pink and green

Wow, there are some really good comments left on my “solitude” blog.  Please go through and read them if you haven’t done so already.  Very good stuff there–thanks everyone!  I was truly inspired by all of you!

I still have some vacation highlights.  Today I want to share some pictures that I took of a really great shop that my mom and I went to in Strasburg, PA.  It was the perfect place to browse.

This is the front of the shop.  Love at first sight!

It was a feast for the eyes as there were lovely things to see everywhere.

sneakers laced with ribbon

chandeliers (by the way, the “chande” in chandeliers is exactly how you pronounce my name–Shanda–)

hats

handmade handbags

vintage dishes

handmade baby items like changing pads

Here I am, using a mirror to take my own picture.  Notice the belts, nail polish, powders.  They also had some cute skirts and tops.  I kept going back to the same awesome skirt but could not afford it.

The jewelry was 1920’s and made me drool.

It seemed like pink and green was used everywhere.

I enjoyed looking through their vintage kitchen items.  The green of this cabinet appeals to me.  Notice the wreaths, the linens, the sparkling glass, candles.

I came away with a vintage cherry tablecloth and some cute stationary.  My mom bought me something but I don’t know what it is because she made me go away while she paid for it.  The saleswoman placed our purchases in a brown paper bag with their tag dangling from it and, for an added touch, they tied a small ribbon on the handle and stuffed the bag with tissue paper.

There are a couple old family photographs by the cash register–of 2 little girls–wonder if they were “lulu and tutz”?

I can imagine going back with a girlfriend.  This is the type of shop my husband would tolerate but not understand or appreciate.

  1. Fabulous shop, Shanda….I would love to pour over every inch of the place. Those dishes…? I remember my DH’s grandma, Emma…had those very dishes and were sold at auction. We live in Emma’s house now. When we moved in – 22 years ago – that color green was everywhere! I covered it up then..and now I gravitate toward the green and am slowly bringing it back. Emma would love it!
Can’t wait to see what your mom got for you…at some future time, of course.

  2. I have found stores like that during my lifetime..I still remember many of them vividly, even the ones from my childhood. And now I realize it wasn’t just the things I found in the store, but because Iwas shring the experience with someone I loved

  3. Oooooh, I can tell you would LOVE to shop First Street in MY town :o)    I am so fortunate to live in a quaint little town that has left First Street to be just like it was 100 years ago……It is about 10 blocks long, both sides of the street….with dozens of  wonderful little shops  in the original buildings……….just like the one you have pictured :o)  Usually on weekends it is full of “tourists”, but during the week it is real quiet and sleepy and we locals love to do our browsing then……..my favorite place for a relaxing morning…….

  4. The only thing that would drive my husband crazy about that shop is.He wouldn’t be able to buy me everything I thought was adorable. LOLThere are times when I have got to drag my dh out of stores like this. This store is wonderful. Makes me want to go down town to our antique stores and look around.

  5. The shop looks like it was a lot of fun, we were just down to Lancaster today but did not get to Strasburg you will always have great memories of this day with your mom GOD BLESS

  6. “Oh” she replied drooling, “that was delightful”.  Do they still have the old railroad there?  We used to live in Ephrata! I miss that sweet part of the country. Love you!

  7. I am guessing it the was the skirt!
The shop looks soooooooooooooo cool, it felt like I was looking through a magazine when I was looking at these pictures!  I could spend all day there I am sure!
