more and more snow

It’s been snowing all day here.  It’s amazing outside.  More and more snow!

Spot the cat has a routine.  He spends the night inside and then he goes out in the morning.  He stays home and sits on the porch now because he can’t visit the neighbor’s –the snow is too deep.  I took this picture through the window this morning.  He looks like he has powered sugar shaken on top of him.  He doesn’t mind being snowed upon, since he is wearing furs.

(Ethan in black, Jacob in camo.)  Ethan visited the coop and took the chickens their morning water, fed them, and gathered the eggs—two greens, three browns.  Jacob filled up the bird feeder behind the house.  Then they played for a while.

I am so in love with my baby.  As I sit and type this I am watching her sit on the floor wearing leggings, a long sleeved shirt, and a smock that I made.  She is playing with a little book–passing it from one hand to the other, bending it, tasting it, studying it every which way, stopping to hit it on the floor…for some reason it is starting to frustrate her…she’s overwhelming herself.  She’s going bare foot and her toes are so darling.

Ethan took this picture of me and my baby doll earlier this morning, when she was still in her warm blanket sleeper.

I have all the children settling down for quiet time and I just want to say how proud I am of Caleb.  He is in my room on my bed, reading BOB books out loud—AND HE IS READING because I TAUGHT HIM MYSELF.  He is the first of my children that I taught to read.  My heart swells when I hear him sounding out his words.  The whole world of books is opening up to him.

Rich is at work, he texted me and let me know he was feeling some improvement with his head aches/pressure today.  Thank you again for your concern.  I feel like my heart is settling down again after the days of worrying about him.

It’s been a nice morning here.  I hope yours was, too.

Now I am going to snuggle and nurse my little one here on the couch and watch the pretty snow falling.  I’m sure I’ll eat a little ice cream at some point, too. heart

  1. You must feel like you are about to be buried in the snow! :)Your kitty is so beautiful as is your baby girl! :)Yay for teaching your son to read, I taught mine using the Bob books too, I just love those. I am so glad to hear about your husband and that he is feeling better, what an answer to prayer!Have a nice day and stay warm!

  2. Your baby girl is getting so big! I love it when children start reading — and stay reading! I’m not a cat lover but your cat looks so pretty with the snow on his back. The snow has stopped her for now but we are expecting much more before it’s over! — I just hope it’s snow and not that ice the midwest is getting!

  3. I love all the snow, wish we had some of that. Your cat is beautiful, what type of cat is she? The Bob books are fantastic! How precious to see/hear him in your room reading. I was so excited when all my children learned to read. I hope they love books half as much as I do.

  4. I have to say I am glad we are not having snow here. Somehow winter has been very little around here concerning the white stuff. The mountains are covered in snow but here in the valley we have clear roads and have our grass lawns. It’s not growing (LOL) but it is a lawn minus the white stuff. πŸ™‚ I love pictures with snowy landsacapes but I am not a fan of it unless I am skiing down a mountain. πŸ™‚ I grew up in the prairries and I guess I got snowed out. LOLGlad you are having a great day keeping warm inside your lovely home. Be blessed {{{{hugs}}}}}

  5. Well the cold front that everyone is getting just came through here last night here. I keep hoping for snow-even just a few inches to steal from y’all would be fine-but all I’ve seen so far are a few tiny flakes here and there. I’ve never thought about what a cat would do if they were stuck in deep snow…I bet that would be kinda funny πŸ™‚

  6. Shanda, I just read the past three posts. My Gracie said “that looks so fun with all that snow!! I could make sooo many snow forts!” I wish I could send her right over to play. What fun our Grace’s would have Praise the Lord Rich is feeling a bit better. Glad you are too~hugs~ Cinnamon

  7. Hey Shanda…Glad the hubs is feeling better.I made one bib today and cut another. I used some vintage holly hobbie type fabric that has been in the stash for ages. It has little girls AND little boys fishing on it…Now I have an extra bib for our Talyah when she comes to visit. Also finished a little project that 6yo Eliora and I did together for her parents for Valentine’s Day. I will post after they have been given the presents.:)Stay warm up there…we are due for a bunch more snow this afternoon and all through tomorrow.D xo

  8. certainly glad that hubby is feeling better…love the snow pictures…they make me shiver with cold just looking…are you making snow ice cream…been ages since i’ve had any…we just don’t get that much snow here in southern california…lol…excited to hear about the little ones learning to read…you can take yourself so many places and meet so many people just by opening a book…take care and keep warm…>^,,^<

  9. Congrats to both Caleb and you. That is such an accomplishment. Thinking of you with all of your snow, and I have also been thinking about dear Seth constantly creating messes for you to clean up. What a rascal . . . so glad Sarah is a girl! I imagine she will have her hands full some day trying to keep him in line.

  10. I love that picture of your big boys in the snow! Boys can have such fun together outside, no matter the weather. Your weather sounds….frightful? So much snow–but so BEAUTIFUL! We dodged the blizzard-bullet today and only have a few inches of sleet/snow and minor icing. And the power has STAYED ON! Hoorah!

  11. I know that feeling about teaching the kids to read, someone told me that once when Jeff was a baby “Even if you do not homeschool all the way through, give them the gift of reading” it is priceless PRICELESS not only to teach them how to read but to see them catch a love of reading. The Spot picture is funny, just like you said…powdered sugar!

  12. Look at all that snow.  When we lived in MA for a few years I don’t think we got half as much as you guys have.  Should I mention that it was around 60 degrees here today in CA.  I definitely have spring fever, but our winter rainy season will be here again.I remember when my first son started Kind. and I was so nervous to teach him and wondered if he would learn to read, but he did and it was so exciting to hear him sound out the words.

  13. Great job, Caleb!! And great job, Caleb’s Mommy!!  That is my most favorite thing to do, teaching a child to read.  So glad Rich is feeling a little better. πŸ™‚
