It’s a little chilly here now. Seth crawls around on the floor and gets cold hands and cold toes, so I think that’s why I got the urge this morning to make crocheted booties for him. However, I don’t know how to crochet baby booties, so I looked on ebay in order to buy some. But those were hard to imagine in real life. Would they fit? Would they look good? (Getting in the car and going out shopping was never a consideration, I didn’t want to leave the house.) Then, I thought, maybe I don’t have to buy booties, maybe I could make some. I looked online and found a free pattern for cloth baby shoes. It looked manageable. I resurrected my sewing machine out of the closet, found some felt, some elastic, my straight pins, my good scissors that I hide from the children, some material, and got to work, little by little, step by step.
I was so excited and proud when I turned the first shoe right side out and realized that I had done it! I had actually made a little itty bitty shoe.
The second shoe was easier than the first, but I did have to push myself a little to finish it right away. “Come on, Shanda, just do it. Then you can take pictures and put them on your blog!”
Yes, I used my blog (and my mother…I sent her the pictures already) to motivate myself.
And now our precious Settie has new shoes, made by his mama the shoemaker! *sigh of contentment*

I LOVE THEM!!! π Bravo, Mrs. Mommy Shoe maker! π
Adorable! Can you share the site where you got the free pattern? I would love to see if I could manage a pair.
Good for you, dear friend! They look like they are warm and comfy. Just what the Mama ordered, right? I’m so proud of you.
Those are so cute!!!! I have that pattern, but the feet in my house are getting too big for them. I’ll have to figure out how to make them bigger! But, I’m so hooked on knitting, I can’t manage to settle in front of my sewing machine these days. SIGH. . .too many hobbies and not enough time.
They are so cute,Shanda! I keep my sewing scissors high up from little hands too π
How sweet! You did a great job!
Absolutely adorable! I just told my husband that we have to get some slippers for Joy, because our wooden floors get so cold that even socks don’t keep her warm enough. Gracie’s not crawling yet, but maybe I should think abut making her some booties in advance!
how cute! i’d love to try and make a pair for my little guy — where did you find the pattern?
cuuuute! that’s awesome.
Love them! You did a great job! I recognize that flannel too.
Yay, for Shanda the shoemaker. Those look so cute, as well as looking like a great fit! It is good to have Sewing scissors that are sharp

How darling! They are just cute as can be!!! Care to share the pattern site?
So cute! Now, not to take away from your beautiful and creative shoes, but if you are ever in the need for baby booties try robeez. I used them for my kids. You might have heard of them since you have so many children, if not, they are wonderful. They are made of leather, come in all sorts of fun and adorable colors and designs. They are really soft and squishy for baby feet, and have a soft but durable bottom when they start walking. They have sizes for newborns all the way through around 4 years old. However, they’re not “mama made”, and that can be so much more special sometimes!!! You did a great job! Glad you posted it. =)
Those are adorable! Can you share the link to where you found the pattern? Those would be fun to do for baby gifts. π
Adorable!
how cute is that! way to go! btw…who won your cd giveaway? π
Great job Shan! They turned out awesome! Those would be great baby shower gifts too!
They are cute! I love them! (I’ll be looking for the site you found!)
Wow! You are so talented. Made with love for your baby! How long did it take you to make them?
David says he wants to make some of those for winter…his will be giant sized!!
They are so cute!! Now all your children will probably want some!!
I am expecting to see a boatload of new little shoes!!! (No pressure!!) Look around at things you can recycle into way cool shoes. My daughter used an old leather something or other to make the soles on a pair…Come on, girl! We are waiting! I know these can be habit forming. And if the next one is a girl..I can see bits and bobs turning up on the girly version!
As I read your post today I couldn’t help but think of the Proverbs 31 woman making clothing for her family. Your family is SO blessed to have you, Shanda the shoemaker.
totally cute and now your little Sethie should have some very warm toeies!! I have to say my blog has motivated me more than once to finish something so I can blog about it π yay for motivation!
Wow!! Go Shanda!
Oh Shanda! How did I manage to not see the past couple of weeks of your site?! I’ve missed SO much! You’re having another baby!! I am SO happy for you!! This little surprise to you, Rich and your amazing children will be such a blessing! The rest of your posts were so special, I teared up on several of them. There’s something so tender… proclaiming the Lord in pictures and your words. One couldn’t help but be challenged and blessed at the same time. I know I am each and every time I “step” into your blog! I just love your precious family… I can’t imagine how many times the Lord smiles upon you all! Thank you, Shanda… your site is soul filling and so refreshing! Praying for you as you carry a new little one!!
