some of Sarah’s little things

As most of you know, my husband and I are eagerly awaiting our seventh child this coming June.  We are thrilled to add another girl to our family of one girl and five boys.

During each of my pregnancies, one of my favorite things to do as I waited was buy a few outfits for the baby and then look at them now and then during the remaining months, imagine what he or she would look like, and what it would be like to finally hold my baby after all those days and days of dreaming of him or her.  I pick up each outfit and look at it, then fold it up and put it back away……..’til the next urge strikes, to do it all over again.

My seventh pregnancy has been no exception.  The weekend after finding out she was a girl, the whole family went out shopping to buy her some things.  Since that time I have also found some clothes here and there.  It’s so fun to look through girlie things again after having three baby boys in a row!

Here are some little dresses that I picked out.  Rich wasn’t crazy about the pink one (not sure why) but he loved the green one, with polka dots.  They both came with little diaper covers, so cute!

Rich picked this one out on his own.  I was surprised that he chose a dress.  I remember when Grace was a baby, he didn’t like the way she felt in his arms, all lost in skirts and ruffles and other slippery things like that.  But, he liked this one, and I do, too.  It is simple, and sweet, and made of linen.  The other outfit he picked out and we bought, is a soft yellow shirt and pants set, with duckies on it.

The children and I were shopping at JC Penney a month ago and couldn’t resist this soft-as-a-cloud blanket:

I bought this at baby GAP not long ago.

A few more practical things, pretty little sleepers, these were chosen by Grace.  Under the cupcake it says, “Little Sweetie”.  The kitten is saying “purrfect”.  I like the feet.

This next one is sort of special, because I had bought it when I found out I was pregnant with my sixth baby, the bundle of joy who turned out to be SETH.  I had gotten this before I found out I was having a boy.  I couldn’t resist this dress because it is green (my favorite color) and because of the embroidered cherries (which I think are darling).  I have had several opportunities to give this dress away to friends who had new baby girls, but for some reason just couldn’t part with it……but now I know the reason, it was meant for my Sarah Joy.

This weekend, I handmade some little softshoes for Sarah.  There is something so special about MAKING things, vs. buying them.  My sewing skills are limited, and so is my free time, so these little shoes were the perfect thing to make for her.  I had so much fun, but Rich wondered, why no pink?  So, I might end up making a third, pink pair.

I made these first:

And then, these:

Yes, we are having lots of fun thinking about, and planning for, baby Sarah.  In another month or so, I’ll buy a container of Dreft baby laundry soap and wash all her things…..I love when it’s time to do that!

  1. Oh how sweet to have pink in your life! Thank you darling girl for the card. She sits like a little princess on my tea pot shelf. I am so glad I came back today to see this post. I came here first after writing a little something. I smiled and sighed with relief to see those faces again. You are never far from my heart. AND great job on all of the choices above!! blessings and love always, m

  2. What lovely things baby Sarah will be wearing. I remember when I found out my 4th child was a girl. I left the dr and drove straight to the Gap to load up on cute dresses! My older daughters were thrilled for me to have a baby girl to “dress up” again :)Have a wonderful day!

  3. This is really for your post yesterday — but your oldest son making pies reminded me about a post I did back on January 12, 2008 when our oldest son decided that he was going to make peanut butter pies.  I put pictures on there, too.  You’ll have to go and see that post if you get a chance.  What a wonderful thing when sons take initiative like that.  Your son has every right to be very satisfied and happy with his accomplishment.  Thanks for sharing!

  4. How adorable all the clothes and the precious shoes are. I look at these things and feel sad, as I have no children..I guess it wasn’t God’s Will.  I so enjoy reading about your little ones!  Blessings for a wonderful week.

  5. Ahhhhh.  The smell of Dreft on baby clothes.  Those baby shoes are cute.  Isn’t it fun to pick out those little outfits.  They look so small, yet somehow the baby still “swims” in them :).

  6. Rick has very good taste in clothes! I love that little dress he picked out; I wouldn’t even mind wearing something like that! Baby Gap is so, so dangerous, I have such a hard time resisting their clothes for my girls. They are just! so! adorable! Those shoes are beautiful, especially the Colorado sunshine pair!I cannot wait to see pictures of Sarah Joy in all these lovely outfits, so I can just imagine that your impatience to dress her in them must be even more!

  7. I still have Dreft in its box, & our “baby” (23 yrs.) got married at Christmas. Just this AM I decided to use Dreft in a load of laundry for old times’ sake (the fragrance), & then sat down to read your post.  🙂 Buying dresses is so fun!  Our middle daughter of five will be married Saturday; I’ve shopped lots of pink! Now we’ll be empty nesters.

  8. The little shoes with lace are just so very delightful!  The lace sends them over the edge! The post feels like you are nesting, I know you said you will wait a month to wash them all, but the fact that you are taking inventory means it is really on your mind!  It must be so much fun to have each person helping pick things out and dream and hope right alongside of you!

  9. We had 13 foster infants and I did the same with each of them. Bought ahead of time and “played” with their clothes until they were big enough to wear them. Despite raising 15 babies in my life, I am enjoying looking at your pretty things. My girls sat behind me as I scrolled down to look at each picture and there were lots of “ohhhs!” and “ahhhs” from my BIG girls!

  10. The shoes are adorable!  Did you have a pattern for them?  I love the dress your husband picked out the best but all of it is perfect and wonderful.  Can’t wait till they are filled with Sarah’s little warm body!

  11. The white and navy dress…the toile… is just beautiful. How fun and what a blessing. I look forward to the day the Lord blesses us again but until then I will rejoice with you! 🙂

  12. How sweet! I remember doing the same with my children. With our first, my husband and I would marvel at how small all the items were! Baby Sarah is going to be so loved and welcomed!
