sister day

A sister is a forever friend.  ~Author Unknown

Today Amanda and I went to the Brimfield Antique Show, with Grace and Sarah.  The picture is of the two girls this morning before we left.  I made Sarah’s headband and dress myself.

It was a beautiful, cool day.  Amanda drove to my house and we all got in my vehicle for a nice ride through the countryside.  We got there just fine, parked, and walked around all excited.

The first thing I noticed was a big tent full of my favorite dishes:  FIESTAWARE.  Just seeing the sign alone was enough to put a spring in my step.

Most of these are pieces from the factory store, called “seconds”, they have slight imperfections which allow the customer to take advantage of rock-bottom prices.  I ended up getting one big beautiful scarlet vase…perfect for Christmas or Valentine’s or Anytime.

Aren’t the colors pretty?

My sister works at Lens Crafters and she was happy to browse around the vintage eye glass booth that we discovered.

I thought of my friend Christie when I saw these older pieces of  Portmeiroion.  These are the dishes that she collects:

All three of us got a stained glass window from houses/buildings in England.  They are heavy and so pretty.  I’ve always wanted to feather my nest with a piece of stained glass.

There were crowds and crowds of people.  We met some friendly folks from Delaware as we ate our lunch.  Baby Sarah was really good, too.  I nursed her once and then she slept the entire time, in the Ergo.  It was a fun, energetic atmosphere, we were thrilled to be a part of such a huge and famous antique show (it has been featured in Country Living magazine).

We dream of getting our Mom, sisters in law, aunts, and cousins to come with us one of these years!

  1. What a DAY !!!! Loved every minute! I came home with my treasures and Jason right away hung my stained glass window in between the window and the storm window on the stairs so this way little children will not break it! The framed crazy quilt is hung in the living room~  and I put the table cloth out and it is amazingly pretty but Isaac would not let me keep it out for fear of stains LOL He said “this is WAY to pretty to use everyday with your KIDS! hahaha guess I will it with the Holidays coming. I loved this day, I will cherris the memories we made forever Love YA

  2. Hi Shanda, Sarah gets cuter every day. I loved the pictures of her in her blue outfit in a previous post. Grace looks so mature and beautiful next to her little sister. Thanks for the Portmeirion pictures. I left all of my dishes in Pittsburgh, and I really miss them.love and hugs, Christie

  3. hi shanda…….oh my, so much to comment on!  love the sisters picture; sarah looks so big already (much to your dismay, i’m sure!)….so jealous of the great buys you find on fiestaware; at the antique stores around here they ask too much and i rarely get to add to my collection….grace is almost as tall as amanda!….love the stained glass windows….love the flower in your hair even more!  what a lovely and memorable day for all of you.

  4. ooh! i’ve seen that featured in CL mag. huge fan of that mag here!! so big in fact that my sisters and i are pulling off a 5 year dream of all going to the Country Living Fair this year in just 2 weeks! can’t wait!!so happy for you and your sister, and now your daughters who are sisters, to have this fun day together!

  5. what a fun day! fiestaware just makes ya happy to look at doesn’t it? and sisters.. seeing sisters together makes me happy too. so glad my girls have one 😉 cause i always wished i did!

  6. I used to have cabinets full of the original Fiesta ware . But I had to leave it behind. I had the newer version too. It is lovely but chips easily. I will settle for the pitchers. My sister used to collect the original ones before she was taken to heaven. But it is a delight for the eye to behold. A rainbow for your table. That antique show would be worth a special trip to go to. I live next to the antique capital of North Carolina. Wilson has people come from a very long way off to visit and shop.

  7. Oh I am so jealous…all that wonderful fiesta!!!  What a fun day. I was out shopping with some of my sisters lastnight, I am so thankful for them.  Hope you all get to go together some year, that would be fun. Do you ever read The Farm Chicks? They are now with CL too.  Here is Serena’s blog ~ http://thefarmchicks.typepad.com/  I have their cookbook and LOVE it!  I haven’t really tried many recipes out of it, I just love reading through it and seeing all the pictures and getting fun ideas. P.S. Can I be a sister that day you all go too?!?!? =)

  8. OHH, I want to go there someday!  It’s on my dream vacation list! It looks like you had such a good time, daughter and sister along. What could be better??!  Love the flower in your hair, just darling! Have a good day caring for your family, Janeen

  9. every time you post on fiestaware, I start to drool… it looks like so much fun (and festive). I need to find me some seconds, I could never afford list price stuff!!It just brightens up the room!!

  10. How fun! The Country Living fair is coming to Atlanta and I would love to go! It’s only about 4 hours but I bet it would be worth the travel don’t you? Looks like you all had a great time! I agree Fiestaware is very beautiful!

  11. I should never ever ever go, or I should say I can never go with my wallet! 🙂  It does look like so so much fun!  Isn’t it wonderful to live so close to your sister?
