are you a good brownie or a bad brownie?

A couple weeks ago, I was on the couch watching Paula Deen’s cooking show.  She made the most incredible looking brownies I had ever seen.  I called the children over to watch with me and we were all like this:

I tried “very hard” not to, but the next day, when I was at the grocery store I found myself in front of the BIG CANDY BARS and, I bought two of them (I used Hershey’s Milk Chocolate), so I could try Paula’s creation.

When I got home, I mixed up my favorite homemade brownie recipe.  Instead of putting the batter in a 9 by 13 pan, I used an 11 by 7, and I lined it with a big sheet of foil (the bottom and up the sides).  I spread half the batter on the bottom of the pan, and then arranged the chocolate bars on top of it.  Then, I spread the rest of the batter on top and baked it.

We let the brownies cool a little (boy was it hard to wait)…and when they were ready to eat, I just lifted the whole rectangle of gooey goodness out of the pan and started cutting them.

Paula Deen served her brownies with a big dollop of whipped cream, and nuts, but we just ate ours the way they were, good enough without the cream, so tasty, delicious, chocolaty and satisfying.  A chocolate dream.

(By the way, I think these would taste great with dark chocolate in the middle, too.)

  1. MMMMMM!!!!!  I have NO chocolate in the house!!  But I did just have a birthday party for Coco’s invisible friend Lucy so I should make some invisible ones…no never mind that will never work! LOL!  I will have to make these for real now that I have seen how good they turn out!

  2. Shanda, that was awful, just awful to post this and not have enough to share with all of us!! 🙂 We are having an event at church this weekend and I will have to try this!!! 🙂 Thanks.

  3. Ok, I’m trying that.  I have chocolate chip oatmeal cookies baking in the oven right now!  Had I read this before I started my batch of cookies,  there would’ve been brownies in the oven instead!!!  Thanks for sharing. =)

  4. ooo…I’m all about the DARK chocolate! The barefoot contessa has a TO-DIE-FOR recipe for brownies that Jessica makes.Unbelievably YUM-oh!Not making brownies today.I have an enormous pan of pumpkin squares in the frig.hmmm….maybe later in the week?:)

  5. OH. MY. GOODNESS.  How incredibly yummy those things look!  I’m thinking, right now, how I could justify making some of those, even though we have banana bread sitting on the counter!  Hey, bible study tomorrow night ~ there’s my excuse – I mean occassion.  Thanks for the recipe – and such a cute way to present it!  You are such a sweet lady!  Have a blessed day!

  6. OH my! The possibilities are endless! Carmel? Mint chocolates? I am going to have to make them when my next Bible study meets here. The only problem is that I have six young men who could probably eat about six each! The young ladies aren’t quite as bad, but they all love chocolate!

  7. If you only knew how much I’ve been craving chocolate – brownies or warm chocolate cake in particular! I’ve been whispering in my cat’s (Chirp’s) ear, “I want chocolate chips, Chirp!” And here you are with warm chocolate. I’ll be there tonight to help you eat it!

  8. Those look so good! Guess I will be buying brownie mix and chocolate bars on my next trip too. YUM Your children must think you are the most fun! Hope you are feeling well!

  9. It’s so nice to know other Mama’s have their moments of tempation fully indulged But where are the pictures of the children’s chocolatey faces? Bet those were adorable~~Cinnamon
