Rich called me and said that they were on the way to the ER when Caleb started throwing up…so the paramedics decided to go to other, bigger, city hospital “hot”..turned on the sirens and went as fast as they could.  I’m unclear as to what they did for Caleb, I know he got some oxygen and medicine to open up his air ways, then promptly fell asleep.  He never passed out but he’s been laboring for breath all last night and today, poor boy, and is exhausted.  Now Rich waits with him at the hospital, to see if he gets croupy again after the medicine wears off.  He may be home tonight but he might have to spend the night if he isn’t better.

Meanwhile, Seth is also sick w/the same thing so my friend Caroline went to fill his prescription for us and her husband graciously agreed to go to the hospital to get them later (or tomorrow) when Caleb is released.  Please pray that Seth gets better instead of worse.

I’m weak with relief that Rich was home to take care of us (he just got home yesterday afternoon from his trip).  I am so thankful that the Lord spared me from having to deal with all that on my own (with a toddler, a newborn, and four other children as well)!

Thanks for praying!  I really appreciate it.  Seth is down for a nap now and Sarah is asleep.  I’m full of adrenaline (but oh so tired) so I am going to make some tea and try to settle down with a book, praying all the while for my poor little Caleb……I’ve had sick children now for over a week!  I’m so thankful that they are usually healthy, this has been awful.

  1. Oh my word, I’m so glad you didn’t have to deal with that yourself! They would’ve have been simultaneously treating me for a panic attack! How stressful for you, take it easy, will be praying for you all!

  2. “snippets” from Psalm 91:(2) I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.(5) Thous shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; (6) Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness, nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.(9) Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;(10) There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.(11) For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.(15) He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.Shanda, “pestilence” means any virulent, contagious, or fatal disease. That is a mighty promise from God. Just remember that, and dwell on His words as you find peace in your heart. Rich didn’t come home “accidentally” at the right time, God appointed his arrival so you would not be left to handle everything by yourself.Praise Him for His faithfulness and know you have many in the Body of Christ praying for you this very minute!Love, cher’

  3. I am thankful with you! Thankful the bigger better hospital was available. Thankful for the quick thinking of staff. For Rich being home. For the help of your friends. That you can sit with your cup of tea and hopefully rest. Will continue to pray.

  4. Will be praying! It’s awful having sick children! Time seems to go on forever until they get better… Hope the medicine will help them snap right out of it!

  5. My Joy had croup when she was a baby, never as bad as Caleb, but oh, I still remember the terror I felt watching her labor for breath, and wishing with all my might I could make it easier. It’s the worst kind of helplessness. Praying for you and your littles! Praise God Rich was home in time for this … seeing God’s hand at work even in this time of trial.

  6. Bless you!  It is so very hard when our children are sick- especially when you have so many to care for.  I pray for health and healing for your family and rest, peace, and comfort for you.

  7. My sympathies!  Sickness is not fun!!  I remember a night time trip in an ambulance with Isaac because of Croup.  He used to get it frequently when he was younger.  Praying for you, and PTL your husband was home too.
