This morning, at 9:30, I had what I thought would be just a regular O.B. doctor’s appointment. After I had my check up, my doctor reminded me that I had a scheduled ultrasound on Wednesday and then said, “You guys don’t want to know the sex of the baby, right?”
“Yes we do! We can’t wait to find out!” I replied.
“Oh, you do want to know? Do you want me to check right now? We can cheat a little. . .”
So. . . . . . .I agreed. I only had Caleb and Grace with me, the older boys were at home. My doctor turned on the ultrasound machine and we all excitedly awaited the news. Even my doctor was excited.
After scanning around a bit on my tummy, and talking to the kids about what the screen was showing, she laughed and turned to me, and mouthed,
“It’s another boy!”
“Are you serious?”
“Yes.”
She showed me “the part” on the screen several times. . .so, I’m 99% positive that the baby I am carrying IS A BOY.
I told Grace myself and she was very quiet, but after it sunk in she was A-OK which I knew she would be. She said the part that made her sad was that she really wants to share a room with somebody. So, I told her the baby could be in her room with her for a while and that cheered her up.
I called Rich and told him. He’s so wonderful. . . .he said, “I don’t want you to be sad that it isn’t a girl, this is our baby boy!”
We both are falling in love with the idea of a new son. I kid you not, I have tears in my eyes as I write this, because I’m so happy. And now I’ll be looking forward to actually holding him in my arms and kissing his little face.
Even though he’s our fifth son/sixth child, HE IS ALSO MY FIRST because each baby is special and unique. He is just as special as any of the other children. He’s not a rerun or a “here we go again”. He’s our NEW baby and we are all so happy.
“This is the Lord’s doing, it is marvelous in our eyes.” Psalm 118:23
After my appointment, Grace, Caleb, and I went to the IParty store and bought some helium balloons–one pink, five blue, and one “announcement balloon”. Then, we went to a toy store and bought the baby a stuffed bear. We came home and I said to Jacob and Ethan, “We have some news for you!!!” And they looked at the balloons and said, “It’s a boy???” and they were smiling from ear to ear.
What a day! It’s the first day of fall and the day I found out I was having a boy! I’m so excited that I think I need to go lay down for a while. . . . . . . . .then, we can celebrate some more!

I go to the doctor today too. Congrats!! I’ve heard a rumor that when God gives a mother a lot of boys, it is because He has equipped her to raise leaders. Blessed are you!!! I think Grace may need another kitten. π
wow! That is exciting!! You were not even expecting it today!!! Congrads….that is great news boy or girl… b/c you know that it is a gift from God and you have another gift of a boy! π I am so happy for you all!
CONGRATS!
Congratulations =] Happy Fall!!!
OH MY you know how I feel Shanda you are so very blessed not many women can say that they have 5 sons hahaha I love you all and thanks for calling to tell me I am so proud!
That’s wonderful!
Absolutely fabulous news my friend!!
Congratulations!!! We are so happy for you…..I have tears in my eyes. I think you and Grace are very special, and the Lord is blessing you with all these wonderful boys. So we celebrate with you….and what a wonderful helper Grace will be. Perfect that she can have the baby some of the time in her room. I am sure you will have a lot of helpers! What a fabulous suprise.
When we had David, I only had one ultrasound when he was too small to see if he was a boy or a girl. People would always make comments…”oh, trying for that girl”…because he was born 8 years after our second son. During the pregnancy, during prayer, I had on two seperate occasions, a man tell me it was a boy. So all along I expected another son. He has been such a blessing to us. God always knows Lots of love, Jenny
P.S. I like what Geidlbots said and believe it must be quite true…all of it, even the kitten part. : )
Congrats! That is so exciting!
And that picture is adorable. She is so beautiful!
I always wanted to know too, if they could tell. How exciting! And if Grace needs another girl with a house full of brothers to talk too, I’m sure Anna would be glad to lend an ear…. :o) She reminds me of my Anna~
Awwww! I was just at a friend’s site, Julie, who had a birthday for her brand newborn baby grandson! What a neat idea to celebrate before the child is one year old!I’m happy for you and so glad you are happy too. I didn’t really think you’d be disappointed either way! π
Oh wonderful! Blessings to you and yours.
Woooohooo! I’m so happy for you! π Now you can narrow down your search for a 5 letter name….and only have to brainstorm for boys names!! (grin)
yay – another boy!congratulations.
Hooray! Another fine looking young man, (I’m for sure) for you to raise! Congratulations!
I loved what you did with the ballons to celebrate this new life! Each child brings their own new excitement, it’s fun to share that with your other children too. Congratulations on another bundle of blue!
Congratulations!! I love baby boys. I love baby girls too. I just love babies. π You are so blessed… *Penny

hearty congratulations! I have 5 boys!!
Our sweet girls are extremely special in the sea of all these boys! What wonderful blessings children are! Can’t wait to meet this new little one!
Congrats! My husband came from a family with five boys and a girl and I cam from a family with the exact reverse-even the placement of the lonely gender.
Congratulations!!
To let the baby sleep in Grace’s room ~ what a special thing ~ I know she will so enjoy that. Congratulations ~ does he have a name yet?
Yeah! Our baby is due in just 13 days…and you made ME get tears in my eyes. We are so excited for our little #2…and yet, like you said, #1!
Congratulations, how exciting. I can say having 5 boys in the house is alot of FUN. Tell Grace she can keep on praying for a baby sister and the Lord my give her one someday. Or perhaps he will give her 5 daughters of her own, LOL.
I like how Grace’s pink balloon looks bigger and higher the the rest. Like she is the Princess surrounded by her knights.
Awww, how wonderful! Congrats again! Suz
I cannot imagine it being any other way now! Of course you are going to be a mommy to so many young men, it is perfect in every way!!!
I love both pictures what a fun way to tell us all!
Much love, JO
Congratulations on having another son………..they are a blessing!
Congratulations!!!
How beautiful it is to see your outlook on boy #5. I have six tall brothers and I was always a bit jealous of the attention they got wherever they went and to this day they are as close as ever. It’s beautiful… God be with you and your family.
Congrats. That is so exciting!
How wonderful!

Aw, wonderful news! You know I love boys! π Congratulations, hun. Love ya!
I can’t believe it 5 boys! You are a great mommy…and now I know that me and my girls are going to have to come for a visit. Just so Grace can have some girly time and we can out number the boys for just a couple of months more.
Really I am excited for you. A new baby is so special and God always knows what He is doing when he chooses that special one for us.
Love ~Colleen~
How exciting! I’m also having a boy, and we are thrilled π
w00t! w00t!Good for you all!You will now have your own team.I must admit feeling a little bit sad for Grace…but she will maintain her princess status!:DCongratulations!!!!!Dawnxo
Congrats. There is just something about baby boys. I LOVE my girls, but oh that sweet baby boy scent.
Congratulations Shanda! And as another perk, you have lots of boy’s stuff, so you’ll only need the basics and then just “fun” things!
I have a sister that has 10 boys. A girl is the oldest and a girl is next to the youngest. She had about given up by the time the little girl at the end came along.
Congratulations. God is so good!
LOL! My best friend and my doula keep having GIRLS. Best friend has four girls, one boy. Doula has 7 girls, two boys (some adopted). The boys in each are eagerly waiting to have a boy so they too can “share their room”.
These women have taught me, as you have said, that each baby is “new” because they are all unique. I SO long for our forever, large family. At 33 years of age i feel very behind on that dream with our Miracle Rose, but in God’s time, I guess we’re not.
Congrats on your baby boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Exciting news!!
Congratulations Shan! I’m so excited for you and your whole family!
I came back to tell you that I found your recipe for baked oatmeal from last year, and I just whipped it up to bake in the morning…it smells/tastes fabulous. I could have sworn I left you a note on here earlier, but I just looked through and there’s nothing from me? π¦ Weird! Anyway, congratulations on the little boy…you know I love boys, that’s for sure. π Hope you had a lovely day, take care. Love, Trish
Congrats to you on another bouncin’ baby boy! We have 4 boys….and when I was pregnant with baby #6, I was sure it would be boy #5–I was wrong–it was a girl! Our daughter was ecstatic, although she would have been with a boy also. Now we are expecting #7–just announced it on my blog yesterday π We haven’t decided yet if we will find out what we’re having–I kinda like the surprise after all that hard work! Anyway, baby boys are truly precious–so happy for you!
Congratulations and blessings to all of you! Rejoicing with you!!!!!
