good friends

Thought I would share a few pictures that I took last night at our closing night of VBS.

These first pictures are of my friend Cathi, wife of Josh and mom of 2 gorgeous little girls.  We’ve been friends for a few years now.  We go to the same church and share a common love of the written word. . . . .she’s my loyal xanga pal, too.

Cathi is so sweet and I love sitting right next to her in choir (we both sing alto).   We’ve had lots of fun together and our friendship has also been made sweeter by tough times–we’ve been there for each other during church turmoil and personal loss.  There’s just something about tears that cement a relationship.

I remember the first time I really noticed her, all absorbed in her firstborn baby girl.  And now here she is with her second.

Somehow I just loved the look of black and white for these pictures:

Frankly, I can’t decide who’s cuter–mom or baby!

These next pictures are of my friend Karen with her son, Leo.  Leo and my David are good friends and they remind me of each other–especially because of their many facial expressions.

Karen is a “deep thinking” friend.  She grew up reading C.S. Lewis and would love to have her own “inkling” club.  As soon as we get together we dive right into deep conversations about life and death. . . . . and other important matters.

I guess I should explain why New Englanders are wearing cowboy hats.  It’s because our VBS theme for this year was “Calvary Junction”.

One of God’s beautiful blessings—friendship!

  1. These are beautiful pictures of friends.  Friends are beautiful!  I am thankful for my church family/friends…they are most precious to me.  By the way, I sing alto in our church choir as well.

  2. Friendships are to be treasured. I have several friends in America that I see very rarely. We do keep in touch with e-mail, though. When I am with them, it’s like we never were apart. I also feel a bit sad for the people who I enjoyed friendship with when we lived in America, but who have stopped writing. I guess they just weren’t forever friends. I have learned that some people are only in our lives for a season.

  3. What a sweet tribute to your friends. Cathi looks so cute, I will have to tell her that. Friends are wonderful and true blessings from the Lord. You are a treasured friend to me. Looking forward to getting back from my trip and telling you all about it. 🙂 Have a great weekend.

  4. It is good to have such great friends. How special, and they are both so beautiful!
I tend to lurk on your blog more than post, but I always enjoy your pictures and the way you put them together. (In fact I might even be a little jealous!) 🙂

  5. A sweet post to some sweet people.  They look like they would be great friends to have, glad you found them~

  6. I’m glad you’ve got wonderful friends……..I wonder why it is that in these days of “living color” many of us think that a black and white picture is the best.  I can remember when a color photo almost seemed like a miracle!  But now I would choose B&W any ol’ day :o)

  7. Hi Shanda!  I’m sorry I haven’t been by sooner, but I’ve had my son home for a visit, and things have been non-stop!  I was over on Cathi’s site, and saw your comment, and wanted to come say hi, and see your pictures!  I love the look of black and white as well!  And as Gwen said above, I, too would choose a B&W over color any day!  ~Friendship is a gift from above!  I’ve had only a few real close friendships in my life…they all seem to move away and loose touch.  You are blessed to have these two in your life!  Thank you for sharing one of God’s beautiful blessings….Friendship! In Him,~Deborah <><

  8. Did you have to make me cry?? You are incredibly sweet. I absolutely love the pictures. You are such a wonderful friend to have. I said this on Facebook, too, and I’ll say it here. My baby looks WAAAAY too big. Make her stop! The pictures of Karen and Leo crack me up. That is the difference between having girls and boys. 🙂

  9. Why are black and white photos so flattering? I just found some pics of my mom helping me get dressed for my wedding AND some of my parents together at my wedding. The pictures look classic AND we all look better than we do in colored photos!
