a little update

Grace has the flu.  She has every symptom; sore throat, fever, headache, body aches, vomiting, and a cough.  She is a good patient and rarely complains or makes a peep.  She now believes it would be better to get a flu shot than to have the flu, she says it’s miserable and terrible.  She is downstairs on the couch right now, with a washcloth on her forehead, under a sheet (because a blanket makes her too hot), watching a cooking show.  I’ve been giving her motrin and making her drink as much as she can.

Thanks for praying for us.  I still had a pounding headache in the night, but by the morning it was gone.  I woke up thanking God for that, and I actually felt like my old self for a little bit this morning!  Of course I took the opportunity to scrub the kitchen and do some laundry.

I also gave Seth a bath in the sink, after I was done scrubbing it.  I took this picture last week, but this is what he looked like today, too.  I love making my baby clean and sweet again, especially now that he’s eating and getting crusties on his face, and crawling around on the floors.

He always enjoys his bath.

I talked to Rich a little while ago and he should be home around 9:30 or so.  He said that the event went really well, (he was in Dallas, TX).  He sounded good, and told me he missed us.

The boys are all fine and dandy and seem extra loud now that we have someone in the house with a headache!

I spent Seth’s afternoon nap with Grace, on the couch.  I must admit, it is sorta kinda nice to have someone snuggling next to me as quiet as a kitten, although I would rather have my girl healthy than sick.

  1. Poor dear Grace. Praying she recovers and bounces back. Sweet picture of Seth…I love those sink baths and the pure happiness for baby and mom! Glad you are feeling better. I have a headache this afternoon again, but I think it is more a reaction to something new the doc has me trying as it is the front of the forehead, and that is usually a sign of sensitivity. Ugh, feels awful, so I feel for Grace. Trying to finish studying chemistry! Take care, please pray for my cousin’s son Colton. I put up a prayer request on my site. Thanks dear one! Jenny

  2. Prayers continue to go up for Grace as she is on the mend!  Neither one of my girls is a cuddler UNLESS they are sick, which happens seldom since we began homeschooling seven years ago!  But when they like to cuddle with me – I simply eat it up as long as I can!

  3. praying that Grace feels better soon. Glad to hear that the talk that your husband had to step in on went well and that he should be home soon. I pray that you are all kept well and that your headache doens’t return. i love that picture of your little man having a bath. what a beautiful time together when he’s sitll small enough to do this.

  4. Poor Grace 😦 We’ll continue to pray for her, you and the rest of your family to get well and/or stay well. Cutie Pie, Seth. πŸ™‚ He always looks so happy!

  5. Well, you’ve been in my prayers – you AND your family. I’ve prayed for Grace’s healing (to be quick) and the other children to NOT get sick several times over the past 24 hours. I actually prayed for Rich as he was on the plane home (my meal time here in OK) tonight and I prayed that things get back to normal in your household soon. Be blessed, sweet Shanda, you have a double portion on your plate these days! In fact, be DOUBLY blessed!

  6. I read your post and then stopped and prayed for all of you. Probably, at this time you are all tucked up in bed. I hope so, anyway! I pray that when you wake, you will have energy, joy and strength for the day. I pray that Grace will be feeling tons better, and that no one else will get sick! Loved the picture of Seth in the sink!

  7. awww….poor Grace….I just got the flu shot yesterday, and I am glad that I don’t have to worry about getting the real flu…because it is a miserable way to be…I don’t get paid leave from my job, so if I get so sick that I can’t work, I end up losing valuable money…I am praying that Grace will recover soon, and get back to her smiley self…

  8. I am going to pray that no one else in the house gets it.  Hopefully it will get easier once Rich is home.  I showed Steve the brown Fiesta ware and I was all happy because service of five was on sale for 26 in stead of 48 and he said I could get it and then I notived, there were five items in the box, not enought items to serve five people!!!!  I put it back. Sigh! LOL!Was it HGTV that she was watching? I miss those cooking shows!

  9. Hope your daughter feels better really soon (and that the rest of you don’t get it too…YUCK).  Glad you have a bit of energy today to accomplish your tasks.

  10. I was praying for you (and Grace) in the night. I had this same flu and it seemed to last for weeks. Just when I thought I could get going I felt miserable again….but then I am old…Praying much for you NOT to get this dear heart, with baby on the way. Take your garlic and vitamin C. Zinc helps to. Give that to Gracie with some southern HUGS.

  11. Shanda, I read your blog almost every day, but hardly ever comment. I’m worried now about you and Grace because you haven’t posted today! God bless you all with good health and healing, and protect you all from harm! Thank you for sharing your life with us with your sweet and inspiring words, quotes and delightful photos. Coming to your blog is like having a cup of coffee with a sweet, caring neighbor. Your faraway Xanga friend in the Arkansas Ozarks,Celia (aka Annie Mockingbird)

  12. I’m hoping Grace is feeling better this evening, we prayed for you tonight at prayer meeting, I miss seeing you, and hope the children are doing better, and that Rich is home safe.  Hope you have a good night, much love to you. ❀
