The Memorial day parade (on Monday) started at 9:00am so we left the house at about 8:45….as we drove along, I was looking out the window and all of a sudden I yelled, “Hey! I think we just passed a Bitty Baby crib!! Turn around, turn around!”
Sure enough, by the side of the road, in a pile of junk, with a “Help Yourself” sign, was a crib for Gracie’s Bitty Baby. How wonderful! Absolutely free!
After the parade, we came home and washed everything all up. She has the crib, the bedding, and the mobile. American Girl changes designs every few years and this is an older set, but it matches the carseat that Grace already has, from about 4 years ago.
Of course, we couldn’t keep Seth out of it. He was a little worried at first, but after we assured him it was okay, he started smiling again. He likes pushing his feet on the end, and holding the side bars with his hands.
Grace will be 10 in November and I hope to keep her playing with dolls as long as possible.
She’s had her precious Bitty Baby since she turned 5, when she bought her with her own birthday money. Bitty Baby has been on family vacations with us, and all over the place….I like the pictures I have of Grace with her doll, like this one, from two years ago:
Grace Lillian

Delightful for Mother And daughter!
unexpected great freebies ROCK!
Ah, Shanda, so precious!!! And I like it when little girlies play with baby dolls. I was considered an old fogey, but I wouldn’t buy Barbie dolls for my girls. I just HATED them, and saw no need for them to have them. I don’t think they have suffered too much, and all three of them LOVE real babies. Your Grace is a youthful embodiment of her name.
What a beautiful girl. I love her name too.
So precious… !!!! Oh how much fun it must be to have a little girl to have those tender and sweet “girly” moments with!!!
That is so cute. My 8-year-old niece still brings her American Girl doll everywhere we go! I love the innocence of playing with dolls.
What a blessing for you and Grace! My 13 and 11 year olds still love to play with their American Girl dolls. They are always the first things on their wish lists. I’m praiaing God I have a 3 year old to introduce them to too.
I like free stuff too! Good eye Shan! Great find!
Knowing how expensive American Girl stuff runs, I’m super happy you found a piece of furniture for free! I think I already told you, Rissy has the same nightgown Grace is wearing in the picture! Seth looks like a darling apple dumpling squished in that bed!
Love it! I am an addicted and unashamed scavenger. Not only does scavenging ease the budget…it keeps perfectly good stuff out of the landfill. Furthermore, when you get something free, you don’t have to pay sales tax on it. I think it is horrid…after we already have paid income tax, then on top of all that, we have to pay sales tax yet too. That is my little rant for the morning.
What a great find! I am sure Grace was thrilled….Love ya Amanda
Free is always the right price! What a wonderful, blessing for your sweet girl! My kids played with dolls until they were 13! They didn’t tell their friends, though! LOL!
I love curb diving! I got my front-load washing machine that way! Yay!I totally agree with you – keep her playing with dolls as long as she can. My 14 year old started growing out of dolls when she turned 13, but she still “humors” her sister and plays with them every now and then. Truth be known – I think she misses playing with them, but heaven forbid she chance being grown-up and uncool by playing with dolls! (LOL).I love her night gown! It’s beautiful!
What a great find, and it looks like it is in such good condition. I’m happy for you AND your daughter!
Isn’t it great to find special treasures for free! Grace is so pretty–God has given you a special treasure!!! She looks so girly in her pretty skirt!
I love the crib! How lucky! I think it’s sweet that she plays with dolls still…..they have so much time to grow up…why start too early!
Wow you had a good eye to spot that:) That is a deal! It looks like she is very happy with that to. My brother in law just made Abby a crib like that, I will have to post a picture for you. I made her bedding, she helped:)
i’m 19 now, but i played regularly with my dolls until i was 14 (8th grade!). i still have them and take them out occasionally. i LOVE dolls. i had a bitty baby and 4 american girls and many other dolls and i loved them all so much. i hope grace plays with dolls for a long time! and i hope your boys are nice to her about it, because my brothers made fun of me to no end for loving on them as long as i did.
What fun! i love the crib and what a precious little girl you have!
That’s fanTAStic! What a “steal”!!! So, which Dolly is Grace’s favorite??? No doubt, the adorable little brother! Love, GAil
So happy for Grace about the little crib ~
Wow!!!! What an awesome find! I love the photos!
Wow! what a nice find. Did it come with the mobile too? I’m a “curb-side picker” too and I used to embarrass my children something awful!! It’s so nice to see young girls still playing with dolls — I played with them for a long time and still have one of my first “life size” dolls and she’s pretty old now (50-55 years!!) She still sits in the high chair that she came with and I would never part with her!
I love free!
I love finding neat things like that at tag sales, or better yet, for free! How wonderful, I love the one of Seth…hehe. Makes him look so big! 😀 I hope you had a wonderful evening. Love ya. 🙂
The crib is adorable! I love the pic of Sethie in it! Your daughter will make a great Mommy someday!
Oh how exciting! What a great find! It was waiting there just for your little girl! I LOVE your family portraits under here! They came out beautiful! I especially love little Seth looking off at something. -confusion on a baby is so cute. :o) Have a wonderful day! I wish we had some sun so the kids can run and play, but it will be a nice day to cozy down with a blanket with them, and read a book.
Great photos! Great find! Love the music!
Shanda, I am so excited you found this! I am sure the crib will encourage Grace in her doll-playing even longer. My sister and I played with our American Girl dolls until we were about 13 years old and I still love my Samantha. Also, I was always thrilled with little doll-sized furniture and will never forget when the mother of one of my friends made me an adorable little wooden bench just Samantha’s size! Seth is SO SO SO CUTE. I can hardly stand it! ❤ ❤ ❤
That is great! Those American Doll accessories are very pricey too. I absolutely love the nightgown Grace is wearing!!
That is not your normal, run of the mill, every day, free stuff…that was SO God, setting it out there just for Gee!!!
