remember wearing socks for mittens?
remember making snow angels and the feel
of the icy snow gently falling on your skin?
remember the intense excitement?
of waiting and waiting for snow
and then finally having it come down?
remember making snowballs with your brother?
remember how the falling snow made everything feel dreamy?
remember the taste of snow?
It started snowing this morning.
We saw it start at breakfast time, and from the first flakes the kids were pulling on their snow stuff.
Ethan and David are the only ones out right now, and they’re sledding!
I wish you could watch them out the window with me, and see their smiles.
Jacob is in the kitchen, peeling and chopping potatoes for clam chowder.
Caleb is still in his green striped footie pj’s. I call him my little caterpillar.
And, Rich is home with us, working on his laptop. He’s sitting right by me as I type.
It’s cozy and nice being here at home together.

Lovely, lovely post! Thank you. I must admit that as I have gotten older I have seen the snow more as a chilly bother. Thanks for reminding me of the magic!
Oh my! Is that what it’s doing there now? Nice pictures!
In Southern, Ontario,Canada, still waiting for our first snow…
What beautiful pictures. We had a few snow flurries the other day here in Ohio, but it’s still too warm for anything to stick. My 4 year old BS immediately wanted to put on her snowpants, too!
OH SHANDA! How wonderfully delightful! I got shivers of joy looking at your pictures…the detail of the red berries just clinched the feeling…and then the sweet words of having all your family about you o this magical day of the 1st snow
We’re enjoying the snow, too. It was an unexpected joy today. Ainsley played outside with the dogs for an hour before I made her come inside because it was so cold. I’m making soup, too. π It’s the perfect day for a good soup in the crock pot.
Our “first snow” was last week. But we woke to about 3 inches yesterday…but I was a mean mommy and made my kids do schoolwork before going out to play. Meg and Madelynn both went out and played by 10:30 though. I’m glad your kids were having so much fun with the first snow. Madelynn has been so excited to find ice on the ground for the last couple of weeks.
Wow snow!!! We usually don’t get any until January, or February. The kids look like they are having such a great time! Must be a good day for soup, I’m cooking a chicken in the crock pot to make chicken noodle soup & slippery chicken pot pie.
Enjoy your day inside! While the snow is falling outside, how was your chicken?
Oh Shanda, isn’t it fun to take pictures of snow coming down? How beautiful ~
how fun — its beautiful!
aww, what lovely photos! I really like the one with the red berries!
mmm… although i am no a huge fan of winter, these pctures do make me wish for a bit of snow. we had or first flurries last week, but not enough to acumulate or warant a trip outside to play.
So glad that you are blessed to enjoy the richness of God’s goodness. It is beautiful there.
Beautiful, delightful post.
Let it snow, let it snow, let is snow! I love winter time and am ready for it to come. One Xanga post I read this morning was talking about how she was out doing yard work and the weather was so mild for the end of Nov. and now I see you have snow.
The little snow angel sure brought back memories. You do such a great job of capturing life at your house on film. I hope you don’t mind but I’m going to go into my mother’s Xanga site and subscribe your site for her. I know she would love it. Her site is MargartHeatwole.
Awesome post you are so cleaver looks like fun! Blessings on Thanksgiving!
How beautiful are those shots you took through the falling snow! I’m so glad Rich is home with you, and not still driving for many hours! And how cozy it must be to look out to the snow from the warm house, with all your family around you. A beautiful post!
Ohhhh it is just around the corner for us! Any day now! Thanks for getting me EXCITED about snow!
I am so thankful I found your blog! It encourages me and it is a peaceful haven to come to each day. Thank you!

WOW! The only time I’ve ever seen snow before Thanksgiving was when we lived in Russia! There is nothing like that first snow, however. . .so thrilling. . .makes me feel 8 years old again. We are all hoping we’ll get a good snow this winter now that we’ve moved from South Carolina (a real rarity there!) to North Carolina. Happy Thanksgiving!
I can’t believe it’s snowing already!! It seems all your kids were just running around outside barefoot and now look at them all bundled up. Your day sounds positively cozy with chowder, snow, kids, and husband all together.
Oh how perfectly lovely!! What sweet pictures and fun times. I’m jealous, how I’d love a first snow! I think it will probably be a long time before that happens. Enjoy snow angels and snowmen!!
Aaaahhhhhhh I do remember, such sweet memories. I noticed one of your little guys has a LL Bean jacket on, I live close to LL Beans, it is always fun to go shopping there late at night when everyone else is asleep.
I can’t wait for snow. It’s hit or miss here though. Looks like everyone had a great time!
Bee-yoo-tiful! Our children are wishing for snow too, but it could be January before it decides to come. Our coat closet drives me crazy, just when I think we might as well put the heavy coats away, it does get cold.
It does look lovely.
Picture are so good, we had our first snow here in PA this past Sunday and it was so pretty, now it is raining out, but not as cold, i wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving Day
GOD BLESS,
SANDY
What a blessing to be together. We’ve had crazy weather…today the high is 80. Tomorrow, the high is supposed to be 48. Crazy weather!!!
wow….that’s awesome!! Maybe….just maybe….we might get some this year….please, please, just a little….=) every now and then it does decide to snow here in the south, and it’s been awhile, so this is the year! ha
Great pictures of the snow! I guess I should take some pictures of our snow- we have quite a bit already.
We don’t often get snow down here, but I love seeing pictures. Our rare snow days are a special treat, I bet the first one of the season feels that same way. Have a blessed Thanksgiving, if we don’t pass in Xanga again before Thursday.
Nice post — sounds like you’re having a good day!
Loving this post…..Dreamy…good word…describes it perfectly.Hope you enjoy an especially wonderful Thanksgiving, Shanda.xo
Ahhh, how lovely! So fun in the snow and cosy home right there…..I think that makes snow even more fun…knowing the warmth to come. I am wearing my blue jacket with embroidered snowmen and flakes today…as close as I’ll come to snow …we just have grey fog. It is a cosy feeling too. Last night my husband said that the sound of the fog horn (the harbor is down the hill) was as comforting as the train whistle ( we hear that too down in the valley).
Your last post reminds me of many times…why do boys like to paint themselves ? Also thought of a soccer game we went to when my older boys were teens ….another boy on their teem was very puzzled…why is your little brother dressed like an indian? Another boy said….” because he is 8 years old!!” No other explaination needed. I am glad they can have their imaginations. blessings, Jenny
So Cool. Any snow we’ve gotten has been gone by the end of the day. I’ve been looking forward to it. I love the photo’s and the thoughts. Its nice to reminisce about our youth sometimes. We had such fun times up on the hill and Grandma and Grandpa were so kind to let us hike and play on on their land as if it were our own. Love, Lish
LOVED this post! the pretty pictures, the soft music playing… it’s like flipping through a great magazine!!thanks for creating such a nice spot. i love the spirit here. π
Beautiful first snow pictures. π What are the berries in the picture? My kids would love to see snow now. Great pictures. I love the way everything sounds quiet and “soft” when it snows. Happy Thanksgiving!Melody
Your post made me wish for snow! It might snow tomorrow here. It was over 70 earlier today and the temp. has dropped to the 40’s. Crazy Kansas weather.
Gee’s face cracks me up in the snow angel picture!
Yes I remember!!! Snow ice cream, and snow forts, and grocery shopping bags lining my boots to make them more water proof, and red noses and sitting in front of the heater vent to get warm after!
Looks like the kids had a great time..are you ready for Thanksgiving?
I have always loved snow, and still do! Very nice post. π
Your photographs are beautiful. I too, like the one with the red berries but my favorite is the one right above that one. Our fall wasn’t very pretty here this year, so our first snowfall pictures won’t be near as lovely as yours!
I LOVE those four pictures right above the berry pic! Wow, it has snowed here only twice in my lifetime, and then only a thin layer. I would love to experience more snow like that! The kids look like they are having so much fun.
Absolutely breathtaking photos!!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING to your beautiful family!
That is great. Right before Thanksgiving. Brandon says to tell Jacob hello! He misses him. I am glad your father in law is doing better. We are still praying for your family. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
What an amazing blog, I love the photo’s. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
I remeber when I used to look foward to snow it doesnt seem the same though as you get older. I hope it snows a lot though this year
Way to go Chambray7! We could use a little here! Moving south after many years in the north, I miss SEEING snow, but don’t miss the cold and ice!
Those were such great pictures! I loved the one with snow falling. Enjoy your site.
We had snow today, too : ) (Iowa) Your photographs are BREATHTAKING! Have a blessed Thanksgiving Day!
Beautiful! Very beautiful house too…love it.
Oh the magic of a snowfall, especially the first of the season! How I love it! π May we always see things with the wonder of a child. (Love the snow on the berries!)
