busy-busy

DSC_3125

I am, like my title says all too clearly, very busy.  The children and housework are almost too much for me to keep up with.  This has been a nice week, though…just…busy.  This afternoon I have to take David and Seth to the doctor’s for check ups.  Seth will have shots and David has to have his tongue examined.  Rich and I noticed that he doesn’t move it like the other children and we had his Speech Therapist check him, and she also agreed with our finding.  I’ve had the worse time getting Seth added to our insurance and got off the phone yesterday in tears with the doctor’s office…they made me feel like I was about to skip town without paying for Seth’s very first newborn appointment.  I canceled the appointments (for today) while crying which made the finance lady soften up and encourage me that yes, she was sure Blue Cross would pay, that there must be some sort of glitch somewhere, that it was obvious we were working to fix the problem, and please don’t cancel the appointment.  *SIGH*

I’ve been trying hard the last 2 days to really get some good schooling done with the children.  I even started another blog to try to keep track of things pertaining to home school.  If you are interested, here is the link:  CLOVER HILL SCHOOLHOUSE.  People often have questions for me about homeschooling so that will be the place that I will try to answer those questions.  Although, I daresay I will be asking more questions than anyone, LOL.

My brain feels so tired from so much going on all the time…I often have two or three or more things happening all at once and after a while I find that I have a short circuit somewhere in my head.

I’ve been using the crock pot the last 2 days for dinner.  It makes my life much easier but after a while Rich gets tired of slow cooked meals.  LOL

Okay, I must go, Seth (who is in the Ergo carrier and staring at my face) is starting to fuss and David is due home any minute.  If you think of it, say a prayer that my outing goes well at the doctor’s.  Caleb, I am sure, will attempt be a pain during the exams, and I need to deal with him wisely.  I think I will get a wonderful looking lollipop on the way and tell him that if he is quiet and well-behaved he will get to have it as a reward.  To be con’t…….

Love, Shanda

****************************

I’m back and it went well.  I stopped and bought lollipops on the way and made a big deal about how delicious they were and how good one would taste after the appointment if Caleb behaved.  I had him fairly bouncing with joy in anticipation.  He did get a little adventurous in the little/small/closet of an exam room but he behaved enough for his treat.

Seth was SO MAD when he got his shots.  I was surprised about the fuss.  He was quite put out.  He weights 11 pounds, 10 ounces and measured 23.5 inches.  He’s gained 5 pounds since birth, and grown 4 inches.

David was worried he would have to get a shot.  I consoled him all the way there, “No, you don’t need a shot, don’t worry about that a bit!  This is just a check-up!”  I said it repeatedly…and guess what?  Yup.  He was due for his 2nd chicken pox vacc.  Imagine trying to explain that one.  I tried to sound cheerful,  “Um, Dave?  I told you that you weren’t getting a shot.  Well….Mommy was wrong.  You DO have to have a shot!”  He thought about melting down, I could see the panic in his eyes…..I stopped him, “Dave!  You be tough!  I want to go home and tell Daddy later how brave you were.”  And he did fine.

Now, about his tongue.  He has what’s called LINGULAR FRENULUM, which means “when you lift up your tongue, that piece of skin that you see going up and down is too forward on his tongue, restricting normal tongue movement and might possibly need to be snipped.”  He will have to go to a specialist.  I’ll make the appointment tomorrow.  If that’s why his speech is delayed than bless his heart!  Poor boy!  I feel bad!  But good at the same time, knowing that the procedure can help him!

I went to Costco and that was fine.  I rewarded myself with a big icy coke on the way out.

Jacob stayed home by himself and did some cleaning.

Now I’m going to go let in the cat (he’s looking at me through the window), change a diaper, put in some more laundry, and take some tylenol.

((HUGS))

  1. AAAAHHhh, Seth is just TOO CUTE!!!I am so sorry about the insurance troubles! That is especially traumatic when you are just trying to get your sweet little baby checked. Anything to do with doctors and insurance takes SO MUCH TIME, as I am well aware because of T’s situation. Yesterday I kid you not, I spent about 7-8 hours on the phone trying to schedule doctors appointments and dealing with medically related stuff – T usually handles it all and I am attempting to get involved and save him some time! As a wife and homeschooling mother of 6, including newborn needs, you are busy if you never leave home. The type of “busy busy” you refer to – do you mean “going-going?” Having to leave the house, run errands, go to appointments, etc. is what makes me feel especially busy and short on time. I can’t even imagine doing all that with 6 children in tow. You are amazing!I’m looking forward to reading your new blog! Oh, and I meant to congratulate you on the chickens in my last comment. That is SO AWESOME!!! I have always wanted to raise chickens, too! I can’t wait to hear more about them…

  2. Cutey-patootie picture. 🙂 Boy, do I remember these days….the days of trying to get back to the old routine- only to discover it doesn’t really work. (lol) Old routines- new babies- they just don’t mix too well.  You’ll soon find the swing of things and your new baby and your new routine will all mesh into one comfy groove.
I hate dealing with insurance people- somehow they always make me feel like I’m guilty for something. (LOL) And I don’t know what!!!
Enjoy your day. Your such a great mom!!!

  3. Seth is just so completely adorable!!  Dealing with insurance and medical providers that want their money NOW is never fun.  I will be praying specifically about this situation for you.  Hang in there- you are doing a great job!  Love ya, and I’m excited to follow along with your new blog.

  4. @angiearmour – Hi Angie!   I haven’t been anywhere with the six children by myself since 2 weeks ago when I went grocery shopping (it was hard but fun in a crazy way).  I’m busy this week just trying to keep up with the children (Caleb has been SO active!) and the housework…I have piles of stuff all over the place and the maids are coming tomorrow to clean so I want to clean up those piles before they get here.  Where does the STUFF come from?  I am half tempted to just walk around with a garbage bag and throw things away without mercy.  My kitchen is always a mess….I made homemade bread this week and yesterday I made a pie (recipe coming!)…breakfast, lunch, dinner, baking, snacking, and in between all those things we clean (kids always help me, thank goodness!).  NEver a dull moment, but I do love it all, just when I get tired it seems overwhelming.
I hope you and all the other ladies who have experience with homeschooling add your wisdom to my new site.
Well, I’m sitting here (after folding clothes for a while), sipping some coffee…gotta wake up Sethie now and get going.  ~Shanda

  5. Seth is just so cute!  Praying for you, and for God to give you everything that you need.  Praying for Davy too.  I know that the Lord has you all in His care.

  6. You are a busy lady and I admire everything that you do.  Your heart is sweet and your hands are busy.  I’ll hop over and check out your homeschooling site today.  Hope the rest of your day is wonderful and that the doctor’s appointment goes better than you ever thought possible.

  7. What an amazing picture of Seth in his outfit against those colors! WOW! It really pops! I wish you had someone who could just stop over and do all your laundry. Wouldn’t that be great? My poor daughter called me today crying because she has another breast infection and is feeling terrible from loss of sleep and the effects of being sick. She is missing her momma, too. I put her in God’s capable hands, but how I long to be there for her! I pray for you, too, that your day runs smoothly and that everything needing to be done gets done. May you have grace to not worry about the rest!

  8. I. LOVE. THAT. PICTURE.  That is one to keep on file – it looks great – I can imagine it in black and white or even sepia as well – gorgeous!  Praying all will go well for you today!  The devil always comes at us after such a blessed time – though His grace and peace is suffiecient!  Blessings!

  9. I’m so glad to hear today went so well for you, what an accomplishment!!  Sounds like that procedure will be just what David needs, poor little guy.  I’m sure it will make a huge difference.  I hope you have a nice restful afternoon and evening.  Take care, Trish

  10. Hello.  You don’t know me, but I have been enjoying your site.  I am friends with chambray7.  I am writing reguarding your post from about a week ago.  I wanted to suggest a book that has been a HUGE blessing to me.  You may have heard of it or read it all ready, but I couldn’t help but to mention it to you.  “Created to be his Help Meet” by Debi Pearl.  This book is challenging, convicting, practical, and Biblical and really puts a whole new perspective on marriage.  God has used it in many lives, including my own.  I hope you will seriously consider reading it.  You can order it from their website http://www.nogreaterjoy.org or I have ordered from Amazon also.  It is about $10 on Amazon and if you have a $25 purchase, you get free shipping.  Blessings to you and your family!  You have sweet baby!

  11. oh my…what a day! doctor appointments are never my specialty, and shots are most despicable! But, always a good feeling to have behind us. Hopefully things will go well w/David and any procedures you have to have done. Little Seth is so adorable! Love his bright eyes and ready smile! My baby is just starting to smile at me on rare occasions, and I tell you, it’s little moments like that that make a mom want more babies! :O) (of course when you’re up in the night and trying to console a screaming baby while in a sleep deprived stupor, things look quite different!) lol! have a great Thursday…you deserved that big coke!

  12. I was surprised by a chicken pox shot due with Rissy. I had promised her no shots and told the doctor (who was seeing another daughter) that we would have to reschedule. Rissy holds me to my word – she’s dreadfully meticulous about exactly what I said!!!! – and so I had to reschedule or lose my head to the guillotine! Seth looks so much like Rich. Do you ever get tired of hearing that?!!

  13. Poor Davey – that happened with me also once…I don’t remember which girl it was that ended up with a shot when I promised that they were not due.  It makes us feel awful.  Hope to catch up with you soon.  I saw your # on the caller ID Tues…I tried calling back but you must have been out.    Love You!

  14. I love the picture of Seth–the blanket is very pretty, too!   I look forward to checking out your new homeschool site.  I’m always looking for wisdom and ideas with homeschooling.

  15. Seth is getting so big and he’s sooooo cute! I got all tired out just reading about your day!! Glad to hear that everything went well and trust that Davey’s problem will be taken care of easily and soon.

  16. @DanishDoll – Oh I would love a laundry lady!  I can’t tell you how my brain tries to solve that issue.  I wonder…do we have too many clothes?  I have the washer and dryer both going right now, and clothes folded on a couch and on the kitchen table, waiting for their owners to put them away.  And heaven help the child who returns clothes back to the dirty clothes basket without ever wearing them!  I’m sorry about your poor daughter.  I’ve never had that happen, thankfully, but I’ve heard how painful it is!  I hope she feels better soon.

  17. oh my word! seth looks so grown up in that picture~ he can’t be that big yet can he?? 🙂 glad they were able to find out what was wrong w/ david. bless his little heart. you’re my kinda gal rewarding yourself with a COKE!! 😉 you’ll have to share some of your crock pot recipe’s~ i’m always on the lookout for new ones. LOVE my crock pot.have a happy evening friend~!

  18. Shanda,
I found you on my mother’s site-danishdoll, and I can tell what an amazing person you are. I have enjoyed reading your posts.
    Hannah

  19. Just had to say that my sister had the same thing as your little guy, The midwife called it tongue tied, but we never had to clip it and she talkes just fine. So hope you won’t have to put the little guy thru any trauma, but maybe another lollipop will help 🙂
And about your post on being upset with your husband, I cannot imagine being on my own as much as you are, but  when I start to feel slighted the pity party is really hard to turn down. The book that thankfultoGod reccomended has been a tremendious blessing to me and Fascinating Womanhood (this book changed my marriage) I think it is so much harder too when you have so many little people to take care of and you are so wore out! So hang in there and keep making up ( or out ; ) and things will get better. Have a blessed day.

  20. I know I’m a bit late in posting on this but I’ve been out of town. I had that same problem with my tongue and ended up going to a “country” dr. and he just cut it with some sharp scissors. If the little guy wasn’t so young I would say you could do it yourself. The procedure is really not a big deal.

  21. …Wow. *just hugs you* Life has a way of keeping us busy, right? I don’t even have kids yet, and I feel I stay about that busy. n.n; lol Hopefully it will calm down for a little bit soon. *sigh* I just want to find a job! lol
So glad the dr appts went well,
    ~*Akarui Mitsukai*~
