“still it feels brand-new”

I don’t have enough pictures on my blog of my husband.  Our relationship is so special and I am so very thankful for him.  He’s a godly man, loving husband, and a wonderful Dad to our 5 children.  He is #1 in my life (after my relationship with God, of course)

Here are some pictures that were taken today (after the rain stopped):

As I look at these pictures, I am remembering a song that I heard 11 years ago, when Rich and I were first married.  I don’t have the recording anymore and haven’t heard it in about 9-ish years, but the words remain in my heart as “our song”.  It is a soft, gently sung song, by Clint Black, he wrote it for his wife, and he played only the guitar as he performed it.  I love the words (I just looked them up on the internet and copied and pasted them here):

“It’s Something That We Do”–song lyrics

I remember well the day we wed
I can see that picture in my head
I still believe the words we said
Forever will ring true
Love is certain, love is kind
Love is yours and love is mine
But it isn’t something that we find
It’s something that we do
It’s holding tight, lettin’ go
It’s flying high and laying low
Let your strongest feelings show
And your weakness, too
It’s a little and a lot to ask
An endless and a welcome task
Love isn’t something that we have
It’s something that we do
We help to make each other all that we can be
Though we can find our strength and inspiration independently
The way we work together is what sets our love apart
So closely that you can’t tell where I end and where you start
It gives me heart remembering how
We started with a simple vow
There’s so much to look back on now
Still it feels brand-new
We’re on a road that has no end
And each day we begin again
Love’s not just something that we’re in
It’s something that we do
We help to make each other all that we can be
Though we can find our strength and inspiration independently
The way we work together is what sets our love apart
So closely that you can’t tell where I end and where you start
Love is wide, love is long
Love is deep and love is strong
Love is why I love this song
And I hope you love it too
I remember well the day we wed
I can see that picture in my head
Love isn’t just those words we said
It’s something that we do
There’s no request too big or small
We give ourselves, we give our all
Love isn’t someplace that we fall
It’s something that we do

Ethan took the photos of us (the little guy with the hole in his pants and dirty bare feet!) and Jake took the last one.  I love my family so much. . . . .

  1. Love Love Love your pics! It is so special to see a husband and wife together, and happy just as the Lord intended. You both look so cute together. I need to put some more pics of my  husband on my blog too. Did you move the hammock?

  2. Sweet, sweet pictures that I am sure you will treasure many years to come. I can see you two now,  enjoying coffee on the porch (your 80ish), thumbing through the photo album and sharing memories of this day.

  3. Great pics Shanda. It’s so wonderful to see how much in love you two are.. and for your kids to see how marriage should be…it’s not always that wonderful, but when you love each other you don’t give up!!!! Too many couple’s forget that these days. My husband and I are renewing our wedding vows next saturday… I am so excited it has come up so quickly I started planning it last year and it’s here all ready. Great post about your husband. Blessings, Vonda

  4. You guys are so homey.  I want to come curl up on your couch and watch a movie with all of you!  ๐Ÿ™‚  Question: what color are your eyes?  In some posts they look brown, but in the peony one they looked blue???

  5. I have always admired your relationship with your husband, children, friends and God you are such a wonderful person!! You both are blessed to have each other you are a perfect pair. Remember I saw Jesus in you in all areas in your life and that is why God used you to bring me to him. XOXOX

  6. Wiping tears from my eyes…aside from God, there is no greater gift you can give your children than to love their father, and for them to SEE that love. The tender touch, the kiss on the neck, etc.  I love the song, always have, and it really fits the two of you. Beautiful photos.

  7. I love this post Shan!  I love the song you remembered too.  I love how you aren’t holding back from being cuddely and affectionate with Rich in front of the kids.   Keep on showing your affection for your husband so that your kids can see what it is like to really LOVE your spouse and keep them as #1 in their lives after God.  Thank you for sharing!

  8. SHANDA!!! You look so so cool, you look perfect in the headband and bright pink shirt and then the clash of very cool yellow on your feet. Very very cool Shanda Banda!  The sedond picure is the one I would frame if I were you, love the pose, the color, all of it!
