new wheels

We used to have a double stroller when Jacob, Ethan, and Grace were all preschoolers.  I used that thing so much that we wore it out.  I got rid of it and didn’t replace it because by that time we were spacing our babies out.  By the time the next baby came along, the old baby was old enough to walk with Mama.

Well, here we are:  Jacob is 13, Ethan is 12, Grace is 10….David is almost 8, Caleb is 5.  They all know how to walk like proper duckies behind their mother duck.

But, Seth (17 months) does not.  Seth wants to go his Own Way.

Baby Sarah (2 months) is just a baby.  She can’t walk.  She doesn’t even stay awake during walks.

I like to go on walks but I needed help with the little ones.  I’m a mom of seven and I understand that there are lots of near-impossible feats that women can accomplish with youngsters.  However, going for a lovely walk, unaided, with a newborn and a toddler is something that I personally would not ever encourage.  Unless it is a walk of a very short length (10 feet or less)………

Hence, the wonderful NEW WHEELS:

Jacob, Ethan, Grace, David, and Caleb have had Vacation Bible School all this week.  On Sunday night, while they were attending night #1, my handsome husband and I went and bought ourselves a shiny new double stroller.  The first time I used it on my own (at the library) I had to call him at work because I could not figure out how to fold the thing back up.

I really like the bright, cheerful red color.  It is very easy to push and it turns corners on a dime.  The seats easily lift out so that we can turn them to face each other, the front, or the back.

Right now Sarah faces us.

And Seth faces front so he can look at things as we walk along.

It’s been such a nice week.  Taking the children to VBS every night has been crazy (it’s a half hour drive to church) but fun.  Instead of going home to enjoy his quiet house, Rich has been driving to church after work to meet me and we’ve gone on dates (with the little ones) each evening –dinner and then a nice long walk around the neighborhood.

We talk and laugh and last night on the sidewalk, as cars were driving by,  I received the nicest long romantic kiss!  Now that we have this awesome stroller we plan on walking (and kissing) after dinner as often as we can.

  1. Love your new wheels!  Sounds like you are enjoying using it.  I really like that you can change which way the seats face.  Your walks during VBS sound like so much fun!

  2. Great stroller!! Love the red. Sounds like romantic time being together with the little two. I like the two seats and being able to change the configurations. We went with one movable seat and a booster seat for the toddler. Didn’t work when the toddler fell asleep!!! Then we had to put him in the carriage and carry the baby…so your choice is better. I know you will love it on your outings and walks. BTW-Seth is so cute, quite the smiley boy.

  3. It’s been great seeing you guys so much, and getting to chat with you the past two nights. 🙂  I love the new stroller, very nice. 😀  You’re looking wonderful, by the way, I forgot to mention that last night. ❤

  4. Awesome!! makes me think of Hutch5’s post the other day about ‘you know you’re a mom when’…funny how we trade one kind of new wheels for another in motherhood…i.e. sporty cars for sporty strollers?! glad for you; a good stroller is a wonderful blessing!!!curious about the brand? don’t think i’ve seen one like that, but i like the way it faces front and back..happy thursday to you!

  5. You and your hubby have such a wonderful relationship. It is refreshing and sweet. Love that cool stroller. I love the color too. It makes it safe so others can see it when they are next to the road. Nice find!

  6. LOVE that stroller. You should have seen my twin stroller back in the day.The boys faced each other. Not good.No choices. Can we say….scratch each other’s eyes out???Enjoy!!!

  7. Dear Shanda, what a lovely way you have of appreciating the small but important things in life Thank you for blogging you brighten my day Love Rachel

  8. Yes! Yes! YES! Aren’t double strollers wonderful???!!!! The first one we had was side by side. It was so wide, we couldn’t get through the aisles in the stores, and barely made it through the door! The front & back riders are more practical and the fact you can face both seats in different directions is sheer genius by the designers! Now that you know how to close it, I bet it’s like mine was and collapses with one easy motion!Congrats on your “WISE” purchase (and . . . happy kissing!).

  9. I love your new wheels. I have been admiring all of the ingenious designs I see here in Melbourne for double strollers—so many people walking long distances have led to lots of choices here, but I see you found a great option. Plus, red is my favorite color–so much more fun than navy blue.

  10. I love it! Wow and I agree with you, I love the red color. Although I absolutely love color and cheeriness. So happy you can take walks easier now and enjoy them. You deserve it. Also, what a blessing to be able to have dates with your hubby. It is so sweet to hear what a romantic time you two have with one another. You got me daydreaming about my handsome husband coming home in September. I can’t wait to get myself a long romantic kiss!! 🙂 Love ya

  11. Sorry for adding this…but I wondered if you’re not worried about having Sarah in a stroller like that? I’m from Germany and here we have a very different sort of stroller. Here’s a link to the one we have: http://www.teutonia.de/produkte/mistral/varianten/mistral-s.html My baby is six months old now. Here we learn (from midwives, doctors,…) that babies should lie down flat on their back until they can sit up themselves because it affects their back and spine in a negative way. I really don’t want to “critisize” you and I hope you don’t see it that way. I was just a little worried when I saw little Sarah in the stroller. Just thought I’d share this. God bless you all.

  12. @Debbie – Debbie, It’s okay…thanks for your input.  The seats of the stroller do recline.  Sarah does look sort of slouched over and I should have her laying back more.  Thanks for your concern.  Have a good weekend!  Love, Shanda

  13. Very very cool!  I am laughing because my first thought was “keep all that kissing up and you will need a bigger stroller!”LOL!Your dates sound perfect! I am so happy for you!
