Beloved, be familiar with the Word of God.

Stock your memory with the ancient records

of His great goodness.

Drink in the whole narrative of the evangelists,

and despise not Moses and the prophets.

Soak in the Psalms, the Song of Solomon,

and other such books until you come to know

the well-recorded goodness of the Lord.

Have His words and deeds of goodness

arranged and ready at hand.

Let them be at your finger tips, as it were,

because they are in your heart’s core.

Then you will be sure abundantly to utter

the memory of His goodness, for

“out of the abundance of the heart the mouth

speaketh”  (Matthew 12:34)

~C.H. Spurgeon

  1. How short our days on this earth are – we only have each day as God gives it to us – how much we need to lay aside the trivial and fill our minds with the truly valuable! Thanks for sharing this wonderful quote. ~Colleen~

  2. I love these words. I have written down verses that are especially encouraging to me and posted them on my kitchen cabinets. I write them on index cards and pretty them up with scrapbook stickers and the like. Then whenever I go to get something (often) I see the precious words of my Heavenly Father. What a little action, but it has made a big difference in my day-to-day. Thanks for sharing this quote!
