Thanks for your prayers. We are back home. I’m thanking God for traveling mercies (the hospital is in our state capital and I hate driving through so much traffic). . and I’m also thanking God that David’s infection is only skin deep right now, just spread out pretty wide. It looks so scary. . . but thankfully it should start getting better soon. He is on strong antibiotics. The doc. thinks it might have been a venomous spider bite.
He’s on the couch, very weak and quiet.
I was awake most of last night, worried about him. He actually slept in bed with me, which I rarely do with my kids, so that shows how concerned I was. . .I didn’t want to be too far away.
Anyway. My soup should be warm now, I haven’t had anything to eat all day but a piece of white bread!
EDIT-
These are pictures I took of David yesterday morning. We were so excited that a “Davey” truck stopped just outside of our driveway, they were trimming the trees along our road.
It’s actually because of these workers that I first noticed how bad his tummy was. I picked him up from behind so he could see better, and he yelled out in pain. I was shocked when I lifted his shirt and saw how big it was, and that it was infected.
My brave little boy. . . .
And, here is his big boo-boo. I took him to his regular doctors yesterday and the Dr. drew around in it ink so that we could see how big it got overnight. The dark bruising developed overnight (it’s like a scab, with blisters forming on it) and it is what the ER people thought was a sign of a venomous bite.
See why I was (am) so worried? It looks awful and his pediatrician said he hasn’t seen anything like it in the 25 years he’s been in the practice.
Keep praying! We want that spot GONE! And our Father in heaven is a great Healer. . . .

I’m glad to hear he will be ok…I hope you both can get some rest today.
I’m so glad he’s doing better. I know how you hate hospitals and the traffic downtown. I’m glad you’re back home and it is was nothing more serious. Take care of your baby. 🙂
I am so glad to hear he is doing better. We will be thinking of you both and praying for a speedy recovery. Love you
Praise the lord, that he is doing better. I will still keep him in my prayers. :o) God bless

Whoa – even this seasoned Mom would have had her heart in her throat at the sight of that. Praise God for his protection on your son.
Oh, Shan that is so scary Steve Jeff and I are all gathered around the computer looking at his poor tummy.
I am so sorry!
Poor Davey! That looks like it hurts! I love that he was holding the Buzz that you found on our travels!
I will be praying that the antibiotics will work soon!
I would have been worried, too! I am glad he is going to be OK. It’s easy to see why it HURT, too! Poor little guy! I hope he got lots of ice cream!
Praise the Lord for His protection!
That is so scary Shanda~ I can’t bear to hear of any of your children injured. Praying for healing
You know, Shanda, seeing the circle drawn around the bite to see if it enlarged later on, reminded me that two years ago Jesse rushed Rissy to the E.R. with the same thing on the back of her hand – and she got the same circle drawn. They thought a venomous spider had bitten her while she crawled behind our backyard bushes and fence. I think they gave her an antibiotic and we were to watch her breathing (she has asthma and airway problems) and the size of the bite. She was fine after two days.
Oh the poor baby! I do hope he continues to heal and feel better. I know he’s one of the apples of your eye so I’m sure you’ve been quite worried about him. Take good care of him and his momma, ok?
our Shelton was got a venomous spider bite when he was just under a year. high, high fever, loss of all energy and movement, a red, purple center on his shoulder that then turned into the size of a quarter with the skin being eaten away. It was awful. I was away from Robert in another state when it happened. thought he was getting the flu and then put him in the bath to help take down the fever some and discovered the bite. Thank God for ER’s and doctors ~ the antibiotic was very helpful as well as some other stuff. It took him about a month to act normal speed again (course he was so young) – I remember how hard it was not to worry about him! I can understand the sleeping in bed at night — I did the same with Shelton. I wanted to just lie there with him as much as possible. Such a relief when you know all will be okay. Praying for you and for David. I know you trust the Lord with all your heart, I know too a mother’s heart and how deeply we want all to be just fine and our children to feel well and be well. Praying for healing. And poisonous spiders to be eaten by birds and other animals and such around your place. ~ ;)lys
oh my, I would be worried too!! Poor thing, and poor mom. PTL for doctors and medicine when we need it~
Oh dear, that looks SO scary! Glad he will be okay ~
Yes, I can certainly see why you are concerned! It’s so hard on a mother’s tender heart to see our children with injuries like that. It’s been awhile for me now, but I’ve had my share in years past, and I do know how you must feel … I will be keeping you both in my prayers, Shanda. Blessings ~
Oh my!!! So glad he’s ok!
whoa! that is one nasty looking thing – poor little dear!! thought of you lots today.. know that mommy heart that worries and watches every little movement and breath they take. so glad you caught it when you did and he’s on good meds. and under the best care of all – a family that adores him. and rightly so – – he’s such a DOLL! love the shots of him watching the Davy truck. how CUTE is that!!wishing you a good night’s sleep friend~
Wow – that IS scary looking!
Oh Shanda! That is a scary-looking bite! I’m so glad to hear that he is doing better and on antibiotics. I will keep praying for Davy to get completely better. I love the picture of him sitting on the driveway watching the “Davey” truck! Hope you have a restful night.
OH, my goodness! I can see why you were so concerned! I would have been out of my mind with worry! I will be praying that it GOES AWAY!!! How scary! Isn’t it great that our God is the Great Physician!!! Hope you get some rest! Know that I am praying for little David and you both!!
Oh my gosh, that is the worst bite I’ve ever seen. . .I can only imagine how I’d react to such a sight on my precious son. I am so sorry ya’ll have had to go through this, you and David, but praise God for His healing and good doctors. I prayed for you lots yesterday and will continue to pray for healing. Thanks for letting us know how he’s doing.
Wow! How scarey. I’d be sleeping with my baby too. I pray he will heal up very quickly and thank God for His protection over him.
I’ve never heard of Davey trucks. How fun for your Davey, that there was one right there for him to see!
Have a blessed day, a restful day and a day of healing.
Jana
Oh that is scary! I remember as kids we never thought about poisonous spiders, snakes, etc. as we ran through the woods but now that i have kids, I am very leary about them playing in the woods. Sat. we found a black widow spider in a pile of wood – we killed it, but I couldn’t sleep that night afraid of spiders biting my kids while they slept. And, I’m not so sure I wanna let my kids run outside barefood anymore. Have to keep praying for protection from harm.
I haven’t seen anything like it in 37 years of being a momma. Honey pie, that looks so nasty. I will be praying for dear David the Brave. I am glad you got good care for him. Poor Shanda as well… (((hugs))) with love and prayers in SC
I definitely would not be as brave as mr. david…tell him to hang in there…prayers goin up for david…
WOW that is scary. I am praying for David. Glad he is better too. Now take care of yourself hun. Eat more than bread. We have to be strong for our little ones.

I hope that bite goes away too! Love the photos especially him with the frog.
I am a little late reading this, how awful. At first I was thinking a nasty deer tick but then I read your doctor thinks poisonous spider. Do you have brown recluse spiders in CT?
Praying for full healing for David.
