croup continues

I have croup and so does Sarah now.  My throat hurts like the dickens and I’m coughing a lot~ all day and all night.  I feel sorry for my baby, but she is brave and happy even though she’s sick.  I took her in to see the doctor this morning (they insisted on seeing her when I called, b/c of her age) and he prescribed some medicine for her which should help with the barking cough.  I think one of the worse things about this with Sarah is that she periodically begins to retch and gets sick all over the place from coughing.  Not very pleasant for either of us.

The best part about this is that it is Saturday.  Rich is home and I get to crash in bed with Sarah-dear.  We have our cold-mist humidifier going, I just ate lunch, I am munching on yummy granola, I have a big jug of ice water near me and also a good book.  My trust laptop is also here, and I plan on snuggling Sarah all afternoon.  I’m not going to get out of bed or leave my room until I want to!  (It probably won’t take long before I get restless and start doing laundry, LOL).

Grace got croup first, THREE WEEKS AGO.  The Lord is keeping me remarkably at peace.

  1. oh my,feel better soon! sounds like the bug going around up here about 3 months ago…. it was terrible (i had blamed it on the vaccines Alaina got but then all the others got it too) I was last to get it. It took forever to go away also.Chicken soup for you tonight?

  2. Hey there sweet friend,We get croup every year in Feb, the coldest month of the year here :-p This is what has helped us. I like your cold mist humidifier idea. We use that too. For breathing trouble with adults or older children a dab on a q-tip, of peppermint oil is wonderful. Put the tip of the q-tip on the very back of your throat. Clears your airways right up. It’s strong so only put a drop on the q-tip to start. For younger ones, we fill a dish 1/2 way with water and put a couple drops of the peppermint oil in it. Close the room up and it helps with breathing. It is very strong so start small then work your way up, as tolerable. Then as soon as we find croup is here, I GOOT the sick child. If I can get it fairly early I can knock it out before it gets worse. The recipe for GOOT is on my blog and you can see all the times we’ve used it successfully, even on wee ones. I am continually amazed at the healing powers God put in garlic! Praying you’ll get lots of rest and little Sarah is feeling better soon~hugs~ Cinnamon

  3. hi shanda…….croup, croup go away, come back…never!  maybe singing that a few times will help?!  i do hope it passes soon.  staying in bed with sarah sounds like good medicine to me, along with cinnamon’s remedy.

  4. I heard of an old time remedy for that incessant barky croupy cough.. If you slather your feet with Vicks Vaporub and then put on some socks it will ease the cough quite a bit.  I was skeptical when I heard this but it actually seems to work.  I hope you and Sarah are feeling better soon.
