chocolate chunk nut cookies (double batch)

I’m not feeling perky today, I think I’m getting a cold.  I woke up last night at 2:30 and had insomnia. . .sooooo, I’m tired.  And my eyes hurt.  However, a mama still has to do something to fill up the day so we did our typical homeschooling, typical laundry and whatnot, and then I made a big batch of cookies, with help from Ethan, David, and Caleb.

I barely had room to maneuver between the two chairs (the kitchenaid mixer is there on the counter, you just can’t see it because I’m in the way).  But I loved it.

We had the cookies all mixed up in record time.  Then we got to taste the dough.

I was left alone to bake tray after tray of cookies. . . . .

Of course once I began pulling them from the oven the children started appearing again.

Today I am thankful . . . . . .

~for the refreshing mild weather

~that Rich is coming home early (2:30!!!)

~that it’s Friday

~my mom, I got to talk to her for a while on the phone last night and she was encouraging to me

~my dad, who surprised me with a happy uplifting email today

~for clean crisp sheets on my bed, ’cause I’m going to take a nap as soon as my husband appears!

Rich bought me an ipod last weekend.  What songs do you think I should put on it?  Any advice or suggestions for me, a first time ipod user?

Happy weekend to each and all of you!

  1. You know I would vote for Chris Rice, but I also love Sara Groves, Jaden Lavik, and Point of Grace….just to name a few.
I did not get much sleep last night either…Meg was up when I got home last night and then was up at 5 am this morning …and hasn’t gotten back to sleep.  Which means I didn’t get back to sleep. I’m going to try and catch a nap – but we will see.

  2. I too am I first time ipod user šŸ™‚ Robert just bought one for me about two months ago – these days I’ve been down it has been wonderful to have – in bed, I have my own private worship service with Jesus – with one earphone it lol so I can still hear the children šŸ™‚ I also enjoy it when I am normally well and go for a jog – there is nothing to me quite like wonderful music and being in nature – it is so motivating.Have fun with your’s!

  3. I hope you’re able to get some rest.  When will you be listening to it?  In the car, on your walks?  What would you like to listen to at those times you plan on using it.  I’ve heard that they hold a lot of music.  I would do stuff you don’t already listen to, so you don’t get sick of things.  love ya! Lish

  4. Those cookies look wonderful.  As for the ipod….I would like to get one too. Just to have the music I like alltogether in one space would be great.
Enjoy your afternoon with your husband.

  5. Oh and I just happen to have some chocolate chips (the dark kind) in the cupboard and B is coming home tomorrow. What a great idea.! Your’s look so perfect. I have been praying for you today. You were supposed to get some rest honey!

  6. Good job for making cookies with the kids, even when you probably would have rather been curled up on the couch.  The cookies look scrumptious!  Hope you are getting some rest now with Rich home early (what a blessing).  As for the ipod, I usually listen to mine in the car (I have an FM transmitter).  I have lots of music, but I also like to put books on it.  Listening to a book makes the long drives to Anchorage go much faster.

  7. You are amazing! I love the way you love your children, and husband….you are doing a great job!
Hope you feel better and rest as much as you can in Rich’s arms let him just hold you and maybe he can paint your toes and then massage your feet after they are dry.
**Jason was always so good with doing that when I was big-n-pregnant he would line me then Abbie and Naomi up on the couch and do all of our toes!(He would say funy things like….in my mind I am painting a sports car)LOL**
    LOVE YA

  8. As far as iPod suggestions……for worshipful and deep meaning, I recommend anything from Keith & Kirsten Getty (they wrote In Christ Alone) and my favorite female vocalist, Kathryn Scott. YOu can look them up on itunes or any place Christian music is sold!If you need any more recommendations, I have like 5 days worth of music to listen to on mine! ENJOY!!!

  9. For your IPOD – how about “Quiet Beauty” by James Todd????? !!!! LOL !!!!Seriously, I have 2 CD’s by The Antrim Mennonite Choir called “Amazing Grace” and “Hymns of Faith” – all a cappella vocals and absolutely beautiful.

  10. I want those cookies soo badly right now!! Way to go on being happy maneuvering around chairs… I got so frustrated when I am tripping over stuff (ie. kids) in the kitchen! I am not sure why God thought me capable of handling four of them so close together!

  11. Music? I like a wide variety…and they all have to be ones that I LOVE!- for different reasons. My first Itunes purchases were all the love songs that DH and I have special memories attached..then my fave Sovereign Grace songs – like the Precious Blood…I like soundtracks (I never tire of P&P or Little Women) and quiet celtic stuff….Giving another person ideas for music is a tough one, you know? It is really your choice. Only you know what you like. You know what you will really listen to, what will calm your soul, or get you movin’ when you need that, too! I find myself listening to others’ playlists to expose myself to different choices, too. I think you are blessed with a husband who is thoughtful and kind…and then your family sounds so tuned into what you need from them. It’s a gift, you know. God provides exactly what you need.Amen?Happy weekend! Have the kids chow down a big cookie for me!:)

  12. Are you going to post a recipe for those cookies?? They look amazing…. IPOD – I LOVE mine. Find your favorite CDs and upload them to itunes on your computer. Don’t care for one of the songs on the CD? You can pick and chose which songs you put on your ipod. Also, itunes has free podcasts – all your favorite pastors’ sermons – Dr. Charles Stanley, RC Sproul (Jr. too)my favorite – Greg Laurie, Frances Chan. Sooo many good things to listen to. I am careful not to listen to my ipod when my family is around me. But we ordered a table top Bose ipod player, so I can listen to things without shutting out my family. Have fun!

  13. @Mrs_LeFevour – great tip about the sermons.  I subscribed to Keylife w/Steve Brown, and also John Piper and RC Sproul.  Also, I don’t wear the ear things, mine got accidently glued to a mouse trap (those sticky ones). . .don’t ask!!!  It was “one of those awful stressful moments” when I discovered them……LOL….we have one of those table top speaker things, too, so I can just plug in the ipod and listen w/everyone.  The kids have learned to find their favorite songs. . . .

  14. Hmmm…music.  Here’s a few I have on mine…
Derek Webb, Sandra McCracken, Indelible Grace, Jars of Clay, Andrew Peterson, Caedmon’s Call, Ben Shive, Brooke Fraser, Jill Phillips, Stephen Delopoulos, Waterdeep.
You can go to http://www.noisetrade.com and get a lot of indie Christian music MP3 files and you pick the price or you get it free if you send the ad to 5 friends.  You can get most of the artists mentioned above there.  Have fun!
    P.S. I ā¤ George Winston!

  15. Lovely photos! Those cookies look delicious! I hope you were able to get some much needed rest. Pregnant mamas need lots of down-time although I know it’s tough when there are other childrent to care for!
Under the Tuscan Sun ~ loved the book and the movie. The scenery is just breathtaking!

  16. Okay… your cookie pictures literally made my mouth water! They look sooooo good! I will have to make my own batch here soon! And Shanda… you look great! Pregnancy definitely agrees with you!

  17. oooh, you are getting me in the mood to make chocolate chunk cookies!  yumm!  I love the way you are with your kids.  šŸ™‚  I hope God blessed you with a nap today.  For your ipod, create different ‘playlists’  You can make a Christian playlist to help you worship and meditate on God.  You can have a mixed playlist of upbeat songs to listen to while exercising and cleaning the house.  You can add a classical music playlist or create a playlist with another music type that ‘moves you’ to listen to while you create (for crafting, sewing, creating stuff).  šŸ™‚  I have several playlists on my mp3 player and they all fit different moods I am or different things I am doing.   Enjoy!

  18. I was turned on to your blog by broncomom a while back and have been blessed to see a ‘normal’ gal raising a family and trusting the Lord through everyday situations. I needed to send off a comment regarding music, however: Sovereign Grace Ministries put out a CD of songs inspired by the Puritan prayers in the Valley Of Vision collection. Not only do we wake up to it every morning, but it’s now become my standards for singing solos in church. Good music, solid doctrine and a great addition to any iPod!
