On Sunday, when I was home with Grace, I had the most wonderful time reading Romans. I intended to read the whole book straight through but I was FULL by chapter 8, (stuffed, really). . . . .satisfied in the truths and beauty of God’s word.
Here are some of the verses that stood out to me~
Purpose of the law~ “that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. . .by the law is the knowledge of sin.” 3:part of 19, part of 20
“We conclude that a man is justified by FAITH without the deeds of the law” 3:28
“Seeing it is ONE GOD, which shall justify the circumcision BY FAITH, AND uncircumsicion THROUGH FAITH. Do we then make void the law through faith? GOD FORBID, yea, we ESTABLISH the law.” 3:30,31
“Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.” 4:3
“to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” 4:5
“He staggered NOT at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God” 4:20 I was so convicted of my own weak faith, I had to stop and beg forgiveness. . .what a beautiful verse!
“Jesus. . .who was delivered for our offenses, and was RAISED AGAIN for our justification.” 4:35 Thank you doesn’t seem expressive enough.
“For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a GOOD MAN some would even dare to die. BUT God commendeth his love toward us, in that WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS (!!!) CHRIST DIED FOR US.” 5:7,8 Amazing! Jesus gave his life for sinners. Only GOD could do that.
“For if through the offense of one (Adam) many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.” 5:15 (end of verse) God goes above and beyond what we hope and ask. “much more” “abounded unto many”
“by the righteousness of ONE THE FREE GIFT CAME” portion of 5:18 Don’t you love that phrase, “free gift”???
“Moreover the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, GRACE DID MUCH MORE ABOUND.” 5:20 God is generous, not just a “bakers dozen” kind of generosity. . .but more and more and more until we are overwhelmed and lost in His goodness.
I copied quite a bit more in my journal, especially Romans 8:22-27
I’ll stop sharing for now, though. I was so thankful to have that time in my Bible on Sunday, it was something I really needed. . .and I’ve had so many of these ideas and phrases running through my head since then. Romans, in the past, was so confusing, but now I am able to read and understand more than I used to. This has greatly encouraged me, because it proves that God is WORKING on me, and growing me. I am so happy about that!

Last night, an excavator (I called it a bulldozer and Rich was quick to correct me) was dropped off next to the house. It will be used today to start digging and preparing the ground for the foundation of our garage. I had to take advantage of a photo opportunity!!
Future Excavators of America?
It’s going to be an absolutely gorgeous day today! Stop on by, if you’re in our neck of the woods! ~

What is there about boys and big machinery? I love Romans, too. What a wonderful, meaty book it is! I have a computer program that lets me read it in seven different versions! Although my all time favorite version is King James, (That’s what I grew up with, and I have so much of it memorized) I love flipping back and forth and really digging. Sometimes there is a passage which is not entirely clear and the Amplified clears it up. The Bible program also has several commentaries, so if I am really stuck, I can look in those. God’s word is just so amazing! Hope you are enjoying that beautiful day. HUGS from Denmark!
Staggered not (Romans 4:20) always grabs me. Me thinks I “stagger” in my faith way too many times.
Love the pictures.
I just LOVE the pictures of the boys with that huge machine, especially the first one of little Caleb! Thanks for sharing from your time in Romans; I loved what you mentioned about the Holy Spirit instructing and growing us in our understanding of the Word – true and so beautiful.
Romans is one of my favorite books- there are so many wonderful nuggets in the book!!! 🙂
I would have called the tractor by your house a “scooper tractor”. LOL. You did better than me!!!
I enjoyed reading your post & you sharing the word with us. It is nice to be able to have that time to sit down to read. Those pictures are so cute! I like the first one of Caleb the expression on his face is so good!
Caleb’s expression is so cute! I’m sure your kids will love watching all the work going on at your house.
Last fall Beth Moore was doing a series on Romans, it was wonderful. I never did finish it though, sigh.
I like the book of Romans, too!I sure hope the bulldozer (uh, excavator) guy didn’t leave the key. You might end up with more than a garage dug! A swimming pool, another pond, your vehicles buried . . . !!!! LOL !!!!
What wonderful verses. I think I will read Romans also. Thank you.
I love to read in Romans and I love Romans 8. Happy that you had some time to really dig into the Word and let if feed your spirit and renew your mind. Glenn would love to have that excavtor in our yard, he loves huge machinery like that. Anyway, cute cute pics of your boys on it. Priceless. I hope you are doing well and we are going to have to catch up soon. Have a blessed day friend.
super fuN! my Ben would love it. he actually says he wants to be an excavator driver someday~ =D
The Word of our Father is so ALIVE…as I read the verses you chose, chils rain up my arms…for a moment everything was so clear, so true.LOL over the pictures. Boys and big toys!
My boys would have been all over that excavator (and I too would have called it a bulldozer. . .they are all bulldozers to me). Hank especially just loves them, but calls them all tractors at the tender age of 2. . .:) They are building something new next to the grocery store where we usually shop, and seeing all the bulldozers is a highlight of his week!
My boys would love to have that thing parked in the backyard!!!
It is encouraging to find new revelation and understanding in the Word. Romans is so deep, I think every year there will be more and more as we grow. John Piper took nine years to preach through the book of Romans!
Did you enjoy your beautiful day?
Too Funny. I am glad that you were able to get full on God’s word. I am so grateful for those times and for access to God in so many ways. We will never stop growing and learning more about God–isn’t that exciting! Some days I wish I’d had “arrived”–you know those days when your exhausted–but the awesome thing is that God never changes and never will yet he is so big and awesome that we will never stop learning more about him. . . . what a mighty God we serve.
God’s grace — greater than all our sin!! Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace, freely bestowed to all who believe!!
Isn’t God so amazing? I don’t think I realized until I became a parent… While it is conceivable that we might give OUR lives for someone, would you ever be willing to give the life of YOUR CHILD??? And for your enemies, at that! I have one son; I cannot imagine giving up my only son–but that is what my God did for me! Amazing grace!
