“God doesn’t do things willy-nilly.  Everything
has a purpose and meaning.  When God engaged to create
man and woman and to ordain the union of marriage,
He didn’t roll dice or draw straws or flip a coin.
He patterned marriage purposefully after the relationship
between His Son and the church, which He planned
from eternity.  And therefore marriage is a mystery;
it contains and conceals a meaning far greater
than what we see on the outside
What God has joined
together in marriage is to be a reflection of the union between
the Son of God and His bride the church
.

Those of us who are married need to ponder again and again
how mysterious and wonderful it is that we are granted
by God the privilege to image forth stupendous
divine realities infinitely bigger and greater than ourselves.”

Last night Rich came home with a dozen roses and a cheesecake.  We had a nice family dinner (Caleb swiped a whole tomato off the counter and ate it like an apple) and after the kids went to bed we stayed up watching TV for a while.

He left for work about an hour ago, with promises that after last night’s cheesecake (at least we shared it with the children), we would be eating healthy this weekend~we are both happy that it is FRIDAY.

Happy weekend to you all!

  1. So sweet.  I’m glad you had a nice evening.  I did too!  We just had some sweet time together…AT THE MALL.  Seriously.  We are NOT mall people AT ALL, but Dave really wanted to get some new sneakers.  We STILL didn’t find any!!!  It really was nice, though, just hanging out as a couple without the kids.  I had the thought that someday we will do that all the time when our babies are grown.  It made us misty-eyed….I don’t want to think about them growing up just yet…

  2. Thank you for a wonderful post yet again!   I love reading your posts so much.   You are a wonderful person!   I love cheesecake!!   That is so nice of him and the flowers to!   I’m glad you had a wonderful evening.   Have a great weekend!

  3. What a sweet post. Such great words from John Piper! Mmmm . . . . cheesecake. My hubby made me a cheesecake yesterday. It was delicious! If it wasn’t still morning, I would think about having a slice. πŸ™‚

  4. Nice pictures — you even had red on for the occasion! We took a nice little drive (in the sunshine) and had dinner at a quaint little restaurant we like in Tunkhannock, PA — it’s name is “Twigs”.

  5. Cheescake is my husband’s favorite…and a bite of his is all I ask. He brought me beautiful pink and red roses…THAT was my cheesecake. I did not make dessert this year…just a nice dinner. He was happy. God is GOOD!! I love the reminder that we, His body, are His bride. A bride will always try to please her groom…this is thought challenging. Thanks!

  6. It is so refreshing to know there are at least a few others in the world who still see marriage as a holy union of LOVE.  I can see how much the two of you love each other and it is so encouraging.
    Have a beautiful day!

  7. Beautiful quote ….I like what Piper said.  We have listened to a marriage series on DVD with a few other couples( by Norm Wakefield) and have enjoyed a renewed focus on thinking as “one”.  That is another way we are like Christ and the church….we are one in Him.  You two are a good witness for the Lord!  Isn’t that an extra blessing?!  The enemy has distorted the image of marriage.  What a blessing to know that God created and blessed it. I had a valentines morning with a baby (see my blog for pics) ….whew a challenge to homeschool….I know you know about that…but loved it anyway.  But had a restful evening with my husband

  8. I have a niece on my husband’s side, so she’s Asian, who has a college degree in piano pedigogy and home schools her five children.  Her husband is Caucasian.  This summer they are adopting a little Chinese girl who has a harelip.  This child is so lucky because she will have the best surgery and the happiest home that one can imagine.  I’ve told her about you and sent her a link to your site.  Both she and you inspire me.

  9. Cheesecake is indeed wonderful.  I like the Piper quote…we have two of his books, which I really enjoyed.  I’m glad you had such a nice evening with your husband.  Have a great weekend.  Love, Trish

  10. How sweet of Rich to bring you roses and cheesecake!  My two oldest made dinner for us last night.  They set the table with a red tablecloth and decorated it with candles and flowers that they had given me earlier in the day.  Hubby was able to go to work today, and only one kiddo has a fever today.  I pray that we are on the mend.  Thank you for sharing the marriage quote.

  11. Thanks for the book referal, Shanda.  I will see about getting it.  I still have a Border’s gift card from Christmas I haven’t completely used up.  I’m glad you had a nice Valentine’s Day.  At least I didn’t have to cook and I did get to see my husband for a short while.  I love cheesecake, but don’t often get many store bought desserts because my husband is allergic to wheat.  It’s in EVERYTHING! I really liked the quote especially the part about a marriage being a reflection of the union between the Son of God and His church.  Beautiful!  Have a beautiful weekend with your family.

  12. RYC: Yes. I am pretty much back to “normal.” Although, I don’t think my life is really very normal! LOL! My daughter and her husband didn’t want a traditional wedding cake, so they ordered lots of cheesecake from Juniors in NYC for their reception! It was GREAT!
