 Happy Birthday, Grace

As most of you know by now, Rich and I had two boys (14 months apart) before we had Grace.  She was born in the early hours of the morning,  and in my arms was placed a new little wonder–the wonder of a daughter.  I was so thankful and excited to have her.  What fun it was to have pink things, girly things!

Eight years have gone by and our family now has a total of 4 boys. . . and Grace. . .our “one and only” girl, is sandwiched in the middle of them.

Grace made a special request this year for an “American Girl” Horse.  She is so interested in horses lately.  We loved watching her open her gift this morning (it was a big box, so exciting!) and it is obvious that now she has a new friend.  Penny the horse is not an “it”, She is a She. . .and to Grace, she is as real as can be.

In so many ways she has added joy to my life.

Oh, I am so thankful for her.

Hush-a-bye, don’t you cry,
Go to sleepy little baby.
When you wake, you shall have,
All the pretty little horses.

Black and bay, dapple and grey,
Coach and six little horses,
Hush-a-bye, don’t you cry,
Go to sleepy little baby.
Hush-a-bye, don’t you cry,
Go to sleepy little baby,
When you wake, you shall have,
All the pretty little horses.

  1. Grace looks so pleased! Does every little girl go through a horse thing? Did you? I remember reading all the Walter Farley books about the black stallion. Has Grace read any of those? I’ll bet she would love them.

  2. Happy Birthday Grace!  It looks like your day was extra special and I’m so glad you got your horse!  I love horses too and maybe sometime when you come home you can come over to my house and ride my horse, Lily, who likes to be brushed, fed, and ridden!  Lots of Love, Lish . . . Shan, I love this post and it is so obvious how much you cherish all your children.  You are such a great mom. Love, Lish

  3. what a sweet looking little girly! love that first shot of her hugging her horse.. so precious. laughed out loud at your knitting post~ been there, done that. and am DONE doing that! and your little guy w/ the paint… oh those mommyhood moments when you don’t know whether to laugh or cry. sounds like you laughed! and even found things to be grateful for! how awesome are you!! :)happy new week to ya~

  4. Happy, happy birthday, Grace! I hope your day was super special! You are such a sweetheart and a blessing to your mommy and daddy! You are such a pretty little girl and your horse is really pretty too! Have fun with Penny!!!!

  5. Every parent needs a daughter!  (However, some – like my sister – don’t get them until they get daughters-in-love! …and that after six boys!)
What a sweet daughter and how pleased she looks with her beloved Penny!

  6. Happy Birthday Grace!!! I am excited for her, receiving that horse! I dreamed about horses when I was younger (still do!) and would have enjoyed playing with my American Girl Doll, Samantha, and a horse like that. The chocolate cake looks YUMMY!!! I am assuming that you made it yourself ~ impressive!

  7. Happy Birthday to Grace as well….showed my eight yr old daughter the horse pictures, and I think she was a wee bit jealous of that sweet horse….she likes them too….=)
