I wanted to update…….my spirit did quiet down yesterday and we had a nice normal day.  (Thank you, friends, for your understanding notes here, I very much enjoyed each and every one.)

The best part of the day, was that my husband was able to (guiltily) leave the conference early last night, and he surprised us by coming home at 7:10 pm.

He watched us through the door for a few minutes before coming in and he told me this morning that he loved what he saw as he peeked, without us knowing……..

“It was so peaceful and warm-looking.  There were little ones busy in the livingroom and you were sitting at the table feeding Seth in his highchair.  There were kids all around you.  Everyone looked happy.  It was like looking into a dream.”

He said that to me, this morning, at the kitchen table.  And I thought to myself, that was my Father above, who turned the ugly into beauty and let Rich see it, like a gift, and not only see it but REALLY SEE IT and notice it, and then show it back to me, the warmth and peace of home, the love of his very own family.

He walked in the door with a smile on his face.  He was hungry so Grace and I jumped right up to get him some dinner.  We had been talking about Christmas when he arrived, so he was just in time to find out that “all Ethan wants is one gift for Christmas, just one; a laptop.  And all Grace wants is a horse.”

  1. So sweet and precious. I love hearing how Rich looked in and SAW, and how he showed it back to you. Really a gift from above to you both! Lord bless you today!

  2. I’m so glad you’re spirit picked back up And what a lovely gift for your husband to see you all and then tell you. That’s what it’s all about, letting Christ shine through you to your family, first and foremost. What a beautiful testimony~ Cinnamon

  3. Love to hear it. I get quite ugly myself at times. It’s nice when the Lord redeems those moments. I’m preparing for a visit from a missionary friend (whom I haven’t seen since college!)–we’re having potato soup with bread for lunch. Need to whip up a light dessert. 🙂

  4. Oh, what a blessing to see the beauty in the day.  So glad that your husband mentioned it to you too.  “It was like looking into a dream”.  That must be awesome to realize the “dream” is YOUR LIFE!! Looks like Christmas shopping will be light at your place.  LOL.  “only” a laptop and a horse, eh.  I think the days of coloring books, crayons, craft stuff, etc. for Christmas gifts is quickly leaving our house too:).  Gotta love it when they “just want one thing”.

  5. What Rich said brought tears to my eyes. God is so good!Another thing I just remembered (and this is random), speaking of things Rich says – didn’t he go through a phase a while back, calling you his “Beautiful Thing?” Very fitting, I think.

  6. A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. ~ Psalm 25:11What a blessing…to us ALL. LOL!Okay…I can’t wait for the next chapter of the story. 🙂

  7. I have those day! They tend to spread over weeks though as Beloved comes and goes from War and as the stress comes and goes over the weeks. Some day my Spirit quiets down quicker than other days. Other times I wake up full of sunshine and things go so well I think I can make it through this deployment and the ones that come after this one with very few bad days. However, when a husband is gone it seems like everything in the house breaks! (sigh)  –  So thankful that God allowed him to see the Peace of his home! And in turn, relayed that to you so you too could continuely feel peaceful today.  Such a beautiful story.

  8. Oh! If only I had known about Grace. We had a pony (a larger one, not itty bitty) I would have gladly given to a good home. He was a pretty horse and Grace would have loved him. I think it’s been almost 2 years since we had to part with him (upkeep too much).

  9. The way God does things are just beautiful…. and for you to see the huge gift you were handed yesterday tells me you have a beautiful heart.  Blessings to you Shanda.  I love your realness.

  10. that is beautiful!! I so appreciated your truth yesterday, and it was a double blessing to see how God can turn it into something good!!It was also a challenge to me… to make an effort for my home to be peaceful and warm looking when my husband comes home. It hasn’t been that way so much lately!!!
