sarah sunshine

You are my sunshine

my only sunshine.

You make me happy

when skies are gray.

You’ll never know, dear

how much I love you.

Please don’t take my sunshine away.

I took these pictures of Sarah last week after she woke up from a nap one day.  Jacob and I were playing with her, and laughing as we watched her play with her sunshine toy (from Barnes and Noble).  The toy has a tiny bell on the back that makes soft jingling sounds that you can barely hear.  I like it because most children’s toys are too noisy.  This one is just right, plus it’s a happy, bright little thing.  Just like Sarah is, herself.

Today (so far):

I ordered Christmas cards.

I took the children to the dentist.

I went to Crackerbarrel, ran in to pick up a few things from their giftshop.

I went to my friend Kathy’s house to visit.

I baked cookies there while we talked and the children played.

Jacob got sick so we had to come home way earlier than we planned.

My plans for the rest of the day:

I am going to make a pot of chili for dinner.

Read to the children.

Clean up the house.

Drink a cup of coffee.

Hope and pray that no one else gets sick.

Happy Tuesday!  ((hugs))

  1. hi shanda…….when my boys were babies, i picked a special song for each of them that i sang and made special for them.  “you are my sunshine” was for my youngest.  whenever i see or hear that song, i instantly smile!  i just love sarah’s sunshine toy – perfect.  what an accomplished day you’ve had so far.  i hope you all stay healthy, too!

  2. @connie – That song has a special place in my heart, too.  It reminds me of my H.S. best friend, Dana (we used to sing it together in 2 part harmony) and my Grandma (who wrote down and taught me all 3 stanzas).  Glad to make you smile today!

  3. LOVE the toy/teether!  I like how it is wooden and like you said, not as noisy, it has an old timey feel to it.Sorry to hear that Jake is not feeling well, I do hope the other children do not get sick.I would love to be sitting with you drinking coffee!  I need some I have been draaaaaaaaaagging all day!

  4. You have sweet sunshine!  Doesn’t it seem like someone is always sick?  That’s how I feel (as I sit here with horrible sinus pressure that tylenol and sinus medicine isn’t touching.)  Hope Jacob is better soon and that no one else gets sick.  Are you feeling better?  I’m having coffee at this very moment.  Time to finish up some handmade gifts I’ve been working on.  Love ya!

  5. @alaskahannah – I’m just coming out of that same cold you’re talking about.  I felt terrible for days with the worse sinus pressure/headache.  Now I’m coughing.  Halls cough drops are helping but they taste awful.  🙂  I really hope you feel better soon! Love you too!

  6. You are one productive woman!!! I love that little sunshine toy so much! It is just right for little hands to grasp, and I agree the soft sounds are much nicer in toys. Sarah looks like she’s teething! Will is too, he started at 12 weeks (2 whole weeks later than Lee did)!

  7. @angiearmour – teething at 12 wks?? i was just telling shayne today that i think reese might be teething the way she’s been chomping on her lips and fussy.. but then, we both thought maybe she was still too young. we couldn’t remember how old the other kids were. haha! now.. i think my suspicion might be right.

  8. @grace2be – I bet she is – Mother knows! We have pictures of Lee’s two bottom teeth popping through his gums at three months old, but it did seem crazy because some of our friends’ kids didn’t get their first tooth until around 1 year old! Early teething makes for an easier toddlerhood, I think, but a more difficult babyhood. One thing that helps around here is to give them a soft little rag wrapped around a sliver of ice to gnaw on. That is something they manage to grasp, while at such a young age they aren’t able to handle most teething toys for comfort.

  9. She is so stinkin’ cute! That toy sounds wonderful. Our youth group leaders are anxiously the birth of their first child. I will be off to B&N to pick that up for them. I used to sing that song to my almost 15 year old. Goodness where did the time go??
