our baby

Guess what my baby learned to do this week?

One day, he was content to just kick his feet and flap his arms, and the next day he was grabbing his toes!  Isn’t it nice of God to put such nice toys right on the ends of his legs?  Seth thinks so, and I’m sure he’s already wondering what they taste like. . . .

Here’s another picture, because he has such nice blue eyes.

Grace, and David, and I noticed spit bugs the other day.  A mama spit bug lays her eggs in the debris on the ground, or in the stem of a grass.  The baby nymphs hatch in the spring and they cover themselves up with spittle so that they don’t dry out.  The babies are tiny, and green.  The spit is foamy and thick.

I mention the spit bug, because I have my own little baby spit bug….see?

I just can’t figure out what this little bug’s purpose is, in industriously making all this mess.

Seth has been sleeping the nights through but last night he decided to get up and have a party.  I was called upon at about 2:30 to provide refreshments.  After I was back in bed for about an hour, he called again for a diaper change.  This time he was not trusted to be left alone so he had to come to bed with mama, so he could be watched.  We fell back to sleep just in time for papa to get up for work.  What a fun night!  Seth got to snooze all morning to make up for lost sleep, but I had to get up and take care of his siblings.

Right now, he’s gently swaying back and forth in his swing, with his little button eyes shut, holding his blue blankie by his cheek.  Softly sleeping yet again.

Seth is a wonderful part of our family.  It’s so delightful to have a baby in the house.  Our baby.

Jacob has been videotaping short little family videos lately.

Here’s one he did this morning, because he thought Sethie looked so cute in his new little romper with a hood.

It shows just a tiny glimpse of daily life in our house.  It could be called, “Sethie” (we also call him Settie), or “Where’s the Suntan lotion?”  By the way, Ethan did find it all by himself with no help from me.  So funny.  He went swimming later, with David and Grace.  I also want to tell you that it’s David who is poking Seth in the forehead when the video starts, NOT ME.   Anyway, on to the “show”……..

HAVE A
DELIGHTFUL
FANTASTIC
FAMILY-FILLED
WONDROUS
WEEKEND!!!!!!!

Thanks for all your encouragment the other day when I was down.  You’re all such nice people.

  1. Even though my baby is almost 26, I still remember those times of being “called on to bring the refreshments” in the wee hours for a baby party! I can’t see Ethan’s video. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, and that Rich gives you some “you” time!

  2. As always love the real life and your expressions crack me up……….sorry if they aren’t suppose to but it is just so funny to me how you are kissing kissing the baby and Ethan is asking for some random thing it is just so so HOW LIFE is……I can see why you want to keep kissing him so cute.  Is it hard to get a video up?  I have always wanted to but never have. Have a fab day

  3. Oh wow, it seems like forever since I’ve been on your site ~ still trying to catch my breath after dh’s surgery.  Anyway, Seth is adorable with those little toes!  And I loved the video because I got to hear your voice ~ 🙂  How funny to see Seth doing the spit-bug thing.  And on the last post, I think that frog has the most beautiful yellow tummy!  Ha!  And Grace has all the grace of a panther and her clothes were the right color ~ so sure ~ a panther!  🙂

  4. Shanda, so nice to hear your voice.  It makes a big difference, you know?  Now I’ll hear you when I read your blog!  🙂  Take care and enjoy those sweet baby cheeks…I am!!!

I really enjoyed the video!I have to admit i have had a rough few days myself, today i forced myself to let everything go..I will worry about it tomorrow(i am sure it will still be there) I did do just 1 pile of laundry, because i watched it growing and got a little nervous! Last night was really rough for me,ALL of them were REALLY cranky and had a hard time falling asleep(probally because it was so warm)Shanda, you are such a good mommy and you are loved and needed so very much!

  7. Shanda, thanks for visiting our nature blog…your outdoor photos are always amazing and inspiring…living in the middle of God’s creation and having room to explore is such a blessing…especially when you have BOYS!!! Your little spittle bug is just adorable!

  8. Just saw this post and video. Seth looks EXTREMELY SMART and I’m sure he’s covered himself in spittle to grow and stay moist! Loved the video AND seeing your face and hearing your voice. Makes our friendship more personal! Hugs to you! Cherylyn

  9. it’s me again, i had to show Laura your video. She said she could never imagine having 5 brothers and no sisters…she said she feels bad for Grace,I told her i’m sure it’s lots of fun though…! She asked me if she was as bald as Seth when she was a baby…she was! Only her head was 5 times bigger then Seths at the same age.. She was 18 pounds at 3 months….take care and i hope you are enjoying your weekend!

  11. Oh he’s so deliciously cute!!! Sorry it’s been so long since hearing from me, I’ve been extremely busy. But I’m so happy to see things are going so well for you and that Spring has such wonderful new life. He’s beautiful! Congrats!

  12. I miss that so much, I love when babies find their toes….so wonderful!Fun to look in at your kitchen, like the swingset picture, I for some reason did not understand that the pond was on the side of the garage, I thought it was directly in front of the house at the base of the little hill, or is that where the second is?
