We went to public school when I was growing up. . . .and, being the oldest of five, I remember how sad my mom used to be when a younger sibling entered Kindergarten. I didn’t understand it then, but I think I do now, because I feel so attached to my little ones. They are my little buddies. I’m their best friend, the one they want to be near all day long. And, truth be told, I very much like them around me, too. I feel better when they are near. My mom must have felt that same way. I especially remember how my little brother, Nathan, used to watch for birds with her.
Anyway, this afternoon I was outside with little C. I just meant to go around the yard with him, but we got further and further off the beaten trail. I got a little ahead of Caleb, and walked through some tall grass and shrubs to the stream.
Look who didn’t want to be left behind:
My little Pooh!
So we sat awhile and looked at the stream together.
I talked to him and he leaned on me. I rubbed his warm little head and held out my camera to try to capture the moment.
My heart melts when I see that little face! I kiss those little lips and those velvet cheeks every day, lots and lots.

Oops, over he goes!
Going back home

That sweet little face! What a heart breaker! I always enjoy your pictures.
I don’t even want to think of my little man going away to school! I will be a wreck! I may have to keep adding to the family so I will always have one home! LOL
awww…keep kissin that sweet little head as long as you can! My baby will be 6 in January, and isn’t into snugglin with mom to much anymore. I tried to get him to snuggle with me wrapped in a blanket this morning, but it didn’t last long…he doesn’t like to be confined for very long~
Oh what blessings we have in our children!!
Awwww…..Sam crawled in bed with me this morning. Even though he wouldn’t be still, it was nice to have his cozy little fleece-jammied body next to mine. They were driving me crazy in the house this morning–lots of whining, crying, and bad attitudes, so we went to the fabric store and then to the choo-choo store (aka Barnes and Noble). We spent a better part of the afternoon outside. I picked up pecans while he pulled grass and crumbled leaves (usually on Maryn’s head). She tried to help me pick up nuts, but she kept wanting to pull them OUT instead of put them IN the bag. π
Sweet post, Shan!
Such a sweet post Shan. All of your children are so precious–all gifts of God. What a loving and caring Mom you are to them.
Oh that little sad face just breaks my heart. My kids little faces always grab my heart. You’re such a great Mom, keep up the good works and kissing those velvet cheeks. My kids cheeks can get chapped I kiss them so much poor things!
What a little cutie pie! :O) Again, I love all the pictures!

Oh his sad face makes me just want to cry. Poor guy… just wanted to be with his mama. I’m glad you got to spend some special time with him. He’s such a cutie!
I’m sending my ole kisses to those velvety cheeks from a far and wishing I could kiss the sweet chubby cheeks of my little granddarlings. What a dear sweet post as always. Shan, you have a whole bunch of mushy ladies loving your family. Oh how the world knows nothing of this kind of great grace to God’s own. blessings and love, m in sc
My own “baby” (14 years old) has been away on a school trip for the week — he returns home tonight and I can hardly wait to hug him — even if it embarrasses him. I told my husband last night that when our boys move out of the house, I will grieve, I am sure. They grow so quickly – keep capturing those beautiful faces, those moments you wish you could hold forever! Here are some of mine: by llhagberg

More precious pictures!
Precious!!! That fourth picture is so beautiful.
so precious! have you ever thought about making your blog into a book (just for your family, not like to publish) I was just thinking as I was reading your posts how fabulous it would be to have a book of your blog entries in your family. They are always so sweet and heartfelt. I know that there are websites out there that do it!
Poor little pooh bear, oh that pic of him crying just breaks my heart! I can’t stand to hear a baby or child cry even in the store! : (
But it looks like the little fella was comforted and got happy quickly. : )
All very cute pics, they all tell a story in themselves. Blessings! ~Amelia
That little picture of him crying is so heartbreaking! I’m glad you were able to soothe his troubles. π Great pictures!
How blessed we are to be moms and to be able to spend such sweet time with our kids. Enjoy the rest of your day. -Tara
Thank you for being the kind of mom who knows how to cherish.
As usual, gorgeous pictures! Such a pleasant, peaceful place is your blog. **sigh**
I agree with brezomayo on the book idea. It would be a shame for all your lovely posts to be lost someday. They will be so special to your children someday.
reminds me of my fourth boy~ π he hates being left out, or apart from the rest! just so sad ! precious moments and love how you captured it~
