cake

I’m sitting on the couch on this Wednesday morning, after a wild night with poor Seth.  He was fine all day yesterday but woke up about an hour after he fell asleep at bedtime, burning with a fever and crying out “Oh no!” and “Oh my!”.  (I echoed his sentiments.)  It took a long time to settle him down and for the medicine to kick in.  (Also, Rich is away on business).  Thankfully, Seth is still asleep now, so I thought I’d take a few minutes to put up Sarah’s birthday cake pictures.  Caleb is next to me reading Garfield comics, Jake and Grace are watching the History channel and Sarah is crawling around, playing.

We got a pretty paper table cloth and some paper places and napkins at the party store.  I also got some streamers and balloons to decorate the table for Baby’s First Birthday.

We picked up the cake at a bakery; chocolate raspberry.

I like this next picture because of Sarah’s little hands and feet;

She liked the pretty cake and was so funny about getting really close but not touching it.

And she finally gets brave enough to gently touch “whatever it is” (she still had no clue)…..

Daddy put frosting on her finger…

She wasn’t impressed at all.

Wondering.

“Here, try some!”

No.

She makes this funny face whenever she doesn’t want *whatever it is* we are trying to feed her.

She felt much better in her “eating spot” (and probably finally understood that the cake was edible) and I fed her all her cake and ice cream.  She’s had cake before, but never so much in one sitting.  She liked the ice cream much better than the cake.  Delicious!

I took this picture just this morning.  I wanted to show you what Sarah does now.  She gets Very Daring and climbs (slowly and carefully) up on the bricks of the fireplace.  And there she sits until rescued.  Then, back she goes.  It’s her Favorite Spot These Days.

She is not walking yet, and has no teeth.  She is the latest tooth cutter of all seven.  This may be too much information, but I’m really proud of myself because I’m still nursing her…..and the fact that she is toothless definitely has something to do with it.

  1. Not to much information at all! I nursed my last one so very long that we finally traded a play kitchen for “nursie.” And that may have been too long, but I had the whole family feeling sorry for her when I tried to wean her earlier. It wasn’t more than just bedtime for a long time, but it insured that I had some time in my busy life for my littlest chickie. There were so many older siblings that wanted to hold her, play with her and would have done everything for her that they possibly could, and I wanted something that would require me to hold her and interact with her even when the dishes weren’t done, the laundry wasn’t finished, and the floor needed swept. So just enjoy these days, sweetie. They will never come back to you except when you remember . . .

  2. Happy 1st Birthday to Sara!Nope, not too much info for me either!I’m with Buckeyegirlie, someday it’ll all be sweet memories. My girls were young teethers and I nursed them till past a year old.A few loud ouches from me taught them that I was not a teething toy!

  3. My daughter, J, did not cut any teeth until 14 mos. Then they all came in at once! She was miserable!!Hope it goes better for Sarah.(I like the hands, feet and cake photo the best!)Happy Wednesday!Hope your little guy feels better soon…D xo

  4. Adorable pictures! The last one is so sweet! I nursed my youngest until 16months old. At 14 months she got the rotovirus and the doctor said the only reason she wasn’t in the hospital was because she was still nursing….So good job mama!!! The mommies milk is so good. Hoping your little guy feels better soon. And isn’t it always the way it goes….daddy is gone and someone gets really sick. I rememeber Gideon had a fever of 104.3 once when Kevin was on a trip and it was the middle of then night and I just didn’t know what to do…Enjoy your littles today! Have a blessed day.

  5. @ErinLynae – That’s so interesting.  God created the perfect food for babies.  Seth and Sarah recently had the stomach bug.  When I took them to the docs he said Sarah wasn’t as bad off as Seth because she was still nursing!

  6. Happy Birthday to Sarah! I can’t believe she is a year old already. Wow.My earliest child to get a tooth was 10 months…otherwise they all got their first tooth around a year.I also nursed all of my babies longer than a year. The world of today has made mothers feel that after a year you shouldn’t be nursing anymore! Silliness!  Nurse that baby!!! =)Hope Seth is feeling better soon.Happy Wednesday to you.

  7. Aw. Happy Birthday to Sarah!! She is just too cute. I love her little face when she didn’t want the cake. And the face she’s making up by the fireplace. She looks so proud of herself for climbing up there. lol. Hope your little man gets better!

  8. What a happy day you had! 🙂 The birthday party looks so intimate and sweet. I think it’s wonderful that you still nurse her!! I think it’s wonderful that you’re able to take the time to sit and be with her like that when you have so many little ones calling your name…. 🙂 There’s never a redo for baby time….make every moment last.

  9. Shanda, I love all her pretty decorations. I love how you had the streamers hanging from the ceiling fan down to the table. I will have to show my Gracie girl that as she is my official table/kitchen decorator I love her little smock. Toooo cute!! She looks to petite and pretty in it.What a pretty *girl* cake Poor Seth~ I bet he likes snuggling up on the couch with Mama~You have a lovely home Shanda….filled with lots of love and children ~Cinnamon
