“Mother’s Empire” (to encourage)

“The queen that sits upon the throne of home, crowned and sceptered as none other ever can be, is mother.  Her enthronement is complete, her reign unrivaled, and the moral issues of her empire are eternal.  ‘Her children rise up, and call her blessed.’  Rebellious, at times, as the subjects of her government may be, she rules them with marvelous patience, winning tenderness and undying love.”

“John Randolph was once heard to say that only one thing saved him from atheism, and that was the tender remembrance of the hour when a devout mother, kneeling by his side, took his little hand in hers, and taught him to say ‘Our Father, who art in Heaven.'”

“Fathers, mothers, let the home go with your children to Jesus, let it go with them at every step, to cheer them in every struggle, until from the very crest of the cold wave that bears them from you forever, they shout back their joy over a home on earth, that helped them rise to a home in heaven.”

“Are you a mother?  Then your position is one of the most favorable on the face of the earth for carrying out this noble principle.  Dignity and power are given to you; responsibility is laid upon you; for you are intrusted with the dependent little immortals.”  ~Christian Treasury

  1. So precious!!!  Okay, which boy is in picture #5 (trying to stand on his own)?  He looks like Caleb, but I can tell the picture must be older than that, right???

  2. “Fathers, mothers, let the home go with your children to Jesus…” very good words! the pictures are all so sweet ~ you truly embrace motherhood with JOY and it shows! you’re beautiful ALL THE WAY THROUGH! 🙂 sending love your way~ a.((NOW off to do those dishes!))

  3. @roseteacup – I hoped that this post would not make “wife” seem less significant than “mother”.  Rich always will come first in my life, but for me, these days it seems much harder to be “mother” with God’s joy in my heart. . .that’s why I found these quotes so encouraging today.  You are a beautiful example to me, of a loving WIFE and mother. . . .thanks for your encouragment.  XOXO

  4. Your post is so timely for me as I reflect on the life of my grandmother. Her Godly life has influenced over 400 direct descendants. It about blows my mind but also instills in me the responsibility I have to carry on the faith! Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful post with us.

  5. This was great! I’m making Jesse take me furniture shopping this week-end to pick out my “throne” and I know exactly where I’ll put it!!!! Just teasing! Enjoyed your post and pictures!

  6. We have such a great responsibility as mothers to raise our children to love the Lord. Oh how our view and relationship with them reflects of how God loves and cherishes us. Thanks for the encouragement. BTW….I listen to your playlist alot.

  7. enjoyed the pictures of you and the children~ 🙂 it is a gift from the Lord to be a mother — so often it can be taken for granted… I’ve known so many women who cannot have children… walked through the valley w/ close friends who cry each night because for whatever reason, motherhood just isn’t happening for them… no children to love to nurture. Motherhood is a wonderful calling, it is also… something we cannot find our significance in… yet at the same time, when given the gift of motherhood, throwing our heart into it 100% ! I am so humbled that God would give me the opportunity to be a mother. wow.sweet quotes here – enjoyed them!

  8. Thank you for more beautiful encouragement and for sharing your piece of heaven! It’s SO green there!!!! The quotes on MOthers and Motherhood are fabulous reminders of why we Moms are here! I’ll use some of them when I go to my Mom’s In Touch meeting next week. I hope you have a RESTFUL weekend w/your family! HUgs, Gail

  9. I am so thankful for my own godly mother and the influence she had and still has on my life. Now, I am very aware of the great responsibility I have and what a privilege God has given me with these children. Thanks for the great quotes and sweet pictures.

  10. Hey!!! I have the second one up from the bottom hanging in my kitchen!!!!
The quote that spoke to me the most was the one about kneeling and praying the Lord’s prayer with his Mother.
Really great pictures Shanda, you are a beautiful Mommy!!!

  11. These being said are so true. I know when my mother falls, the family slips as well. Even after the death of my grandmother the glue that held the family weakened.

So I am vastly aware that even though I do not have the boys under my roof, how I am effects how they will be as well.

  12. As one who is struggling to find joy in the day to day tasks of mothering, this was a great read. however, my brain is mush and I will probably forget everything I read when they wake up from naptime and I have to face it all over again!! thanks for the encouragement and pictures (who takes the pictures of you with your kids?… I feel like I have so few like that because I am always the one with the camera. do you ask someone or does it just happen?)

  13. @parresia – My husband takes them, or one of my older boys.  Even my 5 year old tries now and then (but none of his are pictured here, LOL)  The last one was using my self-timer on my camera.  I had put it up on a rock.  Thanks for the comment!  My brain has been feeling like mush lately.  That’s why I need these quotes!!  I hoped that others might need the encouragment as well.  Happy Friday to you!

  14. Shanda, I just love the theme of this comment. The quotes have touched my heart and sent me off into a reverie of remembering when my boys were little. I loved that time in our lives. Nothing felt better than having my boys fed, bathed, read to, prayers and hugs and tucked up safely for another night in our sacred family home.  I am truly blessed with a wonderful, strong loving husband and two beautiful boys. Family and  Motherhood are surely one of life’s greatest blessings.  I have just realised that I am one of those “older, experienced” mothers who can suggest advice – where on earth did those years go!!!  Thank you, as always, for finding the time to share with us.  I just love reading about your beautiful family life. x
