Can you believe it’s November 1st?

(in the van on the way to NY on Saturday morning using my self timer.  The kids blocked their faces from the photo with a pillow.  Not by my request–)

I want to try to be focused on GRATITUDE this month especially, since now it is November and Thanksgiving is in 22 days!  Not that we aren’t thankful the whole year through but a month that has “Thanksgiving” in it is a perfect excuse to be more so.

On Sunday morning (before we went to church), Grace took these photos of me and Rich (or is it Rich and I or Rich and me? I better figure that out once and for all. . .) anyway. . .I thought they turned out so sweet!  We stayed in a Hampton Inn and in the morning we had some nice filtered sun coming through the big window in our room.  Grace stood on the heater-thing in front of the window and we sat on the coffee table facing the window (and Grace).  See how our eye color really popped?  (should “eye” and “popped” ever be in the same sentence?–sorry, I grew up with 3 brothers–)

On the first day of November I am thankful

for MY HUSBAND and MARRIAGE.

It’s kind of personal to tell you this. . .but, I want this information in this post because I think it’s really sweet and I wouldn’t mind reading it on your site so here it goes. .

Rich has been calling me “Beautiful Thing” lately.  For instance, he just left for work and he gave me a kiss and said, “Goodbye Beautiful Thing”. . . . .  Isn’t that romantic?

I’m also really thankful for the beautiful sunrise I am seeing as I sit here at my desk.  The sky is orange!  The bright orange clouds look like streaks across the sky and then there is a layer of dark gray clouds that are quickly passing over the orange ones.  Quite distracting.

  1. Awww ~ how sweet! Good men of God are such blessings; (and unforunately rare now as well) and it so fitting to thank the Lord for them! I love you first post on gratitude. 🙂

  2. I love the pictures!  I think it is funny about the kids covering thier heads.  (Still a little sad to have missed you with this trip.)  But I hopefully will get to see you on thenext one.
    Love You! – Colleen

  3. You’re a lovely couple.  BTW, it is “Rich and me” in that sentence.  How you figure that out is take out the first part of the subject, in this case “Rich and” and see if it sounds right….for example:  Grace took these photos of I?  Grace took these photos of me?  The 2nd one of course, so when you replace the “Rich and”, it must go before you b/c our language is just SO polite.  Grace took these photos of Rich and me.  That was the best way I explain it (even to my students), so I hope I’ve settled the battle in your mind!  🙂  Also, your eyes do POP in that picture, and it is just beautiful.  Your husband is romantic–what a treasure!

  4. I was going to say just what Geidlbots said about “Rich and me” ~ the other person/s first ~ always ~ and asking the question without them to see which is correct ~
Love the “beautiful thing” ~so sweet ~

  5. How sweet.  “Goodbye beautiful thing”…I LOVE it!  I think married people should be mushy (not gross but mushy) it is sweet and fun the way marriage should be!
Thanks for the reminder.  I too am so thankful for my marriage and my wonderful husband.  I know there are many who do not have a godly man to call their husband, it is a gift.
Have a wonderful day my friend,
    ~Amy

  6. Romantic indeed.  I suppose here is an appropriate spot to tell you what my husband calls me.  We’ve been married 30 years now and for about 20 of them he has called me “Grandma.”  He said that is so looking forward to growing old with me that it was the most endearing term he could think of.  Precious….to me.

  7. uh huh!!!!!  That’s romantic :o) You didn’t say your eyes popped……you said your eye COLOR popped, so that’s OK :o)   With such a romantic husband, it must be hard not to spend all of your time dreaming……………

  8. Well you are!!! You both are! I have a little chalk board up in my kitchen where I have written a quote from George Muller.  “Cultivate Obedience and Gratitude”. Since writing that life has gotten really challenging. God wants obedience and gratitude even when it is hard. I think I will go erase it and just write. “Be Thankful!” I am thankful (very!!) for my darling husband, who is one beautiful thing himself. Love and happy blessings, m in sc

  9. Thanks for the reminder to be thankful… about everything! :)I so wanted to answer that grammar question, but someone got to it first. 🙂 Oh, and the reason you use me is because it is the object of the preposition so you have to use the objective pronoun. You and Rich are so sweet together.

  10. How romantic and sweet! I have started a Gratitude Journal and I am writing down things I am grateful for, each day before I lay my head down to sleep. God has truly blessed us with so many things and we should be grateful each and everyday. You and Rich are adorable together and I am so happy for you that you have a wondeful relationship with Rich and that you have a healthy and loving family. -Tara

  11. Such sweet pictures and what a wonderful couple! How lovely to be called “beautiful thing”, one of those special things the kids will remember their whole lives. I still remember things like that, that my parents called each other, it’s a terrific image of marriage for any child to observe. Have a wonderful day and keep enjoying those sunrises.

  12. What a wonderful idea …a thankful month!  You two are beautiful!  That is such a gift for your children….our whole family reads your blog because we are blessed by all you say and your beautiful pictures.  I told my hubby that I always get teary reading your posts….I am touched My husband  has been so sweet lately in complimenting me on what I have done or how I look and I said how incredibly encouraging he is.  I wondered why….he said, “I don’t know, I am just so thankful!”  Maybe we all need to be thankful.
another thought….the world needs that blessed picture of marriage.  We were shocked to hear that people actually make negative remarks to our newly wed children about marriage.  Dan and Heidi had someone say ” well of course you are happy now….just wait a few years.”  Dan responded that they should look at his parents!  I am blessed he sees that in our marriage.
On your last couple posts:  Have you seen the movie about Martin Luther?  I think it is just called Luther.  We found it very moving. Your Grandmother is a dear.  Thank you for sharing that.  I treasure my pictures, dishes, and even furniture that has been passed down.  And last, thank you for your quotes and poems….I used the poem “The Missionary” in my homeschool talk the other night to our support group.  They were encouraged!   blessings, Jenny

  15. “Beautiful Thing”…that is so romantic! The pictures are great! How special that your daughter took them as well. I think of what a great memory that will be for her! My kids love taking pictures of Jason and I together and they always want us kissing or something! I think it gives them such a security!! That sunrise! WoW! Beautiful!
