Hi, I’m Caleb.  I want to tell you about my pond.

My pond is so great.  Last year, when I was a baby, I was scared to go into my pond.  But now that I’m a big boy, I go swimming almost every day.

My big brothers and my big sister go swimming, too.  But they do tricks and they swim in the middle of my pond and I can’t do that yet.

Sometimes they try to hold on to me and take me away from the edge but I yell real loud and so they let me go.  I tell them, “I NOT LIKE THAT.”  That makes them go away.

They swim and do tricks and I stay on the edge by myself.  My mommy calls it “my own little world.”

My mommy puts my jacket on me.  A long time ago (my mommy says it was just last week) I used to swim with my jacket on and not any clothes.  But yesterday my mommy said that was enough of that so now I have to keep my pants on.

It was okay though.  I go in the water and I swim all by myself.  I can touch the bottom of my pond with my hands and that is how I go forward.  It is swimming!  I go all the way to the jumping rock.  Then I get out and run back to where I started from.

I have to be careful.  Sometimes I get a lot of my pond in my mouth and that is when I start to choke a lot.  My mom does not care.  She just sits where she is and makes sure I am okay.  I know what to do.  I go and sit on the grass and choke and choke until the water is out.

Yesterday when we were waiting for our Daddy to get home, we were swimming.  My mommy put a jacket on me that I was not used to.  It made me roll over on my back while I was swimming.  I not like that.  I yelled.  My mommy came running and asked me if I flipped over.  I said I was a boat.  It happened two more times.  It was scary.

When I was swimming it started to rain.  I did not know what to think at first.  My mommy took some pictures of me and then she said real loud, “I’m getting wet, Caleb, let’s run to the house!”  She took my jacket off.  I got mad because my mean mommy made me run to the house on my own two feet.  She did not carry me.  She said it was because her hands were full but I saw her carry a lot more stuff than that before.

When we got to the house she took my wet clothes off real fast and got me warm in a towel.  I was still mad, but I felt much better after a good dinner.

My pond is so much fun.  I hope someday you can swim in my pond with me.  We would have so much fun.

Next week I will be three years old.  I will want a lot of choo-choos for my birthday.

The end.

  1. Hi Caleb!! Thank you for sharing your story about your pond! My little boys love choo-choos too! We are going to see Thomas the Train! How fun! I bet you would have alot of fun playing with them.
Have fun with your brothers & sisters today, and be a big helper to your Mommy!!!
    Love, Miss Heather =)

  2. Good morning Caleb. You have written a great blog. I think I was most impressed with your ability to spell and correctly use contractions. It is apparent that you have a great teacher. So… now it looks like you get to be a big brother. What do you think of that?

  3. Oh Caleb!! Your pond sounds like so much fun! It won’t be too long and you’ll be doing tricks like those big brothers! You are soon to be 3!! Wow! What a big boy!!Shanda, I loved this post!! I am laying here with a giant smile on my face! It was so sweet!

  4. I’m afraid I identify with Caleb waaaaa too much!!! I was always afraid to go out far in a pond or lake. *I* can swim, but I was afraid of what also might be swimming with me!!! I prefer a pool where you can see to the bottom drain!!I’ve seen you carry more stuff too, Shanda. What are you – pregnant or something? !!! LOL !!!

  5. Dear Caleb, I know a little boy named Jake-Jake that would love to come explore your pond with you. He doesn’t like to get away from the edge either….and you know what else? HE TOO likes Thomas the Train. I think you boys would have a swell time together! šŸ™‚
Thanks for taking the time out of your morning play time to write to us. šŸ™‚

  6. Good Morning Shanda…..Cute story. My 7 yr old son won’t go swimming at all. Not even to watch! Hope he comes out of that fear of being in water. I like the pics…the one with paint all over his hands….so funny! Do you have any weird cravings yet? Thanks for sharing your pics and stories about your boys and your daughter. Have a wonderful day!

  7. I love life from the eyes of a child! I’m so glad you let them swim in the pond. I grew up alongside a river and we would go swimming every day in the summer. I have the best childhood memories and I thank my mother and father for them. You are one great mom!

  8. this is wonderful. just wonderful – what a delight to have a pond. it seems, rather romantic to me in just writing it — hehe. I’m feeling a bit Anne Shirley today I suppose. Does your pond have a name?I love the pictures. I have a little boy whose name starts with a C that is the same age. He has to wear a jacket too when we swim in our River. He doesn’t like to walk on his feet sometimes too and though he loves his mommy and is learning to love Jesus, sometimes distracting with a good dinner works wonders for him as well ~ :)Caleb, Caedman would love to play in your pond with you in his jacket.

  9. He is so cute!   Wow he’s going to be 3?!   I bet he would love some new Choo Choo’s for his birthday:)   That’s funny the last picture he does look mad:)

  10. Dear Caleby, Happy almost Third birthday mister pond-boy. Thank you for sharing your pond with all of us. We have all enjoyed reading about it and seeing your pictures. Was the water cold honey?  Or did it feel just right? Do you have froggies in your pond? I have some in my back yard. They sing so loudly back and forth to each other.  They like to swim in my little fountain. Have a wonderful summer dear Caleb. Happy choo choo birthday sweetheart. Give mom a break from time to time and be a big helper, because you get to be big brother some day soon. I love you, Grannyroseteacup HUGS

  11. How sweet!  Is his birthday the 8th or 9th?  I forget.  My older girls went swimming in a pond yesterday.  I think it reached a high of 62 degrees- they thought it was hot!

  12. Caleb, your pond is so green, and must be so refreshing!  I was wondering how old you are now…..almost three!  Happy summer, happy days!

  13. Hi Caleb, Dont worry your mommy really isn’t mean she is just showing her love for you! Sounds like you had a fun day! Jyllie doesn’t have a pond but a little pool and loves to go swiming too.
    Love cousin Erika

  14. Hi! My name is Jacob. I am three years old but I still usually tell people that I am two. I wike your pond and I will swim with you and play trains. I like tractors best and I sleep with one on my pillow. I get mad about the same stuff. Maybe we could swap notes on parent training! Thanks for writing. Love, Jacob

  15. You “mean” mommie. I am not a pond swimmer…I rather like the idea of sitting on the edge in my own little world too. Adorable..simply adorable.Did you get the recipe?

  16. Caleb, i loved hearing about your pond! i wondered if the frogs ever bite at your toes.. šŸ™‚ maybe they think you’re a giant frog!! =D i have a little girl who is almost 3 too. she cries when i make her wear her jacket. she thinks she can swim like her big brother and sister, but she can’t. not yet. but she’ll learn – just like you will. someday you’ll be flying high off the jumping rock – no jacket at all- making a big splash right in the middle of pond. maybe your splash will be so big you’ll bounce all the frogs right up out of the water!! now that would be funny wouldn’t it? :)hope you have a wonderful day there – swimming in your pond. maybe one day we’ll come over and go for a swim with you!! =D give your mommy a hug from me!! Love, Mrs. Hutchins

  17. oh my – can I have him? Ok no – well then I’ll bring my boys to come and swim in the pond with Caleb. Actually, they will want to swim with your big boys but your write up was precious. Hope you are feeling better.

  18. Cute story- what a handsome little guy you have there! Congrats on the new baby- how does this baby feel about that new little one coming along? This is the kind of stuff long term memories are made of- keep it up momma!
