rest and joy very, very soon!

  2. Thank you for posting this…alot of us have “been there”.  Just don’t let yourself get stuck in the pit of guilt (and shame!) because you’ve done what you should do and now put it behind you. Then don’t let the devil bring it up again like a sour meal comes back up into your throat. I’m dealing with not letting him keep me angry at my neighbor for being a rat, and thinking of her being a rat!!!  ) 8    Life is a constant learning experience. Grip onto the joy!

  3. yes… God always knows what He is doing and its through the trials that we become more intimate with Him. He is dealing with my heart about some things and I long to dive into His Word too…just pouring my heart out before Him.. 🙂 hugs

  4. hi shanda…….beautiful to read.  thank you for sharing your vulnerability.  we have all been there, and you gave a wonderful model for all of us to learn from.  you know you have been forgiven, my friend.  hugs to you.

Jewels, Eyes of Wonder blogSo true and so beautiful, I can relate and have felt that way more often than not this year.
