snow

I haven’t made much mention of the fluffy, wet, heavy, white stuff that is all over the place outside, drifting clear up to my waist in some spots.

But I thought I would break the silence and share a couple of pictures that I took about half an hour ago.

Jacob and Ethan were shoveling off the roof of the porch.  You see, we got another 20 inches this past week.

We have lived here for 5 years and this is the most snow we’ve gotten.  It is exciting for the children and for *the kid in all of us*, but there also have been some problems with keeping the roads clear and safe for drivers.  The mountains of snow at the ends of roads make it hard to see what’s coming when you want to pull out into traffic.  There have been many accidents caused by the huge piles.  Also, the roofs need to be cleaned off because of the added weight.

I was a little nervous about the boys being up there.  But I figured at 14 years, and (almost) 13 years, they should have enough common sense to be careful.  Rich didn’t tell them to be careful of their bodies, he told them to “BE CAREFUL OF THE ROOF.  SHOVEL DOWN, NOT UP AND NOT SIDEWAYS.”

I stood on the road to take this one.

 A prayer request:

I don’t typically blog on Sundays but I am today because I am trying to give myself something to do to keep my mind off my husband.  He has not been himself lately and he told me yesterday that he’s been having trouble with headaches, pressure in his head that doesn’t go away, fogginess, lack of focus, dizziness…..he finally told me yesterday because  I was upset. I could sense something was not right

We went to church this morning and when we got home, he called the doctor’s office and they told him to go to the E.R. and that is where he is right now.

I personally think it is probably stress related, or maybe a sinus infection.  I hope and pray that is all it is.  But I ask, if you would keep him in your prayers that he will feel better soon?  Rich is not easily discouraged, and it’s hard to see him that way.

Thanks~ and I will try to update when he gets home.  He’s been gone for an hour and a half.

**He’s been gone for four hours now.  He had blood drawn and a cat scan done.  He had an I.V. of fluids for dehydration and oxygen for the headache.  He say he thinks he might be feeling a little better.  No results yet from the blood work or cat scan.  I start to cry now and then but then I get busy doing other things.

** Rich got home at about 6:30.  His tests came out normal –and he has a prescription for antibiotics for a sinus infection.  We will find out in a few days if he has Lyme disease (common for our area)…..thanks so much for praying!  I am so relieved.  We are very thankful it isn’t anything too serious.

  1. Hoping Rich starts to feel better soon. I had something like that with my last cold and it made me feel like I was in such a fog/couldn’t think straight.Random note:: I think that would be so much fun to slide off your roof into the snow πŸ™‚

  2. The snow looks so beautiful and your house in it looks just like a postcard! I’m saying prayers for your husband and for the rest of you, too.

  3. Praise God that the results came out well so far. I will be praying for Rich to heal up. Glad he got the antibiotic and the IV. Give, him lots of love and liquids Love you, dear heart. Your boys are indeed handsome big guys. Glad they can help clear that roof. My boys went and worked for their uncle Spence reroofing his and Mary’s house when they were about that age. They were several stories up a lot of the time, so I told them to be careful…that’s what mom’s do, right?! Love your yellow house in every season. so pretty!! You all take care with all that snow.

  4. You pretty much look out your bedrooms and see snow covering your windows, don’t you? My aunt & uncle lived near Philadelphia and their house had heater coils on the roof to prevent the snow from accumulating. That’s quite a snow storm you have there, little lady! We’re expecting our first winter storm in Oklahoma – only 3″ – 6″ inches and that’s IF it snows next week. Will message you privately about Rich. God Bless ~ xo

  5. Oh Shanda I wish I seen this earlier so I could pray! I am so glad that the CT was normal and I am hoping this is a sinus infection and stress, both of which can cause all of the symptoms you said he had. I will continue to pray for healing. It is truly incredible the amount of snow you guys received!!! WOW! Thanks for sharing the pics, no way I could imagine what that would look like! Get some rest tonight, being worried is such a drain on our bodies, I pray both of you can rest and sleep deeply! K

  6. Shanda, {{{hugs}}} I am praying for Rich to feel better and get some rest in the warmth of his cozy home.I laughed when I read what you wrote about Rich not telling the kids to be careful of their bodies but the roof. The is such a funny guy comment and one my husband would make.I pray you are feeling better and comforted by Rich’s presence there with you~~Cinnamon

  7. Hope he feels better and back to himself soon! The boys are such good helpers! Did they jump off into the snow when they were done? (when i was younger we would push the snow down then slide down into it!) It was fun! Of course I would NEVER let my kids do that now though, haha.

  8. Oh I’m so glad the tests came back normal! And wow that’s an incredible amount of snow! It’s been a long day huh? Hope you get some sweet rest cuddled up to your hubby tonight!

  9. WOW! That is a LOT of snow! So glad to hear Rich is all right. I didn’t pray for him, because I am just now reading this! I hope today he is already feeling much better.

  10. I just read this now. I will be praying for your husband.  Hopefully the sinus infection is all that is wrong. You have a TON of snow!!!  We are going to get a big storm over the next couple of days starting this afternoon. How exciting to have to shovel a roof!  Your boys will have a great story to tell….”Remember that one year we had to shovel the roof…”

  11. Oh Shanda, I know how scary that can be ~ a husband in the ER. So glad to hear the result came back clear. May the God of all peace comfort you and Rick!!!!

  12. Lyme Disease sounds pretty serious to me.  Let us know when the results are in.  Praying for just the sinus infection and a lot of family TLC.  Oh…and I gues the boys got off the roof OK.  Get some more picture s of all the snow.  I know it is a problem, but so beautiful.

  13. Shanda, I didn’t see this until just now and am glad to know Rich will be fine. I know how hard it can be to have one’s husband out of commission! Also, I think stress, right along with diet and lifestyle issues, is becoming recognized more and more as a serious threat to good health. It is so important to be able to take time off work, slow down, and rest. That snow reminds me of our winter here last year! That is really something!

  14. I’m just reading this Monday afternoon, but I wanted to say I’m so happy that Rich’s test results came out as they did. Even if lyme comes back positive, it can be dealt with. Praise the Lord!

  15. Shanda, Check your house for gas leaks if you have them. Does he have exposure to gas lines at work? Josh was being poisoned by leaking propane lines and all his tests were normal. He was getting very sick with the same symptoms and the doctors missed it. We figured it out when they checked his office and found a huge leak! Love the snow pics. Spring is on the way!! Gina
